Update - Ray Jonsson and Jason de Jong

Ray Jonsson was reported in London on way to Beijing and then Ulan Bator , but last report was yesterday. His flight was delayed. Hopefully he is in Mongolia on Monday.

Jason de Jong got his debut today for Indonesian club Persiba Balikpapan away against Persija Jakarta but they lost 1-5. He was expected to leave for Ulan Bator after the match finished but still uncertain if he will be playing on Tuesday.

  1. About De Jong making his debut... That's false. He wasn't even part of Persiba's match day squad.

  3. I got this from a Indonesian football friend :

"His team just got trashed by Persija today 5-1 and De jong played very very poor, even the coach is very disappointed with his perfomance.

Looking at how the coach said to the media today, I dont think he will get permission to leave the club....but let see tomorrow morning."

  4. OK. Maybe Liga Indonesia website made a mistake? Because Metro Balikpapan show a picture of De Jong? hehe.

OK so he made his debut. From the comments of your friend, I'm not surprised. He's been compared to Nigel de Jong but he's not near that level and lacks a bit of work rate for a defensive midfielder.

    Anyway, thank you jonny.

  5. Thanks for the link , I think that website made a mistake. What is more interesting is if Jason will be going to Mongolia tomorrow. I think he is doubtful for that match and even also for possible matches in Myanmar ?

  6. I just got this link now :

    Google translated from Indonesian :

Furthermore, Haryadi also highlighted the performance of its foreign players from the Philippines, J. De Jong. Ajax football academy dropout is, considered not able to show his class.

"Game De Jong is still not satisfactory because throughout the game he had trouble developing the game. Looks like he needed a longer adaptation time," he continued.

  7. Great. That definitely proves he played.

Ajax academy dropout? That's definitely a mistake. Anyway, so he had a very poor debut. Let's hope he can recover from that soon and start to show some good performances. Obviously he's still young but if he can't hack it with a mid-table Indonesian top flight club then he'll end up as a journeyman footballer.

    Thanks again jonny.

I watched the Persija vs Persima game from a local channel which was aired live yesterday afternoon. De Jong and his team were thrashed 5-1 by a much stronger side and more popular team Persija featured some IND national team members. I think his performance was good for a first game he played in front of the back 4 as a defensive midfielder, he distributed the ball well playing the ball wide and at time he goes for the through pass to their center forward. In the second half he was the only midfielder developing the game from the back mainly because the other half of the midfield was unable to create because of close marking which made it harder for his passes to get tp their strikers, his defense below par I think he needs to adapt & gel with his defense so they can play as a more compact unit. In my opinion Persima lacked activity in all areas of the field the defense did not play as a compact back 4 to a better side giving them many spaces in the middle of the third half for 1 - 2 passes their forwards were just overpowered and closed down by the Persija back four most of the time thus not creating a lot of opportunity for them to get shots at goal. Their acquisition of De Jong is definitely crucial to their team that why they need him to adapt to the level of play and gel with the team the coach will rely on him as the season and his exposure to the level of play.

  14. Did they bring a backup GK or is Sacapano the only GK that traveled?

  15. hmmm... ok.

If it's only an 18 man squad then the final team would be:

Aly, Anton, Sacapano, Younghusband bros, Simon Greatwich, Sabio, Caligdong, Araneta, Ferrer, Gener, Jonsson, Palmes, Barsales, Jaugan, Barbaso, Camcam, Bermejo.

    That's it?

  16. Yes, I think this is the final list, but Im not sure if Jaugan is there?

  17. Based from the pics, Jaugan was with the team in Japan. So I'm assuming he's there in Mongolia as well.
