Azkals freeze in tune up

By FRANCIS SANTIAGO

MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Azkals were a shadow of their reputation and fell to the Kanto Gakuin University football team, 4-0, yesterday in the first of their friendly duel in Gotemba City, Japan.

It was not the kind of result expected from the team but officials said that can be explained by the Azkals’ lack of familiarity in the playing conditions which was nearly freezing and also the fact that the Japanese squad was apparently far superior in both technique and teammanship.

The game was part of the Azkals’ preparation for their crucial AFC Challenge Cup rematch against Mongolia on March 15 and it showed they have to make plenty of adjustments when the real match begins.

“Medyo nag-aadjust pa sila sa lamig,” Azkals strength and conditioning coach Josef Malinay said in an overseas call yesterday.

The match was played in an artificial pitch at the Toki no Sumika recreational facility in Gotemba City Wednesday morning where the players according to Malinay, groped for form.

After the game, Malinay said German coach Hans Michael Weiss told his boys to “learn from this game because this (cold weather) is just a glimpse of what they should expect in Mongolia.”

When the national football team plays in Ulan Bator, the weather is expected to be between negative 8 and 20 degrees Celsius. Yesterday, temperature in Gotemba ranged from five to zero degrees.

The Azkals play another tune up match against a college team tomorrow.

  5. Wow!! This spells disaster here in Mongolia. This is the very thing I've been so worried about - their inexperience playing at high altitude and extreme weather combined. And no acclimatization! patay kang bata ka!! ni wala man lang akong makitang snow dyan sa Japan. Wait till you guys arrive here on Saturday!

  6. Lets not start panicking. The team still needs a lot of work to start with. New coach new system and some players. There are a lot of key players missing from the Suzuki Cup team and they will need time to blend. It would have been interesting to see the game. Wonder why ABS CBN didnt cover it considering they have arrangements with the PFF an there is so much interest in the Azkals? They should at least send somebody for a proper match report with stats on possession, free kicks, etc. Anyway, thats why we need to train and acclimitize. It is disappointing though as you would expect we be at least competitive against a University team. You can get an idea how far Japan is ahead of us. I remember this was the same when we played tune ups in Thailand a few years before. We lost against University teams there too. Anyway, lets see how they make adjustments and this is where we will see what Weiss is all about.

  7. As a merchant seaman in the late-1980's our ship's team used to play Japanese teams in port. When the score reached 6-0 we used to ease off to save them embarrassment. A few years later they were doing exactly the same to us.
Football match skills have to be learned and the Azkals have just started college.
Don't worry though; unless sub-zero turns Pinoys into pillars of ice they're still good enough to see off Mongolia.

  8. Mga "Kanto" boys pala kalaban nila. At least they got the taste of playing in a competitive game in cold weather. I remember that right before the AFF Suzuki Cup they lost to a Thai team 8-0 but they were able to bounce back. I know it's not a very similar situation but at least we know the Azkals have the heart to recover.

  12. Ok lang yan. If you remember, last year's pre-Suzuki Cup tune-up games also ended in big defeats. Nakabawi naman sila sa tournament mismo.

Let's hope that this only proves Japan's superiority, and not the Azkals' incapability to beat Mongolia or the teams in the Challenge Cup group.

  15. If I remember correctly, during the Azkals lost a tune-up match against a Thai 3rd division team before the 2010 Suzuki Cup.

Coach Macca immediately canceled the rest of the tune-up matches for fear it would affect the team's moral. He made the right choice as the Azkals went on an amazing run.

I wonder how Coach Weiss will react to this loss.

  16. You are right they lost 8-0 to Thai Div 1 club (level 2 in Thailand). I had to search all Thai club websites to find about the match and the result. I dont think any Philippines media mentioned this match at all..

  17. Lets face facts here. the Askals were beaten by a local college team. these Jap players are not pros.
The Askals seem to rely on failed euro football players like the Younghusband brothers, who are not profesional players. they are fooling you guys big time and your buying it. If they were any good they would have a club team to play for. its a complete joke.

  18. Failed Euro players? LOL! The Younghusband brothers are unattached because they want to be, not because of they suck and no club would take them. You're talking out your ass!

  19. 1. "these Jap players are not pros"- neither are most of the Azkals.

    2. "failed euro football players" - you mean like Jonsson, Gier, De Jong, and Neil Etheridge?

    3. "they are fooling you guys" - fooling us, how? By risking their careers being away from their FC, to play for their national team?

I don't understand how some people can get satisfaction from being haters.
I hope you know that you're not helping anyone.

  20. The MNT is ranked 151 by FIFA right now. There is a reason for that. If they continue with their current management and coaching, I expect that they will slowly crawl up the rankings. That is not a joke or a disappointment. I would consider that a success. The PFF has been mismanaged for so many years that a new professional approach will make improvement inevitable. It will take time. They may tie or beat a higher ranked team and they may stumble against a lower ranked team. They will get better.

  21. Patay.....4-0 crushed by a University team who are kinds of sparetime kickers. Acclimatisation see-saw.....there is still a long, long hard way to go for our azkals. We should also not expect too much from them when they manage to advance to the next round (group stage in Myanmar) or from the upcoming WC qualifier. We are just at the beginning after a long drought in football. To become better and being a force in SEA needs time and a lot of improvment in stability. We also should calm down from the latest Tiger Cup results. I guess it will be even quite tough to repeat this great result. They are on a good way now with (finally) a solid managment in the background. So GO AZKALS!

"Failed Euro players? LOL! The Younghusband brothers are unattached because they want to be, not because of they suck and no club would take them. You're talking out your ass"

i wish i could talk out my ass.....
I know a lot about football. even more so the UK football scene.
The younghusbands both were released from the clubs they were with cause they were NO good.

its hard to debate with people who are blinded by half-pinoys who come over to the P.I. cause they cant make in in their own country (England)

as for Neil Etheridge - He is the 3rd choice keeper for Fulham. that means he doesnt even warm the bench because the 2nd choice keeper is ahead of him. He is that low in the pecking order than he was put out on loan the other day to Charlton FC, who are TWO leagues lower than Fulham FC.

Do some research instead of reading bias reports from the main Pinoy new sites.

The Askals can do without these failed Euro players, thats my point.

educate and train young pinoys then you would be a force in about 10 years.

    ReplyDelete
  23. "The Askals can do without these failed Euro players, thats my point."

Hahahahahaha!!!! That's the most retarded thing I've read regarding the national team!

So let me ask you "Sir"... which local player do you suggest replace these "failed Euro players"? Even with a couple of these so called failed euro players, THEY FUCKING LOST 4-0 TO A UNIVERSITY TEAM!! Back in November when they were preparing for the Suzuki Cup they lost 8-0.... Yes that's right EIGHT FUCKING NIL to a lower league Thai club with local players which included the "failed Younghusband borthers".

And so what if the Younghusband got released by Chelsea? So what if Etheridge is third choice at Fulham? What's your point? What local player currently is there or you would be able to find that is so much better and supposedly successful than these "failed players".

"educate and train young pinoys then you would be a force in about 10 years."

Another idiotic statement. By saying that you admit that the current batch of locals aren't up to par but still call the better players (the half-Filipinos) as "failed". You also say 10 years as if it's that easy! You clearly know jack shit about football.... "Sir"...

Who some pinoys like you sound american when your angry?

You dont need these failed Euro players to come over to the P.I. and spend most fo their time doing tv ads and making a decent bit of cash. thats the real reason why they are in the P.I.

"And so what if the Younghusband got released by Chelsea? So what if Etheridge is third choice at Fulham? What's your point?"

my point is that you said they were good. i was just showing that they are not even near being good. Because i know a lot about them and football in Europe.

Im for the local guys to do well, thats why i would see more time spent with the youths and not people like Younghusband charging high PHP, which is more than most pinoys cant pay (cause he only wants the rich elite attending his football acadamy) more proof that his motive is cash.

    Thanks for reading!

  26. So much for your knowledge. Where have you been for the last 50 years? Iam also not sold to this idea of relying on filipinos abroad but the level of our football is such we cant compete with a full local line up. We have to rely on filipinos abroad who get trained properly and exposed to around triple the number of competitive games by the time they reach 16 or 17 years compared to their counterparts here. Ever think of that before you try to say something "knowledgeable". what a joke. We all know what happened in Chelsea so dont think your giving us some earth shaking news. Your knowledge is at best, irritating and unremarkable. In the outside world, its called leapfrogging. You dont have to teach these guys guys because they already have been taught. Any football team or athletic program will do what they need to do to win. Everybody knows this..why dont you?

So you would rather these guys just stick around and watch opportunities pass by? The truth is even if you feel these guys are no good, they are actually pretty good if they play in south east asia. There are standing offers for them to play in Indonesia. Nothing your saying hasnt been said before. 10 years?..right so easy to say. what a really thoughtful insight considering what the condition of the PFF was for the past 50 years. Even with all the support they are getting now, it is still nothing compared to how much money Thailand, Indonesia, malaysia and Singapore are pouring into their program. Yet at the moment these guys cant beat us like they use to before. Think, before you speak..its less embarrassing.

Hi Jay, thanks for at least writing yor name.

ill try and answer your questions....

"Where have you been for the last 50 years? Iam also not sold to this idea of relying on filipinos abroad"

For the last 35 years i have been on earth. the 15 years prior to that i can only guess....
Im also glad you agrere with me.

The team in indonesia was only offering short change in wages to younghusband.....thats why he refused....also cause they are in a poor quality league. Younghusband is a stupid name, do you agree?

I still have issiues with the brothers charging high fees for pinoy kids to learn football at their academy, most of whom cant afford....obviously exploiting the kids parents to pay.

it should be free if they really care about your country.

the rest of the stuff you said was just nuts....

from another anonymous (write your names)
"Sir Kev D, you sire, must be on crack. Your comments, while heard, are pitiful and belong in the bin. You done mixed up football with your favorite sport: curling, which I suppose you probably suck at too. "

  29. Well Kev, you have been on earth but what you have shown is you dont know much about football in the Philippines. Stick to what you know in the UK. My opinion on the reliance on fil foreigners has always been there since they came out in 2007. So my opinion has been the same long before you raised this here. As I have said, you havent written anything I dont already know. I was trying to point out that you have no idea of the circumstances in the last 50 years. The question was rhetorical but you still answered it. Obviously you dont know what I mean by leapfrogging. I guess you will need to read up on that as you think its nuts. It just means you dont need to reinvent the wheel. If you have players who are already up to a higher standard than your other players, obviously you will have to use the more experienced ones simply because you dont need to train them or expend resources to get them up to that standard your aiming for. If thats nuts then you must certainly be in another level. Whether its above us Filipinos, thats a different question. Younghusband and company, I never said are super footballers but they have skills and experience none of our local players have. If you have watched our players closely, you can see the difference. You need to understand this before making your statements. You put too much stock on what you know and that is why you are getting these negative comments.

Indonesia is a poor league compared to what? Its poor wages compared to what? Do you know what we have in the Philippines? I dont think so. I heard there was a team here in the UFL that didnt even pay the measly allowances they were promised. So compared to those guys, if Phil was offered 1 rupiah its more than what those other guys will ever be paid. So how do you think they will live here in the Philippines? They are footballers not saints.

About caring for the country, they could still be in the UK living comfortably if they werent here. They have been here for 4 years and they were earning the same allowances the other players got during those times when there was probably 90% less financial support to what they are getting now. If your so smart, tell us how much allowances they got and then think about what your saying? Whatever they get outside of these allowances are opportunities that they are just grateful for. They have to take advantage of name recognition just like what Beckham and Ronaldo are doing and who are probably less knows here in the Philippines at the moment then the Younghusbands. Are you saying there are no other football players in the UK who charge for training kids? Why should the rules in the Philippines be different? If your so smart about what these guys charge, how much is it compared to say the Man U Academy is charging for training kids in the UK?

Finally, Whats your surname? It could also be stupid depending on the depth of the person reading it.

  31. Ha-ha-ha-ha, that's a good one, Jay! You are a solid, true-blue, Azkal fan, and a diehard faithful. That other anonymous guy sound hillarious too. "...you done mix up football with curling..." that's original. Not that there's anything wrong with curling...or cricket, as maybe your other favorites, you know.

But seriously, Mr 50 yrs Sir, you've been around for a long while and you're still an idiot. Nothing in this world is free, didn't you notice? Of course people will always ply their trade wherever they are marketable or to whoever is the highest bidder. That's just the way it is in this world. Hey you got skills like them, go ahead knock yourself out, offer your services for FREE, you go, sir! Set up camp right next to the Younghusbands and plaster a huge banner that says "FREE WORLD CLASS FOOTBALL, CURLING and CRICKET SCHOOL HERE!" That would really be a nice thing instead of trashing the Younghusbands for doing what they gotta do.

Weather YOU like it or not, these dudes have made a DIFFERENCE in our footballing history in the PI, so try not to take that away from them. They earned their spot up there, you smuck, don't you see? They've hung around right from the git go, and stuck with the team at their darkest moments. You weren't there! You were in the UK or some gagfuck territory getting fat and mad at the world. You're still there, aren't you? Man, look at you. I feel sorry for you, SIR. Tsk...tsk...tsk.

We don't mind the "Younghusband" name at all. That name goes synonymous with the "Caligdong",the "Greatwich",the "Araneta",the "Sacapano", "Palami", "Bonifacio", "Ethridge", "de Jong", and all the other members of the Philippine Football National team, past and present!

But the Younghusbands and the other "half-breeds", these are combat multipliers. Of course the Philippine Teams needs them. We have improved largely because of them being around. If you can't accept that, you've got huge issues.

If the name "Younghusband" is eating you too much, I promise you, yours is probably the worst. We don't even want to dig further, I think I already know. (Not to steal your thunder Jay, but,) it's "stupidumbo", isn't it?

ill ask you guys a question:

how do you feel to be 2nd choice?
in your national media you guys seem to love the younghusbands like the went outa there way and chose the PI to come to live and work etc...

the fact of the matter is that they were unemployed in the UK as pro football players and no pro club wanted them because they are simply not that good.
So, rather than work 'normal' jobs in the UK cause their very short pro career's never got off the ground....

they instead go to the good old Philippines.
Because you guys and your media love half/pinoy mestiza men and woman who you can call your own.

The Brothers know that since their 1st choice of making it as a pro football player in Europe FAILED, the went for their 2nd back-up plan...... go to the PI.

They are two mercenaries who pretend they care about the PI (their 2nd choice)

and to be very clear....if they were a success in the UK....they would still be there.

Oh, im not 50....no where near that age.

yeah, football acadamys in the UK are free. you need to be of a certain ability though to attend.

    to conclude....

Angelica Panganiban and Mo Twister both have my concerns and these two brothers via their twitter pages.

and for the record, i like the PI...from their food to the culture. Also lived there too.

do you guys go on another forum cause this board is basic with layout and annoying to quote ppl etc...

  33. Kev, why is it you have to repeat yourself to make your point? You dont have to worry about us understanding you. You just need to say it once. Maybe because you cant understand or write english too well. Which is ironice dont you think? You with Your "Sir" Kev and attaching an MBE to boot. I sure as hell hope you are indeed English because if your not, your the biggest joke of this blog site. But thats ok, we here in the Philippines are very tolerant. Here you are posting on a Filipino blog spot lambasting our players Your not only taking a swipe on our football program which we never said was anywhere near world class. Your also taking a swipe on our dignity as a race as you refer to us settling on being 2nd choice and that we are so enamored with taking in half pinoys as our own. And dig this Johnny, he doesnt like the layout here. Since its "basic" and "annoying". And you expect us to believe you like the Philippines, for the record? Come on man, i cant ask you to stop the bullshit because theres so much of it its coming out of your mouth. And who do you bring to the table to back up your statements, these two celebrities who you think carry so much respect in this community. This Mo Twister, who proudly admitted farting on his talk show because he thinks he is so cool and such a gentleman as he gained notoriety due to his talking publicly about his sexual conquests. I dont like lambasting women so I will shut up about your other source of support. These are true authorities of morality and football in the Philippines. Bravo man..

Let me show you this link so i can expose some more bullshit you are stating here about academies being free: http://www.bcssa.co.uk/book_now.php Now Bobby Charlton is a true MBE which iam sure you wish to be someday (perhaps in another life). One of the most respected football players in history. But what is this? his academy charges 515 pounds (around 36,000 pesos) for a 5 day course? Is that your idea of free? What can we expect from someone who brings Mo twister as his corner man.

Look man, we never asked you to come to this 2nd rate country or this blog for that matter. You never answered my question about the Younghusbands being here when the going was really rough, when they were earning the same allowances as the rest of the team four years ago..Take you so called knowledge elsewhere as you are really going about it the wrong way in trying to tell us your so smart. Your just irritating people here and embarrassing yourself and your credibility. Try really hard and maybe you can read between the lines.

  36. HAHAHA. I dont know where to start. Ok, let me see. At least mine was a typo. But your spelling of racist is interesting. I'll take you on anytime in writing and speaking the english language. I hate stepping on ants but your asking for it.

Your not english. Then why use such a pretentious english name like Sir Kev d MBE? Keegan wasnt an MBE for your info, he has an OBE which still wont allow him to place "Sir"
in front oh his name. So you like things British but look down on us Filipinos by saying this: "Because you guys and your media love half/pinoy mestiza men and woman who you can call your own. " So you dont see any racial undertones by demeaning what filipinos like? And which "woman" are you referring to. HAHAHA. I wont expect you to get that. Ok let me show you more. "ill ask you guys a question:how do you feel to be 2nd choice?" So again, your implying filipinos settle for 2nd choice, why? because you're so superior that you would not ever settle for anything else than first choice. Your telling me not to bring it to that level? That is why I'am bringing it to this level is because you think were not educated enough to notice these things, you pig. Thats what it is about racists you know, they dont notice they are saying something offensive because it just slips out. I dont have strong feelings about the younghusbands hurt as you say (hard to decipher the way you explain things). I have strong feelings about a foreigner making assumptions about my cultural identity which he doesnt know anything about. When people call you "Joe", its not being a racist, its because they dont know what else to call you. It goes back to when there were a lot of G.I.'s here. Its not like calling people "bading" which is sexist. Which makes you both racist and sexist. hehehe. If they call you "Moron" then you should be concerned.

You still thinking your answering my question about the Younghusbands by giving us your version of them failing miserably in the UK and that is why they come here. Thats not an answer. My question was, these guys went home when there was nothing here and so how can you call them mercenaries? Shouldnt you go to a greener pasture precisely because its greener there? Until you have someone more credible than Mo twister and Angelica Panaganiban to prove they werent getting the same allowances as the rest of the Azkals in 2007 then your still full of shit in my book. Let me tell you, being on well fare in the UK would be a lot better than someone trying to look for work here as a professional football player in 2007. Now that they helped uplift the sport here in the Philippines, I really dont give a shit if they earn anything on the side.

I rest my case on Mo Twister as you feel he can lend you credibility, this same person who proudly farts on the air..

So Iam suppose to understand this statement differently: "yeah, football acadamys in the UK are free. you need to be of a certain ability though to attend." Again, I didnt understand because you have poor communication skills (and you talk to me about spelling - just because it sounds a certain way doesnt mean its spelled the same way.) There nothing wrong with the way I understand, try to write more coherently next time.

I understand that in the UK, if your good enough clubs will continue to train you for free but they have an agenda. Again, you dont need to tell me this. Thats what all the youth academy's in england do and its common knowledge. They intend to make money from these kids when the time comes (by selling them if they become good enough - Look how much Everton made out of Wayne Rooney - you dont think they factored in their bloated training costs when they signed him as a youth player in that 25.6 million pound transfer fee they asked for) so dont even start at their noble intentions. They get one kid who they can sell or use in their team, it will all be worth it.

So we talk about Sir Bobby. I know he's not a club. That link is for the Academy that was set up in his name. I would bet I know more about him than you do. You were referring to the Younghusbands this way: "I still have issiues with the brothers charging high fees for pinoy kids to learn football at their academy, most of whom cant afford....obviously exploiting the kids parents to pay.it should be free if they really care about your country."

Their are some dumb assumptions here(aside from bad spelling again, i really think you suck in english Kev, especially in spelling). Do you know where they established this Academy? Alabang Country Club. The kids who live in that area probably have more daily allowance from their parents than what most working adults (including me) in the Philippines earn. So you say most of these kids cant pay? Again, they are not saints. We never said they were. They invested their time and effort in something which is paying off now. The younghusbands charge so what difference is that to what footballers in the UK do? It has to be free you say? Thats your idea of free? what the UK club academy's do? You ask people who can afford to pay to shell out. Nothing wrong with that.

  38. And finally..

Let me react to this: Jay wrote "we never asked you to come to this 2nd rate country or this blog for that matter"

You didnt need to ask me to join, i just came on, now worries. interesting you call the PI a 2nd rate country.

I was being sarcastic but you dont get these subtle jabs. Its a British trait actually so Iam surprised you dont get it. Just like you dont get a lot of grown up things Iam explaining. I know darn well you just "came on" uninvited and like spending your spare time bashing our race and our so called preference for half whites (you really have it coming out of your pores). Thats why i was being sarcastic. To show you how low you are (but looks like I gave you too much credit, dont worry I wont make that mistake again).

Your an MBE? Are we talking about the same thing? Member of the Order of the British Empire? And your 35 and not British. I'll have to check if someone that young has ever been bestowed with such an honor. What did you do? lick the shit off some of royal asses? Until then, your still full of shit.

Now with use of "and" to begin a sentence. What can I say? you are pretty dense. I was talking to Johnny our gracious administrator (you ignorant fart) that on top of all these racist remarks, you think this site is basic and annoying. Imagine that, coming to a Filipino blog spot, to have that nerve. Unbelievable. Such confidence in your own nationality and you want to sound gracious after taking all those shots at us? If you ever create your own blog spot on any topic and it comes out No.1 when you do a key word search in google (i.e. Philippine football), then you have the right to comment like that. But until then, iam afraid you have been weighed but found wanting.

My chin has been up since the day I learned how to read, write and speak english which is something us Filipinos do easily, learning two or three languages. I dont presume i am good at it, just better than you.

  39. Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven’t been on for a week or so...

I have been away on official duties, for the most part.
When you are an MBE, some members don’t give back to society.
As for myself, I like to visit hospitals and institutions for the criminally insane.
I Share some stories I have with the patients and listen to what they have to say --- Sometimes I cant understand them though – Its a bit like listening to 'Jay' speak 'Taglish'
At least some of these criminally insane patients have an obvious excuse.

Im actually flying out to Japan next week to give a talk to some Japanese students. The weird thing is that its the University that beat the Azkals team 4-0 I think the score was.
It will be interesting to get some feed back from these students and I will promise to share them with you guys here.

Ill try and answer the questions of 'Jay'

Yeah, an MBE. Who said im not British? I said im not English but thats a very common mistake from people like yourself. Just to be clear here. There are 4 countries that make up the UK
Wales, Northern Ireland, Scotland and England. You are British if you are one of these.

Its a great Honour and I use it to help out society to the best of my ability.
To get and MBE you have to do some of 'outstanding ability/achievement'

you still used 'and' to start a sentence (wrong)....even if you were crying to a admin on here. (which sums you up as a person) – lame squealer.

You use the 'race card' because you have no real argument. The use of the race card--- by saying im racist (which im not) is very very low and such an easy thing to say. Shame on you.
I stated a fact. It is a basic blog site. Whats wrong about that statement?

" So you dont see any racial undertones by demeaning what filipinos like? And which "woman" are you referring to. HAHAHA. I wont expect you to get that.

Yes, Im not English. Why use that name?
Well, its my name. Its on my passport. (im concerned I will be visiting you in one of the institutions I visit) for asking such a ridiculous question. You will be treated the same though as the other patients there. You will hear my great stories of how I became an MBE and I will of course listen to your rubbish stories --- and smile politely, whilst asking the nurse if you have been taking your meds this week.

Lol@ Keegan I have no idea why you even mentioned him lol.
The guy is a fruit cake. Ive met him a few times.

I dont look down on Pinoys. Far from it.
Im actually saying that YOU....yeah you guys look down on pinoys who are not mestiza and that is a fact. You are just in total denial. Just ride an MRT down Edsa and look at every billboard. Count how many are a lovely Brown colour.

I bet you dont count many...if any at all.

“I have strong feelings about a foreigner making assumptions about my cultural identity which he doesnt know anything about. When people call you "Joe", its not being a racist, its because they dont know what else to call you. It goes back to when there were a lot of G.I.'s here. Its not like calling people "bading" which is sexist. “

Im not making assumptions. Im very familiar with the Philippines. I have lived in cities and also the Province. So, on that basis, I can back up what I say.
You obviously use Google as your basis for information on all things British....most of which you have proven to get totally wrong as pointed out above.
No, people call me Joe cause they think every guy from overseas White or Black is from the USA. Thats the basic answer. I know the history of the G.I.'s.....American G.I.s again, this is a fact. Damn shame actually.

Calling you bading isnt sexist at all. How do you work that out? Oh, your going back to using the 'race card' technique, except now your using the sexist card now. Grow up.

So if I called you 'straight' (which your obviously not) I would also be sexist --- im only using your logic here?? you wouldn’t last 2 mins outside the PI with that attitude.

You always go on about Mo Twister. Even more than I did lol.

He make a great point about how a 9-ball pro won a world title the same time the Azkals played Mongolia ( I think) but he wasnt even met at the airport by anyone or any media. Also, the boxer Donaire won a world title and he was over shadowed by the Azkals ....hmmm, you got to ask yourself why? You tell me. (internal racism *cough cough)

here is a lovely quote from a sensible PI news site.

“This speaks volume about the level of journalism we have in the country today. The line between headlines and entertainment news is quickly blurring. With Donaire's achievements as of late, news items on him choose to focus on his rift with his family. If the Azkals didn't have those half-Pinoy brothers, they would not be getting this much attention. Hell, I was surprised that Phil Younghusband's Twitter activities made it to the headlines!

Crab mentality? Hardly. If you think that's what this is, stop oversimplifying things and dig a little deeper and think about what I really want to say.”

yeah, I know the crab mentality there.....something you suffer from big time, kid.

    lol@Agenda
these 'kids' as you say were charged NO fee for being trained up to pro player level.

Yes, I know the area very well.
Which proves my point (you silly boy) about how they are not interested in improving the game in the PI. Instead they focus on the elite of the country. I said MOST of the kids in the PI cant pay because of this. So how does that help the PI football future?
I could write more about how dumb and infatuated with the younghusbands you are, but ill just drop to your level. You would not be into football and the Azkals if they were not in the team.

Lets face it, the Younghusbands use the Azkals as a side project. The media stuff they do is their priority.

    Thanks for listening everyone.
Im a true friend of the PI.
I find it easier to talk about certain dark spots of PI culture than some people.
Luckily, the PI has more positives than negatives.
People like Jay dont help though with such a negative and blinkered attitude.

p.s. I loved the fact Jay obviously typed a reply....went away and was still angry (arghhhh) then came back and added to his post twice lol. Classic.
    p.p.s.
You mentioned that I was too young to be an MBE
A 14 year old swimmer also got an MBE for outstanding achievements at the Olympics (this one slipped you when you Googled all your info that you use here......tsk tsk).

  47. Well look who the cat dragged back in. Wish it was good to see you back Kev and you dont have to be sorry for being out so long. People like you should stay away from the Philippines if you think your patronizingly fake attitude is a godsend in these parts. Again, you now seem to be clutching at straws to try to clarify all the bull you started out with. Just read what you originally put here old boy. You started this by bashing the Youunghusbands. And how we like to be 2nd choice. Geez, I could just cut and paste everything i wrote the first time to put all your excuses to shame. Ive never actually supported the idea of relying on filforeigners. So again, your so far off the point if you think Iam defending those "half pinoy" brothers and my feelings are hurt. You stink of racism Kev. It smells so bad I actually thought twice about replying because everything you say speaks volumes on its own. Now, you say this blog is just simply "basic" but you left out saying it was annoying too. I dont know where you come from, but its traditionally not very good form when you bash your host. Funny how you leave things out to prove your point. You call it being racist when someone calls you Joe but now you say you understand why. Do you still thinks its racist? Let's see, you started that whole issue about how the Younhghusbands academy and how it is in the UK being free. You said this: " I still have issiues with the brothers charging high fees for pinoy kids to learn football at their academy, most of whom cant afford....obviously exploiting the kids parents to pay." Then you said, " yeah, football acadamys in the UK are free. you need to be of a certain ability though to attend." You always tend to cut out the stuff that made you look a bit daft when you make your explanations. The way you wrote it you silly boy, implied that the kids at their academy couldnt afford to pay. But lets go down that road, how do you expect them to make a living? There isnt even a pro league here! Unless they learn to play basketball. So they didnt make it in the UK. Yes we get it. Do you know how much time they do spend trying to teach the poorer kids? I dont think so. I was never surprised about what pro clubs do in Europe. What i find surprising is that you think we dont know. You just used the wrong example and are trying to back track. About that oh so witty comment about you being 35 and being an MBE, I said, I would need to check if someone that young can actually be bestowed with such an honor. I hadnt actually checked but if i find time I will so its not something my search missed. Heck I didnt even search. Again, try to read your own language. If you used some other search engine, I wouldnt know. But since I said, "If you ever create your own blog spot on any topic and it comes out No.1 when you do a key word search in GOOGLE (i.e. Philippine football), then you have the right to comment like that". I dont know how clear that needs to be but obviously you always miss out details when you try to make excuses. And you think I am lame. You had a go at the Younghusbands and Etheridge, and you say we dont need these failed UK footballers. That goes to show how much you know about football in the Philippines which I been following since the 80's. Again so presumptuous.

    ReplyDelete
  48. lol@ 80's

    yeah, ok.

im glad you agree the Younghusbands are failed players.
Your media seems to love failed football players. dont you agree?

You seemed not to want to talk about all quetions i asked in my last post. lol. Denial?
i would like you to address my points on the internal racism in your country.

you just re-hashed previous points you made before. Which were all naive.

If your gonna reply, at least talk about the questions i put to you in my last post.

I talked about google as thats your only insight to outside the PI, which is pathetic really.
All my points are based on what i have seen with my own eyes. All your points are based on what you read and see on the net.
You need to learn and experience more about certain things before you talk about them.
Learn more about the 'race card'....and playing it when your defending yourself and how pathetic it is in doing so.

I found it amazing you didnt know how many countries made up the UK, by saying how could i be British if i wasnt English? lol. i noticed you didnt wanna talk about that, and you call me stupid? LOL.

    Take care everyone,

    Football master.....since the 80's

  49. Your right Kev, theres so many things I didnt answer because your reply was so disorganized and you notice how many times I came back. How many times did you repost? LOL. You dont seem to be replying to those points i did answer to. Anyway, let me look at what issues I missed out which you think Iam avoiding. Sir Kev the MBE is why I thought you were English and the connection to Kevin Keegan. You denied you were english but did you ever say anything about not being British AT THAT POINT? Read what you write for heavens sake. Since you didnt deny you were British until this last post, imagine why someone who wasnt British be given an MBE at a young age. He would have indeed have to have done a lot of royal ass licking. I never said you couldnt be British if you werent English. Where did I write that? Now do you get it? Next time, just tell us what nationality you are instead of just a snotty "Sure as hell not English".

Again you have got this feeling about us or the media loving failed football players. Again, what people have been trying to tell you, if you care to read and understand before mouthing off is we dont have a choice. I tried to explain it to you that we can "leapfrog" our steep learning curve by playing these filforeigners because we cant wait 10 years as you suggest. You said this was "just nuts". Read back old boy. Even these failed players as you call them still got years of top training we couldnt ever provide our own players. We dont love them because of the colors of their skin, its because we have no other players to field. Do you understand?

Look at our team. How many are actually professional? I would say its more than half now because the other professionals chose to stick it out with Div 2 and Div 3 teams and you dont seem to think much of the Indonesian league either. I guess that isnt a factor on why they are the Suzuki Cup Champs. (Again, you dont really give much to your credibility on how much you know about football). You are reacting because we think they are good and you say in your arrogant know it all manner they arent really because they cant get jobs in the UK as footballers. But good to whose standards? yours? You give too much credit on the level of football here in the Philippines. We never said they were saints and how they are going out of their way to play here. However, you cant say they flew the coop when the going got rough because they have been here since 2007 when results and support was non existent. And they were getting the same as everyone else. Show me proof they didnt. A lot of rehashed points which are naive? Thats all you have to say ? Its naive? I sounded surprised at what Pro clubs do in the UK? Quite the opposite as I said you were telling us anything new (again). I should open my eyes to what the rest of the world is doing but close it when it comes to the Younghusbands making money? If its rehashed its because they were adequate to answer you. I'll talk about internal racism in the next post. Gimme a a few minutes.

  50. OK, now let me take care of that issue on Dennis Orcullo and Donaire. These are individual sports and have a different dynamic versus a team sport which your source did not dwell on. When Bata and Diango won, they were glorified to high heavens and no one can complain about the lack of exposure they got. Why? Orcullo isnt as popular. It was the same with Alcano when he won the world title. He had a child abuse case. It sort of takes the gleam off the trophy if you know what I mean. Can you relate this to internal racism as Orcullo doesnt have fair skin? Have you seen Bata's toothless grin? Gimme a break. Coverage on Orcullo's victory was never covered by media precisely because he wasnt Bata or Diango so no one knew about it. By the way he was interviewed when he arrived I saw it. he busted the trophy so he couldnt display it. If you look at the billiard scene, orcullo is seen as the heir apparent but he will never have the same impact as Bata because the Philippines is already good if not the best in billiards. It has no impact. Unlike football which we had the undesirable record of having the biggest margin of defeat in Suzuki Cup history and suddenly beat the defending champions. It was the performance FIRST that opened the floodgate and then we now have the consequence of these people who got on the bandwagon due to the mestizo content. I'll get back to that, gimme a few more lines here.

Same issue with Donaire. He was the new darling of boxing for that few days after his spectacular victory but he screwed up big time because he was too media hungry and thought everyone would take his side in washing his dirty linen in public. He kept on answering questions about his family problems. I even commented in one of these blogs that Donaire should have hired a publicist. Nobody likes that kind of publicity and so people lost interest and football seemed a welcome reprise. He then made it worse by taking on the sports writers for all these issues blowing up. There would only be one winner at that point. He still continues to mess up by taking on Bob Arum on legal issues. Same promoter as Manny. Again bad move as Arum has been at Manny's side for so long, everybody knows him as the one who made Manny rich. If Donaire handled it properly, who knows how much more publicity he would get. Now that I mentioned Manny who can say how much more publicity we can give and still give to boxing. No matter how much good or bad publicity you do give Donaire, it will still pale in comparison. So many issue not mentioned why it is how it is, but they see it that its too much attention on the Azkals and football or what your saying as internal racism? You like football dont you? It does have its own magic, yes? If you decide to watch it more closely which a lot of people have now tried to.

  51. Now we go to your appalled reaction to our (Filipino Guys) preference for mestizas. Tell me is it any different in the UK in terms of models/actresses needing to be fair and beautiful? On another point, just like you like morenas, is it possible thats your preference as you dont see too many dark skinned women in the UK? Do you think that could be a factor why these ad agencies choose fair models because we dont see a lot of them around us? We see a lot more morenas so I would understand why guys would like to see a fair skinned filipina against a dark skinned one. Honestly, i dont think the color of the skin is the first thing a Filipino guy notices about a woman wearing a skimpy outfit and i really doubt the ad companies have that primarily in their mind either. In media, there are probably more mestizas than morenas true but again its not something you notice as would you actually be more interested in the newscaster rather than the news being shown. I cant see it as a result of internal racism.

You dont have a monopoly on basing things on facts and what you see in front of you. In fact you have so many contradictions yourself. I mean do you really feel anything offensive about being called Joe even if you now claim that you know what the locals actually mean? When did I speak taglish (although If I did, whats the big deal if I am speaking to a local?). Again, nothing youve said strikes me as remarkable even if you think i am actually naive about these things.

  52. By the way, call every gay person you meet "bading" and see if it isnt derogatory and sexist. Do you think its as subtle as calling someone gay? You also laugh about me talking about stuff that happened in Philippine football in the 80's which is about the time i started playing? I dont see whats so amusing abut that. I was just reacting to your statement that "You would not be into football and the Azkals if they were not in the team." Again, how in the world do you come up with me being infatuated with the younghusbands? What about this when you say, " I said MOST of the kids in the PI cant pay because of this". But this is what you actually blurted out earlier, without thinking about what your writing, "I still have issiues with the brothers charging high fees for pinoy kids to learn football at their academy, most of whom cant afford....obviously exploiting the kids parents to pay." Again, were talking about kids in the alabang country club but you wanted to sound like your making a huge point. You say now that proves its all about making money for them. So what are you saying they are not doing their part to training poorer kids? I see them doing the rounds just like the other members of the azkals. So its wrong to charge those who can afford to pay and that proves their mercenary ways?

You know I can try to get to your level of thinking about the Younghusbands, just like you can probably understand what I am trying to say on why they are even on the team. You should just try to edit your posts better so we can understand what you really mean. Just quit sounding so arrogant and patronizing ..
