Davao Football - Hooligans escapes past KMMPC, 5-4

LEAGUE leader Hooligans Football Club escaped past Kilusang Magkaibigan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KMMPC), 5-4, in the resumption of the Philippine Sports Commission-Davao Football Association (PSC-DFA) Challenge Cup 2014 Sunday at the Tionko field.
Both teams were tied at 4-all when KMMPC defender Richard Mortillero, who was chasing a Hooligans attacker, accidentally kicked the ball to his own goal.
Columbia FC also improved its record by thrashing Philippine College of Technology (PCT)-Medvil, 3-0.
PCT-Medvil playing-coach Ramonito "Lalas" Carreon, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said, "It was the team's worst performance in four games. In past games, we lost but we gave a good fight unlike yesterday, all of us were off."
Hooligans stayed on top of the team standings with a clean three-win, zero-draw, zero-loss card while Columbia retained its second position with a 2-0-1 mark followed by 1-0-3 PCT-Medvil and 0-0-3 KMMPC.
Games will resume on Sunday in the bootfest that serves as qualifying for the Davao Region Smart Interclub set sometime in August. (MLSA)

FOUR division A teams of Davao City will battle for honors in the first
 Philippine Sports Commission-Davao Football Association (PDC-DFA) 
Challenge Cup 2014 that kicks off today at the Tionko field.

The Philippine College of Technology (PCT)-Medvil Football Club,
 Hooligans FC, Kilusang Magkaibigan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KMMPC) FC 
and Columbia FC are entered in the double round-robin bootfest that will be
 played every Sunday until July.

PCT-Medvilcollideswtih Columbia FC at 2 p.m. while Hooligans clashes 
against  KMMPC at 4 p.m.

PCT-Medvil coach Ramonito “Lalas” Carreon, in text messages to Sun.Star
 Davao,  said they will try their best to capture the title, “Very crucial ang 
games kaykusogtanankalaban, (Games will be crucial since teams are
 strong forcesto reckon with)."

Carreon said they hold a 50 percent chance of winning but added they will 
exert 100 percent effort to put up a stiff competition.

If the top team after the games will have a three-point lead and more 
from the second-placer, it will be declared champion. Otherwise, 
a championship game will be held with the top squad having a 
twice-to-beat advantage.

The champion will represent Davao City to the Davao Region Smar

PWC crowned women's football champion

THE Philippine Women's College (PWC) was crowned champion at the close of the 2nd DFA Women's Open Football League held at Tionko field recently.

PWC edged Ateneo de Davao High School, 4-3, in their titular showdown.

Ateneo Davao High School settled for the runner-up honors while D' Davao Survivors placed third following a 3-2 win over Davao-SOS FC in the bootfest organized by the Davao Football Association.

Cherry Vilchez netted two goals for PWC in the seventh and 55th minutes as Jun Mae Bunac and July Bunac added goals in the 71st and 77th, respectively, to secure the title.

Nina Alexi Arrieta, meanwhile, scored Ateneo's hat trick in the 13th, 15th and 20th.

Ateneo Davao High School's Janna Barcemo was named most outstanding player while teammates Gabby del Fierro and Bea de Luna were hailed best goalkeeper and best defender, respectively.

PWC's Jhekai Cantila and Vilchez also received individual awards. Cantila took the best midfielder title while Vilchez got the best striker honors.

Edge Outdoors' Daryl Valdez awarded the trophies and medals to the winners of the competition supported by Hinex Janitorial and Allied Services, Edge Outdoors and Taku Football Foundation. (MLSA)

PWC posts two wins in DFA women's open

DEFENDING champion Philippine Women's College (PWC) lived up 
to its billing by 
hacking out two wins at the start of the 2nd Davao Football Association 
(DFA) Women's 
Open Football League at the Tionko football field over the weekend.

PWC crushed Ateneo de Davao University-High School, 6-1, 
on Sunday behind a hattrick
 from Cherry Vilchez on the 14th, 18th and 52nd minutes.
 July Anne Bunac chipped in two goals and Jhekai Cantila 
added one goal to complete the rout. Ma. 
Inah Junessa Rosales netted Ateneo High School's goal on the 72nd.

This came on the heels of a 5-0 thrashing victory over Hinex Football
 Club on Saturday. 
Joy Rivera (32nd, 36th) and Bunac (42nd, 45th) led the charge by 
hitting two goals each 
as Cantila (19th) made one goal in the bootfest organized by the DFA 
and backed up by 
Taku Football Foundation, Edge Outdoor, Hinex Janitorial & 
Allied Services, Instatech, 
and San Iker Garments.

The SOS-Davao FC, meanwhile, blanked Hinex FC, 5-0, to bounce 
back from a 2-4 opening loss at the hands of D' Davao Survivors (D'DS). 
Agot Danton (15th, 38th) and 
Princess Cuabo (55th, 65th) kicked two goals each and 
Keith Shelly Canton 
secured the fifth goal.

D'DS strikers Rachelle delos Reyes (80th, 87th), Nini Ricci Yanto (56th) 
and Analou Ingles (52nd) netted the needed goals for the win over 
SOS-Davao FC.

Medvil FC to scout new players

THE Medvil Football Club of Davao City will scout new players for the next Suzuki Cup 
U-23 having finished second in the recent edition held in Dumaguete City.

Head coach Ramonito "Lalas" Carreon, during the Davao Sportswriters 
Association (DSA) Forum at the Tower Inn held Thursday at Dexter's Pizza
 Stadium in Matina said that their biggest asset was their goalkeeper 
Dominador Tato IV who was then named Best Goalkeeper of the tournament.

Carreon also said there is a need to scout and recruit taller players.

The team was short of these when they played defending champion 
Ceres-Negros Occidental Football Association (Nofa) in the championship match.

He, however, praised his players for giving their best in the event.

The team was also composed of Jomar Acedo, Ed Merill Walohan, 
Fracis Jay Abalunan, Frances Jay Abrasaldo, Amani Manuel Aguinaldo, 
Jerard Bierneza, Khadaffy Biruar, David Angelo Diamante, 
Derrico Gabriel Diamante, Jestoni Felipe, Yoshiharu Koizumi, 
Danilo Lascuña Jr., Renz Rhey Napuran, Michael Pantojan,

Medvil-Davao plays NoCot

MEDVIL Football Club of Davao City collides with North Cotabato Football Association (Nocofa) at 8:30 a.m. today (Tuesday) in the semi-finals of the ongoing Philippine Football Federation-Suzuki Cup Under-23 National Cup at the Perdices Memorial Coliseum in Dumaguete City.
The Ramonito "Lalas" Carreon-coached Medvil-Davao finished second in Group B that was considered the Group of Death with two wins and one loss following a recent 3-0 shutout victory against Zamboanga del Norte-Dipolog in the eliminations over the weekend. Thus, the Dabawenyos are facing the Group A No.1 team Nocofa in the crossover semis.
Ed Merill Walohan, Yoshiharu Koizumi and Jerard Birneza knocked in goals in the 19th, 35th and 81st minutes, respectively.
Koizumi, whose head was bandaged during the game due to an injury suffered from a 1-0 opening game against Masbate, was the one who passed the ball for Birneza to score Medvil-Davao's third goal.
Carreon, in text messages to Sun.Star Davao, said that Nocofa is composed mainly of players from M'lang. They have defeated M'lang in all their past encounters since coaching the Davao squad in 2008.
Juven Benitez, who is playing for M'lang, had a stint with Davao 23 team in 2011.
"Our boys are ready. They are in good shape and determined to win. We will be reinforced by Michael Nehemiah T. Simms who arrived from Manila last Saturday," Carreon said.
The multi-titled coached said Simms, a student at the University of the Philippines Diliman and a grassroots product of Davao, is a good influence to the rest of the Davao players citing his confidence.
He added if there is a problem with the psychological aspect of the players, Simms can very well turn things around with his optimism.
Carreon, however, said he is leaning on the leadership of Jomar M. Acedo as captain of the squad. The latter, according to him, is "a very silent team captain but very influential inside the field."
Acedo, a midfielder, also covers most positions, even defense and is very consistent with what he does in every game.
Derrico Gabriel R. Diamante and his brother David Angelo Diamante, Francis Jay G. Abalunan, Frances Jay S. Abrasaldo, Imardino B. Polo, Khadaffy Biruar, Renz Rhey T. Napuran, Amani Manuel S. Aguinaldo, Danilo Lascuna Jr., Michael Pantojan and Jestoni R. Felipe complete the Medvil-Davao roster.

Ateneo girls place 2nd in Thirsty Cup

HIGHLY-touted Ateneo de Davao University bowed to San Carlos City, 0-1, in their finals to finish runner-up in girls 14 event of the just concluded 10th Thirsty Football Cup at the Abellana Sports Center in Cebu City.

Ateneo coach Rachelle delos Reyes, in an e-mail, said San Carlos City striker Issa 
Carmona hit a strong ground ball shot just outside the penalty box as Ateneo's 
goalkeeper Chiyo Marasigan failed to stop it. The Ateneo girls then made a few 
attempts to equalize but fell short. Carmona was named division most valuable player.

Ateneo, also coached by Julio Orcasitas Jr., succumbed to a 0-2 loss opposite 
San Carlos Football Club in the semi-finals.

In Group 1 eliminations, Ateneo blanked Harvest FC, 2-0, then won on the 
same note against Phoenix FC and St. Therese College.

Ateneo then hacked out a 2-0 win over CIS Dragons in the quarter-finals.

"We are satisfied with the result since our team played well against other teams,"
 Delos Reyes said.

She praised the efforts of players Marasigan, Joannah Marie Adao,
 Nica Zsanovy Mari Balahay, Michaela Louise Co, Angela Bea de Luna, 
Bea Felice Panganiban, Kyra Noelle Paronda, Ma. Inah Junessa Rosales,
 Leah Therese Reyes, Patricia Erica Francisco and Luisa Uy.

The same team also competed in girls 17 category where they lost to 
St. Therese College, 0-1, in the Round of 16. Junior and senior players of 
the squad didn't play to attend their JS Prom.

In the ladies open, D' Davao Survivors-Hinex was beaten by 
Don Bosco Ladies, 3-4, via pentaly shootout in the Round of 16.

Medvil Cup opens at DHRR tomorrow

NINE teams will compete in the Medvil Cup football tournament set to kick off on Saturday at the Deca Homes Resort Residences (DHRR) soccer field.
Davao Football Association (DFA) general secretary Erwin Protacio said Calinan Football Club (FC), Calinan Blue Eagles, Impeeza, Mintal Inter Rage, Real Davao, Holy Child FC, Oi Rogers, Philippine Women's College and Medvil FC are seeing action in the single elimination format tournament.
"Games will be held on Saturdays and holidays in the 11-A-Side event for division 2 teams," Protacio told members of the Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) during their weekly forum held at Dexter's Pizza Stadium in Matina on Thursday.
Other teams participating in the Medvil Cup are also entered in the ongoing Davao Football Community (DFC) League that is being held every Sunday at the Davao Crocodile Park. (MLSA)

U16 girls football kicks off Saturday

FIVE teams will battle for honors when the 2nd DFA U16 Girls Football League kicks off on Saturday at the Faith Academy field, Marfori Heights Subdivision, Davao City.

Davao Football Association (DFA) women's committee chairperson Rachelle "Ching" delos Reyes, in an e-mail to Sun.Star Davao yesterday, said Faith Academy will field two teams in the 11-A-Side tournament. Completing the cast are Ateneo de Davao University, SOS Children's Village and Hinex teams.

Opening games will pit Ateneo against Hinex at 9:30 a.m. and SOS against Faith Academy B at 11 a.m.

A friendly match between Miriam College of Manila and Faith Academy is set at 8 a.m. before official games start.

Over at the Tionko field, Miriam Colleg will play Ateneo in another exhibition game at 2 p.m.

Delos Reyes said the league will be played in accordance with the applicable rules of Fifa, PFF and DFA.

Games will be played every Saturday until March 16 but organizers will hold games on Feb. 22, a Friday, since it is the Edsa Revolution holiday.

"Teams will play the single elimination round where the top two squads will advance to the championship game while the third and fourth teams will play for third,"delos Reyes said.

In case of a tie in the eliminations, the tiebreaker system shall be observed based on goal difference, the number of goals scored for, number of goals scored against, winner over the other or sudden death penalty.

2nd Tionko memorial football Cup kicks off

THE 2nd Vicenta Tionko Memorial Cup kicks off at 8 a.m. today, Saturday, at the Tionko football grounds.
Davao Football Association (DFA) general secretary Erwin Protacio said games will start right after the opening ceremonies to be graced by members of the Tionko family and DFA officials.
Some 50 teams are expected to join the one-day seven-A-side bootfest that features the boys 16-under, boys and girls 14-under, boys 12-under and boys 10-under categories.
"We are holding this tournament to pay tribute, recognition and gratitude to a person who has made a great contribution to football in Davao City," Protacio said in a recent guesting at Davao Sportswriters Association (DSA) Forum.
Each team, which shall be composed of 12 players, must bring photocopies of players' birth certificates at the playing venue so as not to be disqualified.
DFA, meanwhile, also lined up upcoming events like the Sakya Fil-Chi Cup in celebration of the Chinese New Year on Feb. 16 and the Mindanao Regional Festival of Football on March 1 to 3 in separate venues here.
Davao City's U-23 football team is also preparing for the Suzuki Cup Mindanao Finals set sometime in March or April against Iligan, Dipolog and M'lang. (MLSA)

Davao Football - Medvil, KMMPC down rivals

THE Medvil FC and Kilusang Magkaibigan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KMMPC) scored contrasting wins at the start of the second round of the Philippine Sports Commission-Davao Football Association (PSC-DFA) Premier League 1st Division on Sunday at the Tionko field.
Medvil beat Hooligans FC, 5-3, behind Frances Abrasaldo's back-to-back goals. His Medvil teammates Jomar Acedo, Jeffril Cabral and Raymon Padeda chipped one goal each.
Hooligans scorers were Ruelfred Napuran, Roland Manabit and Jayric Iligan.
KMMPC, meanwhile, hacked out a rousing 9-3 win over Blue Knights FC as Jerald Bierniza sizzled with six goals and Warren Ravanes added a hat trick to complete the rout.
In the main game, Francisco Iligan lifted Columbia FC's 2-1 victory over Philippine National Police (PNP) FC. Iligan's goal in the 88th minute broke the 1-1 standoff of both teams.
PNP's Manuel Aspelega started the ball rolling with a goal in the 17th but Al Dinn Tiboron countered late in the 70th to force the deadlock.

Columbia, Hooligans post Premier League victories

THE Columbia FC and Hooligans FC posted contrasting wins in the resumption of the Philippine Sports Commission-Davao Football Association (PSC-DFA) Premier League 2012 Sunday at the Tionko Football Field.
Columbia FC turned back the Philippine National Police ( PNP) FC, 3-1, for their third straight win. Al Dinn Tiboron led Columbia FC with two goals including the winning goal in the 88th minute. Francisco Iligan scored Columbia's first goal. PNP's Rene Valdesco netted the team's only goal in the bootfest sanctioned by DFA.

Hooligans FC, meanwhile, routed Blue Knights FC, 14-2, to barge into the winning column after a debut loss.
Jayric Iligan sparked Hooligans FC with four goals while teammates Marlon Demapanag and Mark Bugay added two goals each. The rest of the scorers were Allan Rey Fernandez, Bal Angelo Morato, Patrick Asoque, Christian Hager, Rocky Custodio and Jacinth Ibanez.
Medvil FC also gained with a 1-0 victory over Kilusang Magkaibigan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KMMPC) FC to improve to a 2-1- win-draw-loss card. Vince Jan Olsar Zarta saved the day for Medvil by hitting a goal in the 87th. (RPSA)

THE Columbia football club (FC) and Kilusang Magkaibigan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KMMPC) FC posted contrasting wins in the recent resumption of the Philippine Sports Commission-Davao Football Association (PSC-DFA) Premier League 2012 at Tionko football field.
Columbia FC shuthout Blue Knights FC, 6-0, behind the hat trick of Al Dinn Tiboron in the 24th, 33rd and 42nd minutes as Edwin Giganto added two goals and Imardino Polo chipped in one goal.

KMMPC FC, meanwhile, entered the winning column after beating Hooligans FC, 6-3, courtesy of Jerome Balaga and Warren Ravanes who netted two goals each. Teammates Danny Boy Fernandez and Gerald Saki hit one goal apiece.
Hooligans FC's scorers were Patrick Asoque, Ruelfred Napuran and Jason Mortillero.
Medvil FC and Philippine National Police (PNP) FC, for their part, force a 2-2 draw.
PNP striker Rene Valdesco started the ball rolling with a goal in the 63rd but Medvil countered with back-to-back goals from Mark Paul Dayanan (69th) and Francis Jay Abrasaldo (72nd), to take a 2-1 lead. Valdesco, however, sealed a goal in the 84th for the equalizer.
Games will resume Sunday pitting Medvil FC against KMMPC FC, Hooligans FC against Blue Knights FC and Columbia FC against PNP FC. (RPSA)

Davao Football - Medvil eyes second win

MULTI-TITLED Medvil Football Club (FC) will try to secure its second win when the Philippine Sports Commission-Davao Football Association (PSC-DFA) resumes on Sunday at the Tionko football grounds.
Medvil, which hacked out a 3-0 win over Ateneo de Davao University Blue Knights in the opener last weekend, will collide with the Philippine National Police FC at 1:30 p.m.

Medvil strikers Jomar Acedo and Joey Arobo are expected to lead the charge for the Rafael "Pops" Vilela-managed team.
Columbia, a 4-2 winner over Kilusang Magkaibigan Multi-Purpose Cooperative (KMMPC), will test the mettle of Blue Knights FC in the 8 a.m. curtain raiser.

Columbia FC, meanwhile, downed Kilusang Magkaibigan Multi-Purpose Cooperative , 4-2.

Davao football body probes punching incident

THE Davao Football Association (DFA) is conducting an investigation on the punching incident during the semi-finals of DFA Men's 2nd Division Football League held Sunday at the Tionko Football Field.

DFA officials identified the violator as Rodelo Montuya, a player of PTA Boys, who punched referee Jet Fernandez after the latter issued a red card on Montoya in the 68th minute of their match against Davao Crocodile FC.

After taking the punch, Fernandez ordered his fellow referees to abandon the game leaving the first game unfinished while the second game was not played.

DFA technical director Albert Ryan Lim, in a phone conversation with Sun.Star Davao, said they are still looking into the incident as they also need to get the sides of both Montoya and Fernandez.

"Magkuha pud mi ug statement sa mga witnesses para mas daghan mi ug information. Dili man gyud mi maka-decide dayon kung unsa iyang sanction. Ihan-ay namo ni nga isyu as soon as possible (We will have yet to get statements from witnesses and settle the matter immediately)," Lim said.

Tournament chair Julio Orcasitas, in an interview after the incident, said: "Sa ako nangita naay mali pud ang official sa tawag na iyang gihatag kay Montoya pero dili pud siguro enough nga rason to para manumbag si Montoya (I think the official made a mistake on his call against Montoya but it doesn't justify the punching that followed)."

Orcasitas also said Montoya may be facing suspension for a particular period while the referees may also be sanctioned for abandoning the games which led to the delay of the semi-finals.

Solido Fil-Chi United team manager and player Buboy Arrieta expressed his dismay towards the actuations of the referees saying: "They could have just stopped the game between Crocodile FC and PTA Boys but continued to officiate in our game against Instatech FC. They could have stayed professional on that incident."

Arrieta added some players are not from Davao City. They just came for the games.

Semis games will be announced as soon as the investigation has been resolved and sanctions have been imposed on erring parties.

THE Davao Crocodile FC and the Instatech FC turned back their respective rivals in the resumption of the Davao Football Association (DFA) Men's 2nd Division Football Cup 2012 at the Tionko Football field.
Davao Crocodile FC blanked PTA Boys, 1-0, courtesy of a penalty goal from Mari Cabalfin in the 37th.

Instatech FC, meanwhile, zeroed in on the hapless Belisario Futbol, 2-0, behind the goals of Chungwoo Han in the 58th and 77th.
Solido Jr., for its part, defeated the winless Garelli FC, 3-2, for its first win in the bootfest organized by DFA under its president Edward Lam. (RPSA)

PWC, UP-Min down rivals in Women's Open Football

THE Philippine Women's College (PWC) and University of the Philippines-Mindanao (UP-Min) downed their respective opponents in the Davao Football Association (DFA) Women's Open Football League that resumed Monday at the Tionko Football field.
PWC edged D' Davao Survivors (DDS), 3-2, to halt the latter's winning streak to three. DDS held an early lead courtesy of Ching Delos Reyes and Wowie Satorre, who scored goals in the 19th and 40th, respectively.

PWC, however, rallied back in the second half and went on to win the game behind the goals of July Anne Bunac (79th), Cherry Mae Vilchez (81st) and June Mae Bunac (87th).
UP-Min, meanwhile, turned back the Ateneo de Davao University-College (AdDU-College), 5-3, for its first victory.
The goal scorers for UP-Min were Princess Cuabo (42nd and 48th), Merlo Albano (31st), Glaiza Tabanao (7th) and Mace Ester Vilela (70th).
The AdDU-College was playing against SOS Children's Village while Medvil FC is facing UP-Min as of presstime.
