CFA announces tryouts for Cebu teams to regional finals

Cebu Daily News

THE Cebu Football Association (CFA) has announced the tryouts for the men’s U23 and U19 and girls’ U17 squads, which will be representing Cebu in the Visayas regional finals.

First up will be the girls U17 or those born 1994 tomorrow from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the San Roque football field.

The men’s U23 and U19 tryouts, on the other hand, will be held this Sunday at the Aboitiz Sportsfield in Subangdaku Mandaue City.

In a meeting last Monday night with all coaches, CFA president Richard Montayre said they have agreed that U19 tryouts will be from 7:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., while the U23 will have its tryouts from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Those who want to tryout for the U19 should be born on 1993, while U23 tryouts will be those for born 1989.

The U23 will represent the CFA at the regional qualifying round to be held from April 11 to 23. This goes the same for the U19, which will have its regional qualifying round from April 25 to 19.

While other areas in Luzon and Mindanao hold group stage eliminations or otherwise known as cluster qualifying rounds, the National Capital Region (NCR) and the Visayas both automatically qualify for the regional final.

  1. I thought the PFF National Championship was suppose to be an actual CLUB championship? But with this announcement by the Cebu FA of conducting tryouts, it's evident the format from before hasn't changed and each team is just a regional selection rather than actual club teams.

  2. pff smart club championship is a lie, there are no real clubs like ufl league only selection teams and no regular training . imagine thaorganizers will profit from smart input but not the players themself. they will be only used for small budgets. romualdez is now mentioned as an idea giver of such tournament but in fact he was more poblematic as martinez. nice that players can move but it´s more or less budget wasting and smart can pay. better was to help real clubs like in bacolod the youth united fc, bt nothing happens.

  4. To anynomous : This is about U23 and U19 championships not the Club Championship.
Anyway , I think you are right that the Club Championship will be more a regional competetion than a Club Championship..

  5. It doesn't matter if this is for the U23 & U19, I'm sure it's the same for the senior event. And from other articles, it also hints towards a regional tournament like previous PFF Open Championships and teams will be going under the name of their respective FA. Example: NCRFA v CFA and so on.
