PFF lauds football bill

JOSEF T. RAMOS

PHILIPPINE Football Federation (PFF) President Mariano Araneta thanked the House of Representatives particularly Rep. Rufus Rodriguez of Cagayan de Oro and brother Rep. Maximo Rodriguez of Abante Mindanao party-list for authoring House Bill 4298, ordering the construction of a 75,000-capacity world-class football stadium in the country.

“I’m really happy with that [bill]. It is good for Philippine football. Ever since, we have no football stadium that can hold 70,000 spectators and we can now host international football events if that plan materialized,” said Araneta.

Araneta said the proposed facility must be built in the National Capital Region since it is considered a national stadium. “Right now, they haven’t approached us yet regarding the venue but I’m hoping it will be here in Metro Manila.”

  1. Good. At least it will be in the Captial!

Also, they shouldn't rush to build a 70,000 from the get go. They should start out from about 30,000 or so but design for possible expansions up to 70,000 or so. And since this will be the national stadium, all the more they shouldn't rush to get it build too soon so that they can design it to be an iconic stadium rather than just a cheap looking stadium.

  2. I wonder where they're gonna put it.

There's no space in Metro Manila!
Probably in the outskirts, like Marikina or Paranaque where it's not as congested...and more importantly, where there is still available land.

  3. They can build in reclaimed area of Aseana Business Park or beside SM MOA.

  4. I agree, they should try hard to see if they can build it in the City of Manila. They should get in touch with the big corporations or whoever else owns the land in the reclaimed are to see if they can try build it there. That are would then be and even better integrated entertainment city. One which would include sports since the national stadium would be there.

...just to clarify, City of Manila and Metro Manila are two different things...

  6. ^^Obviously! But I mentioned City of Manila because I truly believe they (the PFF) should try hard to have it built in the City of Manila and not in another city of the NCR. Because the national stadium should be in the capital and just anywhere in the national capital region.

  7. I the reps are programmed to think the bigger the better. But 40K to 50K stadium would be sufficient enough. 40K stadiums are within world cup capacity. Would be easier to achive, fuds-wise. Looking at a business standpoint I think, they could fill-up the stadium
quite easily if it is built on a football crazy region i.e. Negros or Iloilo. IMO

  8. At first, when I heard this news, I feel happy because at last our country can now have world class stadium for football. However, when I have read the comments, i realized your points. I forgot that the bigger the project is, the bigger the money needed and collected. What will happen then..well, we don't know.
