POWERHOUSE Crazy Horse edged out the younger University of San Carlos (USC), 3-2, in the opening match of the Cebu Amateur Football Club 10th National Interclub Football Cup yesterday at the USC-Technological Center.
The match was fairly competitive despite the deep roster of Crazy Horse that was boosted by a couple of veteran former RP national team players.
Former RP team member Boyet Cañedo drew first blood as he scored the first goal just 10 minutes left before halftime. Another ex-RP team player, Joshua Figedero, who is also the former coach of USC, added another goal for a 2-0 lead.
However, Kyle Soriano counterattacked and shaved the lead to 2-1 just before the half.
In the second half, Figedero got on fire and he added another for a 3-1 count before a determined Soriano fueled his team with a last-minute goal.
“Most of them are college freshmen but they played fairly well against Crazy Horse, “ said Don-Don Ramos, who took over the coaching duties of USC for Gary Panagsagan.
Meanwhile, M. Lhuillier started strong in the Players 10 Division with an 8-0 win over host Springdale with two players scoring a hat trick
Archie Gemina and Kenneth Domingo had three goals each while Julbert Arias had two. M. Lhuillier will next face San Roque FC B on Tuesday, while Springdale will face SRFC A on Monday.
In the Boys 17 division, favorites Abellana National School-Pomeroy and Springdale are off to a hot start.
ANS-Pomeroy beat Blessed John XXIII Seminary, 4-1; while Springdale routed USC, 9-0.
