DAVAO City's campaign in the National Women's Selection Tournament got off to a bad start as the lady booters suffered a 0-1 heartbreaking defeat to Iloilo in the Under-19 division Saturday afternoon at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod City.
The Davao booters played tough defense all throughout the match, but just could not stop Iloilo's strike during injury time to absorb their first defeat in the six-team field.
Davao Football Association (DFA) secretary and head of delegation Erwin Protacio said Davao was forced to play defense in the face of an all-out Iloilo attack. He said Iloilo made more attempts at the goal than Davao, with two of them hitting the crossbar.
Protacio said he is hoping for a big rebound for the team in the second match, which was scheduled late Sunday afternoon against Negros Oriental.
