MANILA--Ceres quickly bounced back from a stinging defeat to Global with a 4-0 rout of Socceroo in a Tuesday night UFL battle at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Three nights after the loss, Ceres appeared to be heading to the wrong side of a Socceroo upset as the latter, currently in ninth place, held the league leader scoreless for almost the entire first half.
Ceres finally got on the board when Orman Okunaiya scored with just a minute left before halftime.
A penalty goal by Patrick Reichelt two minutes into the second half started the late onslaught for Ceres that even saw seldom-used Dapal Unabia getting a goal in the 69th minute.
Nate Burkey sealed the win for Ceres with another spot kick goal in the 83rd minute.
Ceres, which gave some of its stars a rest on Tuesday, finished the first round with 24 points, three points clear of Stallion and five points ahead of defending champion Global in the race for number one.
