“I’m happy,” said Palami, adding that the Philippine Football Federation now has the list of 30 players from which the final 25 will be culled.
Palami said the core of the team that landed in the semis of the recent AFF Suzuki Cup will be around, including goalie Neil Etheridge, Chris and Simon Greatwich, Phil and James Younghusband, Rob Gier, Ray Jonsson, Jason de Jong, Anton del Rosario, Mark Drinkuth, Ian Araneta and skipper Aly Borromeo.
Etheridge and the others coming from Europe will arrive in Bacolod on Feb. 6, just in time for the match. The rest of the team leaves Manila for Bacolod on Jan. 26.
A few names, foreign sounding but with Filipino lineage have been added to the list, those of new European recruits Dennis Cagara, Jerry Lucena, Patrick Herget, John Hinrichsen, Oliver Potschke and Stephan Schrock.
“But it’s still premature to announce the final 25 because some of these new recruits aren’t good enough yet for the team. Medyo hilaw pa. And they’re still working on their (Philippine) passports,” Palami said.
The others in the initial list are Jerry Barbaso, Yanti Barsales, Joebel Bermejo, Emelio Caligdong, Chris Camcam, William Espinosa, Mark Ferrer, Roel Gener, Peter Jaligan (Jaugan ?), Nestor Margarse, Rey Palmes, Kristopher Relucio, Jason Sabio and Eduard Sacapano.

I really wonder where all your informations are coming from. Some of the European player who are mentioned to fly don't even know that they are flying. And some don't even have any plan to fly. It's just like the news that some 6 players from Europe will arrive last January 16,, did they arrive here in Manila? In some players mentioned, nothing is even organise, but the news was already spread that they are coming.I think a lot of what is out in the news are just purely invented. For all we know a lot of the names mention who is coming from Europe is not coming. We Filipinos are really champion in publicity. We better concentrate on Football, improve our performance in the field and not in the media.
ReplyDeleteTwo players mentioned in this article Jerry Lucena and Dennis Cagara not only have to solve dual citizenship and passport issues but because they played for the Danish youth teams, also have to apply for a one time switch with FIFA in affiliation from Denmark to the Philippiines. I doubt very much if you can accomplish all this with less than 3 weeks to go.
ReplyDeleteWatch out, the media will come up immedately with some kind of reasoning when the time comes and the players mentioned have not arrived. The best example alone is the January 6 news. Where are are players mentioned,,why haven't they arrived? Contract players cannot decide by themselves to play somewhere else. It is stated in every contract where money is envolved,, and thse players are paid by their specific clubs. The European players who are now and are sure to play for the Philippines are not contract players of any Club. Thats the very reason why they just can fly over to us here in Manila. For example Germany,, the standard of a good football player is very high. And am sorry to say that some of these players who came to us from Germany knows they don't have a chance in the German league, thats why they are here. I think our scouting method has to undergo "renovation".
ReplyDeleteCorrections on this article:
ReplyDeleteMark Drinkuth was not at the semis of the Suzuki Cup. He was at the qualifiers but did not play.
He also has declared on his facebook that he will be leaving today and therefore did not make the team for the AFC Challenge Cup. It is possible he will be considered for the U-23 team in the future however.
Patrick Herget is also going home to Germany but has said that he has made the U-23 and will be back
ReplyDeletefor the SEA games.
