MANILA, Philippines—Three Filipino-Europeans are arriving on January 15 to try out for the Philippine National Football Team called the Azkals that will play Mongolia in a home-and-away series in the Asian Football Confederation Challenge Cup in February.

The Philippine Daily Inquirer has received information that the players are Mark Drinkuth, Patrick Hergert and Mark McMahon.

They were among several promising Fil-foreigners who met with Azkals team manager Dan Palami in Frankfurt where Palami was scheduled to meet with officials of the German Football Federation in an effort to seek the association's help in boosting football in the Philippines.

Outstanding midfielder Dennis Cagara whose mother is a Filipina nurse and father a Nigerian has reportedly expressed interest in playing for the Philippines but according to an Inquirer source, Cagara might not be able to because Danish professionals "can't have dual citizenships."

The source told the Inquirer that another player Jerry Lucena was not there "but he was represented by Dennis Cagara and he said he is willing to play for the Azkals."

  1. This guy should stop writing about football.."the football team called the Azkals"..geez, is that news? He didnt even do any research to say where all these fil-foreigners play. Outstanding midfielder? What makes him outstanding when you dont even know where he plays? It so typical for him him to use these superlatives when he doesnt even know or seen the player in action. Is ths the quality of articles the Inquirer churns out these days?
