UFL Cup knockout phase under way

MANILA, Philippines - The stage is set for the knockout phase of the United Football League Cup with reigning league champion and third seed Air Force Phoenix FC colliding with Manhur and No. 4 Nomads Auction Manila clashing with Pasargad today at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. The matches will also be aired live on AKTV on IBC 13.

With a lineup that boasts of national players Ian Araneta and Chieffy Caligdong, the Airmen, who topped Group E via a three-game sweep, is the fancied team in the 2 p.m. showdown against Manhur, which qualified as the No. 2 squad from Group G.

Nomads Auction, last year’s second division champion, tangles with a Pasargad side that scraped through the last 16 after salvaging a 1-1 draw against Green Archers last Saturday.

Group D topnotcher Kaya-Cignal tackles Group B second-placer Team Socceroo in another last 16 duel at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Nomads pitch, where Group E winner Green Archers will also seek a slot in the quarterfinals against Group A No. 2 Lions FC Meltique Beef in another match set at 8:30 p.m.
