TEAMS from outside Cebu already enlisted in the cash-rich 12th Interclub Invitational Tournament, which is organized by the Cebu Amateur Football Club, from May 19 to 27.
Three teams from Mindanao have confirmed they will join men’s open, which will be played at the University of San Carlos Talamban football field. These are the teams from Pagadian, Zamboanga and Iligan.
All three are first-timers in the tournament, which boosted its cash prize from P40,000 to P100,000 in the men’s open. while from P10,000 to P20,000 in the above-40 division.
Grassroots
A team from Dumaguete Los Amigos returns this year and is fielding a squad in the under-14 and Players 10. The grassroots category champion will receive a medal, trophy and a soccer ball.
The club targets five Cebu teams from outside Cebu and five home teams. But if in case there will be more teams joining because of the increased prizes, they can add two more teams to make it 12 teams in the men’s open.
Priority
In case of giving slots, the priority will be towards teams from outside Cebu since the main goal of the tournament is to invite strong clubs to come over.
Some teams from the United Football League also showed interest, but organizers foresee a conflict of schedule. However, they still hope that one team will be available then to join.
There will be a coaches meeting this Saturday, April 14, while the deadline for the confirmation of teams and payment of registration fee will be on May 5.
