ATENEO de Davao University's explosive striker Joana Marie Adao was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the recent Rizal Football Association (Rifa) Cup International Football Festival at the Ateneo de Manila in Loyola Heights, Quezon City.
The individual award handed out to Adao as the best performer in the tournament made it a double celebration for Ateneo, which also on the championship in the 12-under category over the Victory Christian International School-Philippine Army.
Adao scored the winning goal for Ateneo with five minutes remaining in the titular showdown that was played under a driving rain and sparked a joyous celebration for the Ateneo squad.
With the win, Ateneo de Davao dethroned Victory Christian International School and avenged the loss it suffered to the same team in last year's edition of the Rifa Cup.
Adao was also named MVP when Ateneo won its 4th straight crown in the 12-under division of the Alaska Cup last year, scoring all four goals in the finals. (CRAM)
