  2. I am really not impressed. Even with better players at his disposal, Coach Weiss after nearly a year and a half, has only been able to improve our rankings by 1 since December of 2010. A better coach would have achieved a lot more.

    1. first: they were not able to field always the best line up. Second: they mostly played friendly matches were they get a few points only. Third: other teams make also points. Fourth: other SEA teams are already behind us (even their NT might be better than ours). Fifth: this FIFA ranking stuff says nothing about the real strength of a NT. It's a nice toy nothing more. Sixth: why always is coach Weiss the guilty one? Face it, we don't have that great players, most of them are just mediocre or maybe below (with some exceptions of course)...you can't make a one legged high jumper reaching the gold medal.

  3. To the Anonymous writer of Apr 6 2012, 0833AM:

If you think you can do a better job, contact Dan Palami and apply for the job. I can sense that you have "Talanka" genes in your blood. I suggest you conduct a DNA check to verify that. If I'm wrong, inform Dan Palami that you don't belong to the "Talanka" breed. Do yourself a favor, include that piece of information on your resume.

By the way, when you offer a critique, never miss the opportunity to offer a valid advise on how to get things better. It will only improve your breeding.

Hahaha!!! That's the problem with people like you. You love hyping things to no end!! 'Best in Asia'. Come on!! And then when someone tries to bring people like you back down to earth or has a little bit criticism about certain things, they're the ones being thought of as nanlalait or they're the bad guys or supposedly have crab mentality. It's ridiculous!

    4. look who's talking, ganyan ka na nga dahil guilty ka being "CRAB MAN" HAHAHHAHAHAHAHA...

its my opinion, proud to our AZKALS...not like you...insecure...hehehehe...

    5. Nothing wrong with voicing your opinion but if you do say so. Don't try to pass opinions off as fact especially when its clear as day that what you've stated not fact!

That's the problem with imbeciles like you. You voice your opinion but you do so like its fact. And then when someone else has a different opinion or criticizes your opinion or criticizes other things, you end up making those people seem like they're the bad guys or like in this case branding them with crab mentality. Just shows how smart you and people like you really are. But if you want to go around thinking you're some know-it-all and have got everything figured out... go ahead, be some deluded dumb ass for all I care... its your life anyway! Just don't be some twat bashing others for having their own opinion especially if its against yours!!!

  4. Its just an ASSUMPTION that Weiss could've done more with the lineup he has. Its not FACT.

Give credit where credit is due, and that is the Philippines has had its best finish ever in the AFC Challenge Cup.

    1. Well that's the problem! For a lot of Filipinos, when they assume, they pass they're assumptions off as fact. And when they make comments about certain issues, its all out of line!

    2. Actually at the start of Coach Weiss'es tenure, Dan Palami gave him the objective of reaching at least the 120's in the FIFA rankings in the short term and possibly break the 100's in the long term. Yet throughout his tenure until the Challenge Cup, our rankings went down from the high in 12/10. He was provided with better players and resources to hold training camps. Despite his all complaints he actually had more time training his players than most national coaches in Europe, who have an even harder time getting their players released from their clubs. I don't even see him at the UFL, scouting for potential national players in the Philippines. He claims to prefer an offensive possession style system, yet even during the Challenge Cup we lost the possession battle most of the time. Most of all the other coaches at the Challenge Cup, pointed out the greatest weakness of our team, which has been a recurring theme throughout Coach Weiss'es tenure, the lack of defensive organization. The Tajikistan coach even described our defence as unsophisticated while at the same time describing our attack as dangerous. If we want to reach the next level, we need to improve on this. Having said all that, I would have to say that Coach Weiss has learned a thing or two along the way. What works in the youth ranks(where he got most of his experience as head coach), where you ask your players to push forward all the time, without regards to defensive organization, does not work at senior international level, where opposing defenses are too organized for that system to work. Ever since the Dubai camp, he has somewhat modified this system, apparently after receiving some advice from our European based players. For that he should be commended.

  5. Here is an interview on SPOX in 1/12, the German magazine that placed the ad for Philippine national team coach, to which Coach Weiss applied and was subsequently hired where he tried to explain why our rankings went down.

    Translated)
The first year after the action SPOX
Exactly twelve months, the German Michael White was coach of the Philippines, after being on the unique job ad's dressing SPOX was attentive and had applied. The beginning of an incredible adventure. The 46-year-old white on historic successes, chaos and David Beckham.

SPOX: Michael White, you got exactly one year ago was chosen as the new coach of the Philippine national team. Since then, the Philippines has worsened in the world ranking by six places from 153 to 159th What does that say about your work?

Michael White: Only a little. Unfortunately in the world rankings many factors are ignored, so it's especially for the rear seats only partly representative. 2011, we have set up several historical records: We are first in the second round of World Cup qualifiers and the main round of the Challenge Cup, the Asian Football Championships for developing countries to feed. In addition, we have after six years with the U-23 again made a junior national team on its feet. Previously there was only the A-team - and nothing else. These achievements speak louder than the pure world ranking position.

    _____

As you can see, he is grasping at straws making excuses, when the German press bluntly asked him, why our rankings decreased(which actually was worse than they listed) during his tenure.

    1. How is he making excuses?!? Obviously Weiss isn't perfect but it seems that people like are the ones grasping at straws, trying to find everything and anything, no matter how small, just to be able to have a dig at Weiss.

Too many people place too much emphasis on the world rankings its ridiculous!!

    2. I totally agree about not putting too much emphasis on the FIFA rankings. We should look more at our performance at tournaments, at our style of play, our ability to possess the ball, on our defensive organization or lack thereof, our attention to detail, all of which a coach is responsible for. Eventually all of this will play a part in improving our rankings, but I usually look at those when evaluating at a coaches performance. Rather than look at the rankings, we should evaluate our progress compared initially to our immediate neighbors in the ASEAN region, then later on with the other countries in Asia we are trying to catch up to. One step at a time.

  6. Sometimes, FIFA ranking / statistics can help the team as a psychological strategy to the opponent...even if it can't be realistic

However, what is the important thing that our AZKALS achievement is beyond to our expectations is enough that Coach Weiss is better compare than the previous coach

What Coach Weiss wanted to our NT team, is to have more friendly games exposure, international training camp and make a plan step by step..developed the highest level and the standard of our players local or Fil-Foreign ..

For now, the world saw the rapid progress of Philippine Football considering the impressive performance of the recently concluded AFC Challenge Cup 2012

Perhaps, if the AZKALS / NT continued their great performance hopefully, next World Cup AZKALS can be considered as one of the best in SEA or even in ASIA....

    1. whether you like it or not, ranking helps the team. That how tournament base the groupings. If we are rank high, we are seeded high , that means we are grouped on less stronger team right? Why cant people get that? IT HELPS, PERIOD.

    2. ^^Ya no shit it helps but even then it's barely anything because we're an "emerging nation" that's ranked really low! However, overall that's not the issue here!! The issue is that people use the rankings to make baseless claims about the coach, players or whatever. We've barely gone up in the rankings, so hordes of people start coming out saying "Weiss is shit and hasn't done anything in over year, get rid of him" etc. Ya definitely a load BS.

    3. you are focusing on the rankings and complain why we only improved one rank compared to Dec. 2010? In the new Fifa ranking we are ranked higher than Malaysia, Indonesia and Singapore.....and MAlaysia is SEA champion. What shall they say? They even lost a lot of ranks....and they are for sure not worse than us like you all might know. Problem is that you lose points after a while automatically. And to climb the ranking you need to play vs. higher ranked teams and win...with friendlies like in Challenge cup you can't earn that much points and the one's we defeat like India and Palestine were ranked lower.....so not that much points. ABout how to base the groups: the Fifa ranking is not so much important. We are an emerging country....so we automatically start in the Challenge cup. Important is the result in the Challenge cup to avoid the 1st round with a 2 leg match (like vs. Mongolia)...and we should have achieved to avoid this by our 3rd place in Nepal. And for World Cup qualifier: the important factor is how the performance of the team was in the last WC qualifers....
Agree: we have to work on the defense. I mean with a well organized defense we hadn't lost vs. Turkmenistan...especially if you see how the 2nd goal of them was scored.
And give coach Weiss more time....most players play now in the UFL and our league can't be considered as a top league in the SEA area...too bad that our outstanding players like Phil play there....as I see that they can't improve their great skills in the UFL there's no challenge for them anymore (which players are better than him?)...but that was his decision and it is respetced

  7. We may be ahead of the likes of Malaysia and other SEA nations on the FIFA ranking, but when it comes to homegrown talents and local leagues, we are very far behind. Field a team consisted of homegrown players against Malaysia and the rest of the SEA and we will see that we are still the whipping boys of Asia.

Time will tell if we will eventually catch up with the rest of SEA when it comes to structure and development of local talents. The UFL is a start, but the UFL is weak.

As for Phil Y. Its funny he won a poll on some website against other asian football stars like Kagawa who plays for Borussia Dortmund. Funny because he is nowhere that kind of level and will never be.

    1. I think we will never been able to close the gab between the better NT in the SEA area.....I mean other nations also getting better and better and investing shitloads of money in the infrastructure and development of the sport there (e.g. Thailand)...If I see that we almost have no real football stadium in Metro Manila....that really makes me worry. I guess our little success is just a flash in the pan and will be gone in a few years when recent "stars" finish their career and no more euro based players are available (either not willing anymore to play or no more available due to club duties...like now already)....then we will see if we really have improved (using our local based players)....and I have serious doubts about it.

that is the problem with some of you guys....your talking of manila.....bakit nung indi pa sikat pinapansin ba ng manila ang FOOTBALL???overcrowded na ang manila why not put them on the province or build it somewhere....football development starts in the provinces....high tech na nga ang training quality ng manila pero sa national tournament talo pa rin kalaban ang nakapaang manlalaro ng probinsya.....infrastructure for the football development definitely will not start in manila....huh manila always manila....baka pagsikat uli ng softball at baseball iparenovate nyo na rin ang baseball field ng rizal....funny

on the other hand FIFA ranking can help for the future tournaments.....but it is not necessary mean that it will be the gauge for the team's success....

for coach weiss i can says slowly but surely his system take its place....development can not be seen on one year or two....korea develop there football supremacy in asia quite a long time, in how many decades 2 or 3, defeat after defeat until they reach the semis berth last 2002 world cup.....ang pinoy kasi mahilig maganda ang result kaagad it take time to nurture, develop talents....but yes i agree that one thing i dont like the PFF and Weiss is that the oppurtunity of the locals to be trained by the international coaches is too small but atleast we have now the under 23 tournament, hoping that the failure of last year tournament will not be seen by this year's tournament....

    1. ^^The hell you talking about Manila only and all that?!?! What does that have to do with anything here!

"high tech na nga ang training quality"

Hight tech?!?! What the hell do you think coaching is.... it involves robots!?!? LOL!!!

"one thing i dont like the PFF and Weiss is that the oppurtunity of the locals to be trained by the international coaches is too small"

So what you're saying is that you want to see more locals be included in the national team for sake of having more locals?!? If so that's just stupid to say the least!

eh engot ka pala eh.....bakit may sinabi ba ako na isama ang locals.....huwag ka ngang paranoid.....bakit meron nga bang oppurtunity sa mga locals na mapasama sa TRAINING POOL man lang.kahit mga clinics sa youth program saan meron matinong training schools?? eh d ba sa manila at karatig probinsya indi nga naambunan ang visayas at mindanao.....pero anu banut pa rin ....one exmaple last year under 23 tournament anung nangyari....under 23 tournament was supposed to be a tournament para makaselect ng sa mga papalarin makapasok sa training pool for the sea games....anung nangyari????natalo na nga lahat at anu pa nangyari sa selection at training program nila so anung nangyari sa result ng SEA games........training lang pinaguusapan indi yung makasama sa NT......ipagdikdikan mo yan foreign-base players sayo na lang yan ang sa akin lang ang chance mapasama ang locals sa TRAINING para madevelop lalo kahit sa UFL lang sila maglaro BANUT....asan na yung development sa locals...development ha indi makasama sa NT....uulitin ko training indi makasama sa NT....HI-TECH means more clinical, precise, technical, well educated trainers (exposed from international competition).....yan ha anu naman kaututan yan makabasa ng hitech automatic robotics and hi-end technology na kaagad ang pinaguusapan.....weeeeewwwwwww
