Two-goal Socceroo blanks Armymen to stay clear of UFL drop zone

By Karlo Sacamos
SOCCEROO strengthened its bid to stay in Division 1 of the United Football League as it blanked a Philippine Army side missing its top goalkeeper, 2-0, on Thursday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.
Park Yi Young and Cleopas Beleu-Ebi Timi struck a goal each for the newly promoted side, which increased its point sum to 13 points to move just four points behind its seventh-running victims.
The result also puts further pressure on idle relegation-threatened Pasargad, which dropped seven points behind Socceroo.
Park unlocked the porous Army defense in the 66th minute when the Korean struck on a left-footed finish.
Timi sneaked in a second goal for the Division 1 rookies two minutes after injury time to frustrate a Troopers side without Ed Sacapaño.
The national team goalkeeper is on loan to Division 2 leader Ceres-La Salle, which is representing the country in the Asian Football Confederation President's Cup.
