PFF president fears sponsors' pullout after unkind SEAG cut for U-23 Azkals

THE Philippine Football Federation (PFF) fears it will lose some of its private-sector sponsors after the national Under-23 men’s team failed to get the green light from the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) in its bid to represent the country in the upcoming Southeast Asian Games.
Despite its willingness to spend for the whole trip of both the men’s team as well as the women’s team – which made the SEA Games cut, the PFF’s request was turned down by the POC which cited the much-criticized criteria that the U-23 Azkals are not gold-medal contenders in the Myanmar Games.
“Instead of giving incentives to associations that have sponsors, I think it’s a 'decentive,'" PFF president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said.
The POC, according to Araneta, explained that it was just trying to be fair to other national sports associations that have no sponsors to fund their team's trips.
But in so doing, the POC has done a disservice to NSAs which have the funds to send their teams to Myanmar, Araneta pointed out.
“Sabi nila kawawa naman daw yung (NSAs na) walang sponsors. Ang mangyayari ngayon, kawawa na rin kami kasi we will lose, for sure, some of our sponsors like Suzuki,” Araneta said.
The Japanese car brand has bankrolled the last two editions of PFF’s national U-23 tournament, spending P11 million, according to Araneta, in the last staging alone earlier this year.
“I won’t be surprised if they won’t sponsor us anymore. Kasi bakit pa? Wala namang incentive to put up a team for the Under-23, so why put up a tournament for the Under-23?”
“If that’s the sports officials’ intention — to even the playing field — then they have been successful in achieving this,” Araneta added sarcastically.
Araneta said one of the PFF’s sponsors was, in fact, SEA Games host Myanmar which offered to shoulder the Philippine team's expenses if it won’t get any funding from the country.
The PFF's bid to send a team to the SEA Games, according to Araneta, was even backed by Asean Football Federation president Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah of Malaysia who wrote a letter earlier this month to POC president Peping Cojuangco to appeal the national side’s inclusion in Myanmar.
Araneta said the Sultan was instrumental in the AFF’s US$100,000 donation to the victims of Typhoon Pablo last February.
“Mabuti pa nga sila na taga-labas nakakaintindi.”

  1. Seriously, people within the PFF just get more retarded by the day!!!!! Bunch of dumb fucks!!

They talk as if the SEA Games is the be-all and end-all of the U-23's and then talk about how sponsors could start pulling out if they don't join the SEA Games. Idiots!!! It's their lack of activity and initiative in trying to organize friendlies and/or trying find or organize other tournaments for the U-23's is to blame!!

The U-21's and U-22's from 2012 both had disastrous campaigns and there were players in both who would have been eligible for SEA Games and they waited until late May 2013 to appoint a coach and start any sort of preparations. And all they had to show for it was one friendly where they lost!!! Then they expect to be part of the SEA Games where it isn't even a football specific event?!?! Retards!!!

Obviously hindi madali!! But if the Palami or whoever else in the PFF are capable of organizing friendlies left, right and center for the senior NT, surely kaya nila mag organize ng friendlies para sa U-23's!! Problema, they're not taking the initiative! Palami, the head of the national teams committee is too busy playing owner of the senior NT and other teams like the U-23's get neglected!

    5. I dont think ur one to talk of lack of initiative for Mr. Dan Palami. For you info, kung hindi dahil sa initiative ni Dan Palami to manage the Azkals 3 yrs ago hindi sana ganito ang football ngayon sa Ph!
And back to organizing friendlies for the u23, wag limutin mahal ang paghost, kaya nga walang masyadong firendlies tayo makikita for under youth teams.
      Isipisip din pagminsan.

"Isipisip din pagminsan" You're one to talk! Palami has since become the HEAD of the NATIONAL TEAMS COMMITTEE. So it is his job to continue making initiatives!! Also, any sort of friendlies don't necessarily have to be against other U23 national teams!! Last year, for the U21's, Fatlami himself said he would tour them around Cebu, Iloilo and other places around the country to play senior teams after the Bolkiah Cup to give them more experience. That never happened!! He also can't seem to shut his mouth about how the of the U23's is already to get gold in the SEA Games, yet there's been very little preparation. So it proves that people like Palami are all talk!! What's even worse, people like you pretty much bow down to him and end up sucking his dick!!

  2. Maybe POC knew that the U23 lineup are not actually the PFF-Suzuki U23 Champions! ha ha ha
Hindi ba Ceres-La Salle ang nanalo sa 2012 and 2013? eh bakit iba ang mga pangalan na nasa lineup. LOL

  4. U14, U16 and U19 are all performing sub par this year in the AFF and AFC tournaments , that's why the POC realized that U23 will also fail in their quest come SEA Games. PFF din kasi ang may kasalanan kasi kulang talaga sa preparation and their players are always different every year and the coaches are being replaced time and tiime again. The only remaining person since day one is always the manager at hindi naman sya maglalaro..
