Official Statement from the PFF and ABS-CBN Sports about AFC Challenge Cup coverage in Myanmar

In their desire to telecast the Azkals’ matches in the Union of Myanmar in the Philippines as well to all the Filipinos in the world via TFC, Philippine Football Federation (PFF) and media partner ABS-CBN have been continuously communicating with the Myanmar Football Federation (MFF) and other agencies since March 3.

As of the end of office hours Friday in Yangon, however, MRTV, the Myanmar government’s television arm and official coveror of the football matches, has not yet secured the required permit to beam the game live via satellite. The next update from MRTV is expected Monday morning.

If a live satellite feed would not be possible, the PFF and ABS-CBN shall exhaust all means to secure a tape of the coverage and play it back at the earliest possible time.

  1. "PFF and ABS-CBN" ??
I suspect that the PFF is responsible for this statement. ABS-CBN could care less...

  3. This is definitely damage control as a result of the uproar to "Azkal Live broadcast in Peril" press release a few days ago. Now they are saying it is the Myanmar government fault we will not see the game live. How convenient. So your sure its not because ABS CBN did not double check what time slots the team will be playing in Myanmar and did not realize they had PBA commitments. Sounds like somebody dropped the football here. Sometimes its better to admit mistakes than make up these lame excuses.

  4. If that game is not televised live, traffic on this site might be more than those who will watch the PBA game. Hehehe. I am just being cheeky, I dont want to stroke the flames of the basketball vs football debate..

  5. If Myanmar cannot Televise games live? then Why did AFC gave them the rights to host the games? We were not allowed to host the Indonesian game coz the stadium is not big enough and I believe lights was also an issue. We needed more lights so we can cover the game at night(prime time). Lame excuse this one.

  6. Spot on Lacotes. Lame di ba? I think these guys underestimate the intelligence of the fans. Its that system of misleading the public all over again. I am so sick of that from the past administration and its sad the PFF is towing the line on this and not raising hell. Who stands to lose the most if football's popularity wanes because of this lousy coverage?

  7. What good are you as PFF president if you can't make things happen, or at least come out and explain WHY you can't make things happen. If we are getting Myanmar'd I might buy that, but if it's Futbol v. Basketball and the latter is getting over on this one, these guys are about to find out the hard way what football fans are really made of. For hell hath no fury than Azkals fans scorned.

I think the PFF gods got spanked by PBA or whomsoever has huge financial investments in that sport. Frikin pushovers the whole lot!

Rebulusyon! Rah-rah-rah, sis-boom-bah! I better get a facebook account quick. Wait I already have friendster.
