Tough match , 0-0 against them in the last two matches . Another draw ?
ReplyDeleteI predict a close match either 1-0 by the Philippines or 0-0. Weiss is putting up a defensive formation.
ReplyDeleteI think our only hope for a live stream is to find a Myanmar TV station that will show the match...
ReplyDeleteI think thats the only line up we can put there considering the circumstances. But mentally, the team is more mature than before. If they focus on not making mistakes (like the 2nd goal vs. Mongolia), i think we will win this one.
ReplyDeleteKey here is james. he has to hold that midfield spot. Him and Simon...
ReplyDeleteIan? when will the coach give up on this guy.I hate putting players down, but the coach should give other players a shot.
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to be psychic to predict the outcome of this one. Myanmar could only have been given these games through bribery, match-fixing
ReplyDeleteby referees is a growing menace, and no live TV means strange things can happen without outrage until after the final whistle. Que sera sera.
Hehehe..I know a lot of guys are complaining about Araneta. Ive also had some comments on his shot vs goal ratio. But ive tried to be fair because he does hold the ball up reasonably well and contributes to the passing game. In fairness he has been unlucky a few times hitting the bar against Myanmar and the first game against Mongolia (he hit the bar twice there). he also had a good shot denied by an in form keeper against Mongolia. I know, I know..strikers are eventually rated on the goals they score..Iam not saying he is great but when you consider who else has scored for us, the picking are very slim. I wish he would score just once to take some pressure of him. Thing is, its hard for a coach not to look at his experience. he's not lazy and is very familiar with the team. The new guy Espinosa doesnt seem to be match fit based on the coach's assessment. Aldeguer would now seem to be replacing Phil. However, iam not holding my breath. Its gonna be his first game and Iam sure he hasnt played one game against Asian competition (thats another bad thing about the coverage, we dont know if Weiss gave him enough time vs. the Japanese during the warmups). Its interesting to note that Bersales was the one who came in for Phil when he got injured if Iam not mistaken so it wasnt a defensive adjustment. we never got a glimpse of Aldeguer.
ReplyDeleteKagaw says:
ReplyDeleteAraneta on the starting line-up is another PFF political accommodation :(
why not put in Becite or Tuason or Lolo Barsales if Espinosa is not match fit? A 30% Espinosa would be much better than a 100% Araneta.
I think if we score here, its gonna come from midfield or a set piece..1-0?
ReplyDeleteIn as much as I respect everyones opinion here sana responsable naman tayo sa sinasabi natin. Speak your mind but mind what you speak. Yung ilan dito parang hindi na yata tama.
ReplyDeleteIt's too bad hindi natin makita ang debut ni Guirado live. Also sana walang hindrance sa communication ni Guirado di pa naman siya marunong mag-ingles lalo na tagalog. I hope that that they can pull another upset against a hostile and home crowd.
To the anonymous above.
ReplyDeleteWhich one is Guirado? Is he Espinosa Guerridon? or am I confusing him with Angel Aldeguer? Or is he completely another player?
Angel's complete name is Angel Aldeguer Guirado while the other is William Espinosa Guerridon.
ReplyDeleteJay
ReplyDeleteThis is Angel Aldeguer Guirado's first game. He was never in Japan or Mongolia. He was in Manila on trial only for a few days prior to them leaving for japan and then he went back to Spain bec. he was not part of the roster for Mongolia. So this is his first chance to get into a game and unfortunately we won't see him. He has played Attacking midfielder before when he was at Atletico Madrid B in Spain but he usually plays left mid there most of the time. He is supposed to be quick for his size 6'3' and technically sound so he should be a difference maker for our team.
I see. But why didnt they play him in Mongolia and then decide to bring him in to play in Myanmar? Sounds weird but again I wont heap pressure on the guy to deliver. If he is that good than wow, we may have hit the jackpot. But if not, then I stick by my guns that the goal will come from midfield.
ReplyDeleteJay,
ReplyDeleteHe was not in the roster submitted in January for that game so he couldn't play even though he wanted to. The PFF however made sure his name as well as Gueridon, Hinrichson and Lucena would be on the list for the Myanmar games so they could now play. They apparently want to use him in an attacking midfield role in a 4-5-1 setup so if he scores it will be from midfield.
Well thats good then. I thought we were playing 4-4-2 with Araneta and him upfront as a direct replacement for Phil.
ReplyDeletef--k me, my screen says we gon be playing a 0-0-0 coz i wont be seing jack! tagay, mare!
ReplyDeleteCraig burrows from pinoyfootball.com interviewed Dan Palami and that is what he said they will be using.
ReplyDeleteAngel can also play as a withdrawn forward but bec. of his technical skill and vision and bec. Phil is not available they moved him to AM.
Burrows also said that Borromeo will be playing defensive mid and del rosario will be pairing with Gier on central defence.
ReplyDeleteThere is a diagram of the starters on soccercentral.ph on their preview page.
Have you guys seen the highlights of the suzuki cup game vs myanmar? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyfKQCedO2E
ReplyDeleteAraneta actually had a good game. That last shot was great but the keeper made a world class save. And no, my first name isnt Ian.
Ian Araneta hasn't scored in 7 games. Bec of his lack of composure, he has blown chance after chance. Apparently they are starting him bec. Phil is not available so this is his last chance to redeem himself.
ReplyDeleteI dunno about playing Borromeo in central midfield. I guess i havent seen him do that enough. But if the coach says it is a better option than having simon and james there, than so be it. he's seen them enough in training to know what he is talking about. The Myanmar midfield is pretty good, one pass almost took us apart last time. Good thing he shot it straight at Neil.
ReplyDeletewell, Iam not sure if its composure. He is getting to the end of those balls so he knows how to position. You wont be able to do that if your not aware and focused. Cant say its nerves as the balls are being struck well enough. Maybe its more on finishing and a bit of bad luck with all those shots hitting the bar or post.
ReplyDeleteBorromeo from what I understand has played every position on the field including goalkeeper(which he apparently did well) in his long career so playing defensive mid wouldn't be too different since he plays central mid for his team Kaya sometimes.
ReplyDeleteI think he is the most important player of the team and is a rock on defence.
Does anybody know how the heck Myanmar was even allowed to host if they can't even be bothered to air the games?
ReplyDeleteJust read the comments on Ian Araneta in usapangfootball. You will see what most people think. If you are a striker you are supposed to score. Otherwise you should be replaced. He had 7 chances already and he is lucky to be given an eight.
ReplyDeletethis could be something. live telecast, maybe?
ReplyDeletehttp://sandugo2011.blogspot.com/2011/03/philippines-v-myanmar-live.html
Ask the AFC. Only they know. I think the reason the philippines was not allowed to bring a tv crew was bec. if there are signs of protest at the stadium they cannot control the telecast from the Philippines. They are probably spooked by what is going on in the middle east.
ReplyDeletebad day.. no live on tv, maybe no live stream.
ReplyDeletewhy they make myanmar host??
Good question from anonymous. Maybe the AFC lowered their standards because the AFC Challenge Cup is not that high profile. Who knows? I cant see any info on the AFC website on who and if the games will be telecast by anyone. espn star certainly isnt covering it and they are showing in myanmar.
ReplyDeleteYeah I did hear Ali played keeper once. Exactly my point when I say athletes should just concentrate on what the coach asks him to do. But central midfield in international competition? huge difference. You can be used to playing that position but when you play center back against center half, mentally theres a hell of a lot of difference. Will it be effective against the midfield of Myanmar? Thats the question Weiss has to gamble on if he will play it that way. Iam sure he will make adjustments if Ali wont hold the fort down in midfield.
People can say what they want about Araneta Eagle. Doesnt necessarily mean they are right. Like I said, Ive posted about his disappointing finishing also. It will boil down to the coach and how much he wants to experiment with his options. If Weiss sees him as an important part of the offense, and his other options cant give him the same holding and support play, he will still continue to play. As fans we translate a striker's value in the amount of goals he scores, which iam not saying is wrong. But a coach has other considerations. If there is anyone clearly better than Araneta right now, Weiss wont hesitate to replace him. He knows the eyes of the nation are on him.
Kagaw says:
ReplyDeleteAs I've said above, the Coach is not the sole authority in choosing the players.
So that your theory? Araneta is there because the PFF says so. Is he related to the President?
ReplyDeleteyeah...probably he is related to the president. the PFF president is from Barotac Iloilo too.. and trust me their clan's a big one in barotac. But to ian's credit he is quite good although he has been losing form recently. but hey!! the same thing happens even to world class players too!!
ReplyDeleteTune-in to DZMM 630 or follow Dyan Castillejo on Twitter (@DYANCASTILLEJO) for updates on the Myanmar v Philippines game
ReplyDeletecool jonny..i wonder if she is there?
ReplyDeleteOn Araneta, maybe we should verify that.
Kinda pathetic huh? Listening to the radio in this day and age? I just realized I have to set up my old compo with an antenna to get AM..hehehe
ReplyDeleteThis link looks interesting though :
ReplyDeletehttp://www.futbol24.com/Live/?__igp=1&LiveDate=&l=22619
At least Myanmar is going through a bad patch. They have lost 5 of their last 6 games. They drew the other one (guess who they played?)
will be a tough match....hope these Myanmar players will not try to injure our players with intention if the match is not running like they expect. Hm, result maybe a draw 0-0 or 1-1 should be ok for the start as our players might be quite tired after all this travelling.
ReplyDeleteJay : yes I think she is there. The info came from PFF official Facebook
ReplyDeleteit sounds like a session of congress on http://www.dzmm.com.ph/tabid/338/Default.aspx is this the right site?
ReplyDeleteI must say, the poll at the top of this site is useless. No offense jonny but this isn't a neutral site, therefore all the polls will always reflect bias towards a Philippine win.
ReplyDeleteTurkmenistan - Pakistan 1-0 (HT)
ReplyDeleteIs that the confirmed line-up?
ReplyDeleteFunny mental image: guys in a sports bar huddled around a transistor radio, ignoring the tvs...
ReplyDelete"Funny mental image: guys in a sports bar huddled around a transistor radio, ignoring the tvs... "
ReplyDeletelol! too bad it's some kind of congressional hearing. where's the game??
To anonymous about the poll : yes , you are right , it will only reflect what philippines fans expect .
ReplyDeleteIs the match started ? my livescore say TBA now..
5 min. played ...0-0
ReplyDeleteThe game isn't even on the radio. Crap. Imagine those same people huddled over the twitter page waiting for the tweets of Dyan Castillejo and Cedelf Tupas.
ReplyDeleteHAHAHA..yeah I can just see it..everybody is deathly quiet because they might miss the update
ReplyDeleteI bet theres more people here than watching whatever is showing on Channel 23..hahaha..sorry couldnt help it.
ReplyDelete10 min. ...0-0
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like we are back in the dark ages or at least before the advent of tv except its not a radio but a laptop I am looking at.
ReplyDeleteCommon Dyan, already 11 mins gone..

Is Aly really playing defensive mid?
ReplyDeleteYeah eagle but not much difference. At least in radio you can still get a blow by blow. Dyan is still on good catch by Myanmar goalie.
ReplyDeleteI'm wondering how they were supposed to commentate over the radio. There'd definitely be no tv at the station. The only people who could commentate would have to be in Myanmar. Skype? or they could also read Cedelf's updates on twitter at the station every time they come out.
ReplyDeleteDyan Castillejo's tweetdeck stopped working, according to CedelfTupas. I hope that his Twitter access won't disappear!
ReplyDeletewe have to commend dyan and cedelf on this, they're really making an effort to update us considering the circumstances.
ReplyDeletei agree. Dyan is a bit trying hard but i have changed my mind with this effort

ReplyDeleteborromeo at midfield? i dont know about that but i noticed him slowing down a bit since his knee injury in 2006.
ReplyDeletelooks like this is as good as it gets..
ReplyDeletehave got six tabs open right now -- this one, cedelf's twitter, dyan's twitter, live scores, google reader for any other azkal updates, and that blasted senate hearing. damn myanmar thought police ruining it for the rest of us!

ReplyDeleteMan this is frustrating. Myanmar should never host a football match again! And they don't deserve to see their team on tv when they play abroad. Can't the AFC suspend their federation?
ReplyDeleteang hirap pag di mo makita.
ReplyDeleteSo far we seems to have done a better job under McMenemy against the same team than under Weiss. Not good.

It seems gener is a weak spot. Myanmar taking advantage.
ReplyDeleteHard to tell if we are actually panicking or being outclassed or we just playing the defensive game again..
ReplyDeleteThey need to sub gener at some point.

Gener is too old and as it seems to slow for the fast and young Myanmar strikers
ReplyDeleteGener did a great job in Mongolia. Then again, Mongolia is no Myanmar.
ReplyDeleteNo shit Gener is the weak link. He's a CM playing at FB. To add, he's 36 yrs old!
ReplyDeletewho can we put in there? who are the subs?
ReplyDelete39th min 0-0
ReplyDeletealmost halftime. no word of football on DZMM. Hearing seems to be going on forever. sigh..
ReplyDeleteJay there's Sabio.
ReplyDeleteJay , I been posting this already in my blog
ReplyDeleteSubs: Barsales, Margarse, Sacapano, Hinrichsen, Tuason, Sabio, Espinosa
Not playing : Ferrer, Camcam, Lucena, Basa, Becite
i thought they were supposed to be more aggressive here? isn't that why coach weiss dropped several defenders from the roster and boosted the midfielders' numbers?
ReplyDeletegener will be replaced by Lucena in the 2nd game
ReplyDeletewhos the subs? they can slide aly back to CB then anton at RB to replace gener. I dunno whos gonna play DMF. Lucena or Dejong would be great.hehe!

ReplyDeleteHow about bring in sabio for gener then? jonsson at LB, where he was for Suzuki Cup, Sabio at RB.
ReplyDeletesenate hearing's finally stopped. or is it just my connection?
ReplyDeleteoh Ok. cool Jonny. Lets get Sabio in there then..
ReplyDeleteDoesnt sound promising. Lets hope we pull off a good counter attack soon.
ReplyDeleteFirst qualifier done...
ReplyDeleteTurkmenistan 3-0 Pakistan
Neil is keeping us in the game. That is why they call him the BUS
ReplyDeleteHearing's still on. This could be some conspiracy to get us football fans more informed in politics. I don't think there's ever been more people listening to a senate hearing. Haha
ReplyDeleteits not fun drinking beer and watching the game via twitter
ReplyDeleteI closed that station. Juggling bet. 3 twitters and posting.
ReplyDeleteWatching the game? More like reading the game...

ReplyDeleteMaswerte pa pala tayo. Look what the Burmese people have to live with:
ReplyDeleteThe Dilemma of Broadcasting Azkals' Game from Myanmar (from filipinofooties)
MANILA, Philippines - Why is there no live broadcast of the Azkals’ game in Myanmar?
Fans of the Philippine Azkals and football enthusiasts are complaining of the lack of a live broadcast of Monday’s AFC Challenge Cup group stage in Yangon, Myanmar.
For the AFC Challenge Cup, ABS-CBN and the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) tried to get permission to broadcast live from the country.
However, despite repeated requests, Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV), the government station which will cover the event, did not get the permit from higher authorities to beam the matches live via satellite to the Philippines.
“Negotiations are now underway for the broadcast rights and tape copies of MRTV’s coverage of the Azkals’ matches in Yangon,” ABS-CBN Sports said.
Some fans vented their frustrations on social media, with many Filipino Azkals fans having wild theories of the White Angels “cheating,” or of Myanmar simply afraid of losing.
Filipinos, who have long been accustomed to live feeds of events (sports or otherwise) from around the world, wondered why there has been difficulty in broadcasting from a Southeast Asian neighbor.
This is because media in Myanmar is tightly controlled by the government, and, unlike in the Philippines, foreign media cannot simply bring in cameras and laptops and broadcast (even tweet!) from the country.
Myanmar has been ruled by a military junta since 1962, and the government has a close eye on all kinds of media in the country.
It currently owns the main television and radio networks, as well as newspapers and other widely-circulated publications.
There are several Myanmar laws that mandate the monitoring of media, and every bit of information is closely censored by the government.
This means, every video clip, script, or article passes through government censors, prior to being disseminated on TV, radio, or in print. In addition, permits are needed just to own media equipment, and even computers.
Local media also have to get permission from the government to beam broadcasts live. This includes sporting events, such as the AFC Challenge Cup.
Foreign media have limited access to the country, and it is rare for journalists to get permission to enter.
Cameras, voice and tape recorders and laptops - communications equipment, in general - need permission to be brought into the country.
The internet is also closely monitored in Myanmar, and connections are slow and unreliable, exacerbated by poor electric supply.
All I can say is thank god for Neil the bus Etheridge.
ReplyDeletesad, reading a game =(

ReplyDeleteis it true myanmar won't even cover non-myanmar games? so we may get a tape and delayed telecast of this game, but the other two against palestine and bangladesh are a no-go?
ReplyDeletelong throws have been dangerous all day but the Philippines clear and have a penalty shout denied.

ReplyDeleteWhat happened? why'd they score??? I can't believe it... Sayang.. Palestine next, they need to win..
ReplyDeletesakit na ng ulo ko kakalipat ng mga tabs. hirap ng ganito, walang tv coverage. anyway, it's been great talking to you guys. till the next game!
ReplyDeletemyanmar general says he was just kidding. anak ng baka naman, ba't naman po nakasingit pa?
ReplyDeleteMyanmar is the strongest opponent we will be facing I think. we will be okay. we will add lucena next game.
ReplyDeletehow often does this happen? we let a goal in in extra time. how the hell do we know now if it was nerves or inexperience or if the damm ref put in too many mins..
ReplyDeletePanalo na, nag draw pa! Hmpf!
ReplyDeleteArgghh, so close..........damned! With a win we had the best chances to advance into the final round. Now it will be tough......we can't afford a defeat....let's see how the other teams play tonight. Maybe the result will be a draw as well.........would be best
ReplyDeletenow we are in competition with myanmar to beat the other teams by a wider goal margin to proceed..this sucks..but yeah it could have been worse
ReplyDeleteLet's hope it will be aired soon to really see what happened!
ReplyDeleteGo Azkals! We'll all be here come wednesday and still no tv coverage. Til then gentlemen...
ReplyDeletea draw against the host team is always a good result.
ReplyDeleteaccdg. to monico puentevella, "kalokohan" daw yung myanmar goal. it shouldn't have been allowed.
ReplyDeletegood night guys a few hours sleep then off to work
ReplyDeletevengeance is a must.beat those Palestine and bangladesh
ReplyDeleteWe don't need to fight vs. Myanmar for goal margin, as the best two teams will advance this time........so beat Palestine (which I think are stronger than Myanmar) and Bangladesh and the drop is eaten
ReplyDeleteGo azkals
ReplyDeleteWhat makes me worry is that we just scored by an penalty kick.......again unable to score from the field....Araneta again failed...just put Guirado as center ...with it's height he is superior for headers
ReplyDelete
