  3. 1-0 TLS @26th min. That back line is a disaster. TLS forwards looking to capitalize more out of this weakness. It's just terrible defending.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Nice cross, nice finishing #7 DC guy. 1-1 even. But this game still has huge indicators characteristic of an awful game. one awful team trying to out awful the other.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Im at work and cant watch this match. Line-ups ? who scored for Philippines , OJ Porteria ?

    ReplyDelete
  6. For PHIL #7 kid fm Washington DC according to the commentators. TLS kid that scored, Perera or something. Halftime at this point. TLS offense pounded on Hartman side, poor kid; same way Vietnam exploited that side.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Thanks, updated with starting eleven.

  8. 2-1 TLS struck again on PHIL weak side. No authority, this defense. Madness.

    ReplyDelete
  9. why didn't the army guys and the younghusbands play in this game?

    ReplyDelete
  10. scuffle. Ref pulled a yellow card fm his ass and flashed it on muller.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Ott also picked up a yellow. Some sparks of fine football fm # 7.

  12. Hartman shorthair out, Leonora (sp?) in

  13. sorry johny I'm not up to snuff with lineup names. ott is all engine up in this game. kid's all over the place. TLS this team bad football. de jong intercepts fails to score. Long-hair Hartman out, UST kid in (#9)

    ReplyDelete
  14. de murga working the right flank, great effort, nice attempt. keep at it kid.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Leonora took yellow. heinrichsomething out

    ReplyDelete
  16. TLS having a "diving" binge. Leonora not the best defender on the left, but at least he is making TLS know that he is there! good work, kid. That's right don't let anyone get by you.

  17. Long shot that almost made it, Valmayor. Closing min now. 21/2 minutes

  18. maganda laro ni De Jong. did he shift to RM? thats his natural position, he is very strong in that position.

i mapped out a grassroots program for our beloved country. let me know if theres anything i missed out.

  19. FINAL whistle. 2-1 TLS. Awful football. We failed. We outawful'd an awful team.

    ReplyDelete
  20. you mapped out a grassroots program?!?! hahahahahahaha! asa!! stick to football manager.

    ReplyDelete
  21. 10 pts? a medal? ya, total bs from palami, weiss and co.

    ReplyDelete
  22. hahahhaha.

look, we had a better 2nd half. we really controlled possession in the 2nd half. first half we were playing hoof ball, especially matthew hartmann. he really is the weakest link in the squad. walang vision si hartmann, he cant read his teammates movements, hindi maka anticipate, kaya hoofball na lang. he should sit out the next game.

de jong is a revelation on right midfield. thats always been his natural position, hes crummy as a defensive midfielder cause his timings off, but as a right midfielder... ayos!

looking forward to next match. no de murga though.

    ReplyDelete
  23. get off matt hartmann's back already. can't you people understand he was playing out of position at CENTER BACK!! not an easy position to play when you're more of an offensive minded player.

    ReplyDelete
  24. right. but he (matt hartmann) was really crummy in that game. and when he came off, things got better. they were able to hold off the attacks, and the midfield was able to get its act together. coincidence?

check out my blog here - http://philippinesthesickmanofasia.blogspot.com/2011/11/para-sa-mga-nagmamahal-sa-philippine.html

Sandugo - thanks for the comment.

    ReplyDelete
  25. again, being crummy is a result of being played out of position at arguably the hardest position to play (center back) when you're an offensive minded player!!

attack minded player switched to CB = crummy performance.... coincidence? matt playing center back would be like caligdong playing there.

    ReplyDelete
  26. ...BARBASO is the guy who can save the back 4 of the Philippines. Don't know why they don't "BELIEVE" in him...especially WEISS... Hartman is not a defender...better put him in midfield...that Patrick H. should have done a sliding tackle on that second goal of Timor...poor defense...THE HARTMAN brothers...where are they?... :(

    ReplyDelete
  27. i think the lineups are quite good. bunch of talent, skills and football experience. but too individual. team cohesion not solid. and TIMOR LESTE is quite a revelation! they were good off the ball like vietnam. their passing, though few, were all accurate. their runs on the wings were timely. talk about using space and saving energy for counterattacks (talk about football economics). we had good chances pero mas magaling lang talaga on and off the ball ang east timor. im amazed.

    ReplyDelete
  28. TOTAL EMBARASSING RESULT

    ReplyDelete
  29. Many positive moves happen after the horror match vs Vietnam... but tactics not complete and the management and coaching staff are guilty for this.. many players did play on wrong positions ( like de Jong.. I agree he should play more on right side ).. the left side problem not complete solved.. Christaens not worked well in defense . only offense minded... Matt Hartmann also weak... if the team was better organized .. very sure we would not have lost vs EAST TIMOR .. but PITY .. BETTER PERFORMANCE but still some positions unclear and that was the chance for Timor Leste... as substitutes came in some more qulaity came up!

    ReplyDelete
  30. yeah, i agree. it's really on the coaching staff. out-of-position players are likely to put less on team play and hardly blend. we may have the potential but they're not well-tapped. the level is not up to international standards of play. im just amazed to see East Timor level up a bit higher than us. well, it's not the end for the team. it's a long way to run.

    ReplyDelete
  31. a couple of timorese players play in Brazillian clubs youth teams. they have another player from Portugal who is of Portuguese descent. And also one that plays in australia. they are no push overs. we can beat this team, if only the players were in their strong positions.

de jong should be on right midfield from now on. he creates more chances there, and it is more suited to his style. he is not a defensive midfielder, that would be his uncle Nigel De Jong.

    ReplyDelete
  32. shame on TLS for stealing our ideas.

way too late into the game when we finally recognized the weak spot in that TLS back line.

    ReplyDelete
  33. How come other SEA u-23's are showing obvious improvement but PH still seems clueless as regards teamplay? OK, football's still in the nursery stage but you can't tell me Filipinos aren't as capable of learning as any other emerging nation. The natural reaction is to conclude the coaching staff are doing a piss-poor job but as my nanay keeps saying: ''you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear'' and any hairy-assed coach knows if a player hasn't mastered all the basic skills by the age of 16 it's very unlikely he'll ever be anything other than ordinary.

Which means it's time for the PFF to stop wasting all this money on fancy foreign training and put it in the only place where it can make an impact: grassroots development.
There's no need and no money for sophisticated programs; just give the kids enough decent spaces and they'll teach themselves.

  36. "How come other SEA u-23's are showing obvious improvement but PH still seems clueless as regards teamplay?"

It should be obvious as hell!!! Our U-23's is the least prepared team in this year's SEA Games. On top of that, we most likely have the youngest squad with a majority of the players being under 20!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. youngest squad? only four of them are below 20 years old, many other team also has 4 until 5 players under 20 years old. and in case you dont know other teams u-19 are right now competing in AFC U-19 which Philippines are not competing. so there you go..the future of Philippines football..

    ReplyDelete
  38. Here we go again! More training!
If international footballers haven't done enough training at club level to slot into a team with only minor guidance from the coach then they're simply not good enough to wear the national shirt and never will be.

    ReplyDelete
  39. "youngest squad? only four of them are below 20 years old,"

12 of our players are under 20!!

And yes I do know that other teams are in qualifying right now for the AFC U-19's next year and we're not. you don't make sense though, what are you trying to get at with your last sentence?!?

"If international footballers haven't done enough training at club level"

Mind you, we have a really young squad. Which means we have an inexperienced squad and most of them aren't even playing regular first team football if any at all! And this isn't senior level. What you're saying is only applicable at senior level! And even then, it's not like we're a world class footballing nation, so our players are going to need some sort of time to train together and therefore gel. So all this BS about they'll never be good enough to wear the national shirt and all that is just ridiculous and immature!

    ReplyDelete
  40. "youngest squad? only four of them are below 20 years old,"

12 of the 20-man squad are under 20!! That's 60% of the squad! That's definitely significant since this is an under-23 tournament not under-20!!

Yes, I do know that other countries are in qualification right now for next year's AFC U-19's and we're not. So what?

"Here we go again! More training!
If international footballers haven't done enough training at club level to slot into a team with only minor guidance from the coach then they're simply not good enough to wear the national shirt and never will be."

Mind you, as I've said, our squad has a lot of under 20 players. Therefore they're barely playing any first team football if any at all. And if they are, the level isn't that high. So yes, they're going to need to train together for some sort of period also for the sake of cohesion! And it's not like we have world class footballers so all the more they'll need to train together and it doesn't have to be too long.

What you're also saying is only applicable at senior level. So all this BS about they'll never be good enough to wear the national shirt and all that is just ridiculous and immature!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. 5 players are under 20 ! Van Bossche, OJ Porteria, Manuell Ott , Gerardo Valmayor and Mark Hartmann . 4 of them are 19 and one is 17 and 15 players are 20 to 23.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philippines_national_under-23_football_team

    ReplyDelete
  42. Under-20 includes players who ARE 20! It makes it 12 players! Just like the SEA Games is an U-23 tournament but there are 23 years olds who are competing!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. hehehe what valmayor doin and clarino in the offensive attacks on the second half???hehehe......

and it doesnt mean that the other foreign players have a training from their mother clubs that they are fit for the NT, yes they a training but a team mate for the NT i dont know...proof look at the result...

training as a team push this PFF....parang sa PBA lang yan eh nabubuo ang team malapit na ang tournament kaya anu ang result bupols...

    ReplyDelete
  44. id put money on leonora and valmayor. i havent seen enough of their games but they looked decent-impressive. if im not mistaken valmayor is UPDiliman kid that got recognized for something earlier. a freshman, does anyone know? leonora (i might be mispelling) stamped some hurting at TLS forwards from the back line (left). i think its important for defenders to have a "im-gonna-tear-you-apart" mentality over strikers, for PRESSURE, if anything. none of the other defenders before him didnt have that feeling of urgency. also, he plays he did were so simple and conservative, a touch of old school. we want the back end to keep it simple, right? just fundamental defending, not staring and "katsup" like the previous ones before him. manny ott's heart more than his skills, are fantastic.

    ReplyDelete
  45. i would rather chose bedic and beloya over valmayor....he didnt impress me even in the under 23 tourney.....anyways he is good in the UAAP his record is good even in the UFL....and im with you sandugo regarding leonora....

  46. Hey guys. Just wondering. A few months ago, there was an under-23 national football tournament (Suzuki I think). We saw Ilo-ilo and Bacolod coming out the best teams along with other provincial teams along with NCR. I saw in the different press releases that the U-23 national team would be fielded based on this tournament. Why is it that I see none of the best players from that tournament in the starting 11? I saw many of those players play very good football, I think even better than many of the present starting 11 against Timor. Why?

    ReplyDelete
  47. Matt Hartmanns main position may not be centerback, but thats something the coach has to see as well. He made his debut years ago as a defensive player, and that is his main position, playing in the back 4. He is clearly not a player with a offensive mindset. Have you seen him playing midfield? He is better off leaving the offensive play to midfielders who knows to play offensive, rather than playing long balls with no address, like Matt do. The kid has no offensive fibers in his body. I wonder why a player like Unabia didnt make the team.

As to the all the hype and lack of preperation. I blame the management. Theyve gone out to media and said their goal is semifinals, and then changed it to getting a medal. They aimed for 10 points, 3 wins and a draw. They can still get wins, but its clear they went overboard with their goals. I dont remember when they first said that their goal was semifinals/medal, but then why didnt they prepare better if they were aiming that high?

Why does the teams always have to go to Japan? Is it because Weiss` wife is japanese, and wants a free trip to Japan once in a while?

Other than that, id say the boys have done their best. Cant really blame them. The team has talent and skills, but thats not always enough if they havent prepared well enough. In this case its the management who failed the boys. Its games like this that we couldve won if the team was well prepared.

Btw, there are players from the U23 Suzuki Cup in the squad.

  48. Lots of things work in mysterious ways in The Philippines and national team player selection is one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  49. ^^

Youre definetly right about that! Its been like that for ages, and doesnt seem it will change anytime soon.

    ReplyDelete
  50. "Matt Hartmanns main position may not be centerback, but thats something the coach has to see as well. He made his debut years ago as a defensive player"

He was a LB. That's still different from playing CB!!

"I blame the management. Theyve gone out to media and said their goal is semifinals, and then changed it to getting a medal."

I've said that since earlier in the year when Palami and even PFF president Araneta were making noise about they aim to bring home our first ever medal in football. But for the most part so many just go along with what they say especially with Palami! What he says they believe it and expect them to deliver. It's idiocy of the highest order.

"Why does the teams always have to go to Japan?"

Why not? It seems that the PFF has some sort of agreement with the Japanese FA which allows to use their training facilities. If I remember correctly, Japan is one those countries who have offered to help us out footballing wise and us using their facilities is just one of those things on offer.

"Other than that, id say the boys have done their best."

    This.

"In this case its the management who failed the boys."

    And especially this..... BIG TIME!!!
This. Again, so many people cam't seem to see that and are still blinded with the words of Palami and Weiss that they'll get 10 pts and bring home a medal. They end up saying this and that player is shit all that without having any sort of rationale.

  53. Wow 53 Comments 10 years ago at Pinoy Soccer com you can't even gather at least 5 comments everytime Gonzales and company played at Tiger Cup tournaments. It' definitely a big improvement. Kaya yung may mga kamaganak na gustong maglaro nang football regaluhan agad nang sapatos at gear tutal magpapasko naman. Ngakngak is good but contributing is better.

  54. supah-dupah LIKE: regalo sa pasko. us here out of the country have already done our lil pamasko re contribution to thw cause. just 5 old-timers. we collected some old gears fm middleschool n HS teams, just "used" but in perfect condition gear. we didnt have to spend anything except for LBC shipping wc we divvied up among us 5. it's not enough, but might go a long way for the mga bata sa kabukiran. 3 boxes for christmas. i remember back in the day my older bro had to use his boy scout socks, robertsons shoes, n "mobile" plastic improvised shin guards. not these kids at least this christmas.

What really bugs me is that, we have competent and capable AFC license home grown coaches who can handle the U23 team which could have trained longer and joined tournaments together to improve cohesion - which obviously lacking in both games, individual quality is there but you need a team to win its that simple, Coach Weiss handling both the senior and the U23 is not really a wise decision since these are two different sets of players. Or the PFF is just being frugal since the federation is not paying for Coach Weiss.

The PH team preparation is relatively a shot in the dark compared to a SEA power house Indonesia which employed a different coach for their Senior team - Wim Rijsbergen (Dutch)and U23 coach Rahmad Darmawan (Indonesian) comparatively common sense dictates that this is sound so that both teams will have direction and focus even if some players play in the senior team for a different coach.

I am currently based Jakarta, to tell you honestly its a footballing heaven - football is imbibe in their blood I can honestly say that we have a long-way to go. I have been with the PH football program through the PFF both as a player and a coach. I hope we can learn from our past mistakes, I believe that we can do it with patience and the right program properly supervised we can do it!

    ReplyDelete
  56. C'mon guys, Timor Leste is a very dangerous team. The dark horse of the tournament. Mind you, TLS will might just beat Laos and Myanmar. Their forwards are really tall, agile and really good.

Leonora fits the center back position. But I think he came in as a sub to save him for the next matches because he has already incurred 1 yellow card in the Vietnam game. We really lack personnel at the defensive position, something the coaching staff forgotten.

    ReplyDelete
  57. TLS has same problematic backfield as us. For the most part they could not arrest our attacks, no air power, poor tackling, and couldn't burn any pace at all forward in support of their own attacks. There isn't any dominant player in that back line or somebody that had a commanding presence that really controlled things. And they're kinda "soft" too, or missing any sign of rugged defending. They didn't look like they were comfortable with the ball, but I'm not really sure; maybe they were just having a bad day too. Jet lag :-)

Even if say we had the scouting report on TLS internalized by our players (assuming somebody did their homework/did their job), we still would've had been handicapped on account of we did not have anybody upfront that could bully their back line into submission. The front put together had no tactical awareness, gave up easily, and pretty much did nothing or could not do anything to shake off TLS' defense. Valmayor at one point showed howitzer-like power on that foot, reacting, I hope, on instincts. The kid #7 that scored the lone goal could've been an exponent but his technical skills fell short because for the most part he got too busy occupying spots vacated by others, pretty much like Ott. Manny Ott tried to dictate rhythm fm the git go yet unnecessary errors by others made him into a damage control guy on the pitch, a job that took a lot out of him.

At any rate, my thing is this, that Weiss and his coaching staff did not do what they're supposed to do: do their job. His job description and the rest of his mates is to MANAGE and COACH and getting paid to do it. Oh they owe it to the fans big style! The fans deserve a better performance each time you guys take to the pitch. 110% conviction to win, no excuses. What good a coach are you if you don't have the confidence each time. Let your players not have confidence once in a while but not you in your capacity as coach. He'll you're suppose to put lightning bolts in your players' rears. Create, keep things together, inspire, drive, build...win, or at least play like winners. You failed in all counts!

Now instead of the Filipino football masses rejoicing about the games, anticipating like possessed lot anxious for the next game, there's nothing but loads of hearts broken. We don't deserve this.

    ReplyDelete
  58. "there's nothing but loads of hearts broken."

More hearts are broken because those people are actually expecting them to win a medal. Too many expect too much too soon. Palami says something, most fans believe it and expect him and the team to deliver. In this case, they'll bring home a medal. Yet these same fans can't seem to think on their own that what Palami said isn't realistic especially with this young squad.

  59. beloya and morallo (NOFA), leonora (IFA), clarino (NCRFA) came from U23 Suzuki Cup qualifiers. unabia (NOFA), martinez (IFA) and barbaso (dipolog) who went for the tryouts but did not make it. barbasao and unabia could have been fitter choices for the backline AND we don't know how they dont make the cut. sayang hindi na-tap yung iba like dolino and tacusalme brothers (NOFA), gustilo (IFA), permanes (NCRFA) due to UFL priorities. the hartmanns could have compensated and every fan was expecting more from them but they have yet to deliver. muller, ott, de jong and porteria are really into this for the Fil-foreigners. kulang lang talaga sa cohesion and obviously, possession and position, on and off the ball. sana coach weiss make the wise move sa remaining 3 games natin.
