Global seeks upset over crack HK side Wednesday night

By Cedelf P. Tupas

HONG KONG—Riding high on a three-match winning streak in all competitions, United Football League champion Global seeks a king-size upset against Hong Kong powerhouse South China Wednesday night in their AFC Cup Group G clash here.
Running third with four points from four matches, the Filipino side is hard-pressed to pick up points in the 8 p.m. showdown at Mongkok Stadium.
Level on points but behind on goal difference to Malaysia’s Pahang, coach Leigh Manson’s charges can put themselves in a good position to qualify for the next round if they get at least a draw against a team that beat them, 6-1, two months ago at Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila.
“I think we need to take something out of this game with one or three points to make the final group game [against Pahang] a winner-take-all game,” said Manson.
South China had clinched a knockout stage spot after winning all its four games so far.
Global stunned Ceres, 2-0, in the United Football League, before nailing a historic 4-1 win over Burma’s (Myanmar) Yadanarbon two weeks ago at Philippine Stadium.
