Go Philippines!
ReplyDeleteBritain is on Summer Time; match starts 5 pm.
ReplyDeleteI BELIEVE!
ReplyDelete1-0 Palestine.............that was it..........it doesn't seem that the Azkals will come back...and like usual: SEA teams have all problems with Middle Eastern teams
ReplyDeletewhen Philippines will play wid d VERY BEST PLAYERS.. not lwid SATO, DE JONG, STEUBLE and so on!.. THEN they can qualiFy :)
ReplyDeleteshut up now with very best players. you sound like hans michael effing weiss. shut up already. sato, de jong and steuble made a good account of themselves.
Deletestrange tactic though in the first half... philippines too scared to get near the ball.
Only Muller and Shrock are good enough to take the Azkals anywhere; the rest are so ordinary it's painful.
ReplyDeleteI am no fan of Palestine but I have to admit that the best won the cup.....I mean they didn't conceived any goal in their 5 matches so they deserved....even it is bitter for us as it was never so easy to qualify for an Asian Cup final....I mean after the abolishment of the Challenge cup you have to go through the regular qualifiers which is quite unpossible with all the powerhouses and other strong teams
ReplyDeleteatleast we will get to play with quality opponents and not have to go through a crappy tournament with crappy countries. Maldives is a beautiful country but this tournament was shit house - logistical nightmare.
DeletePalestine got through only because 2 Afghani players were injured in the bus accident. Their keeper got hurt there.
i agree that Maldives was not the best location to hold such a tournament....maybe we would have won this in the Philippines.....Hm, it's hard to say because 2 injured players made the difference.....even though their goalie from German Regionalliga is a good one. Too bad we got the goal by a free kick.....if ourt players would be 10 cm taller then it wouldn`t happen
DeleteEven if you put Shaquile O'Neal in the wall that free kick would still have gone in. It went high above the wall then bent towards the left post. That was sheer class.
DeleteAnonymous you are right. Some players were not ripe for AFC Challenge Cup and the coach used wrong tactics and players. Why for sample jerry lucena came so late inside ( azkals through him became in some case better )? Why Michael Kempter from FC Zurich was not invited for Azkals? Old unserious players instead like Simon Greatwich , Anton del Rosario took places away from other better players. Hope Mr. Weiss will come back and remove this players again. Can alos someone tell me what is so special with Martin Steuble?
ReplyDeleteMartin Steuble provided the pass that resulted in the second goal vs Turkmenistan. I don't know what you have against him, Paul Weiler.
DeleteI agree there are some questionable decisions in player selections. Mike Ott would have made a huge contribution if he was invited. Angel Guirado might have been the difference vs Palestine because of his size. Patino would have been able to squeeze a goal or two with his ability.
For sure Mike Ott would have upgraded the level, I also don`t know why his brother isn`t invited anymore..I am curious if he will be invited later on when the qualifiers etc start (which fall then on FIFA match days)..he played regular in his club...Patino was really missed....you can thank Buriram for not releasing him....
Delete1 good pass in 1 game is not really good enough ;) Agree Angel through his physical power could made a huge difference if he was available. Also Mike Ott had maybe some more quality of passing and shots from distance. Fact is there are some questions which have to be answered in future. Some tactics with wrong players were unlogic from my point of view. And also yes to get Patino was a management task. Why in his contract a status was not included that he can play in such top tournaments? PFF had to take care about this and to advice the player, but it not happened.
ReplyDeleteI understand the critic. Why Azkals did not play with the best players, it was possible. Does Mr. Palami and PFF has no money anymore to get such players?
We, the Philippines, fielded the best team possible to get in this position, the AFC Challenge Cup championship game. If the selection of coaches and players were bad, we wouldn't have reached this honor of playing the championship match. Unfortunately, the best team who plays will have a better chance of winning. We proved that against Maldives. Unfortunately, Palestine proved it against us. Filipinos and Azkal fans should be thankful and must look at the 2nd place finish with honor as we have never been in a situation like this before.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Coach Dooley, Dan Palami and the PHL Azkals for accomplishing another milestone in Philippine soccer history. Thanks to all of you for supporting Filipino football!
Sato is OK but he is very shaky in defense. Hes good when it comes to attack maybe he should be a midfielder, he can sit on the bench and be 3rd in the rotation. LOL.
ReplyDeleteCagara and De Murga were sorely missed. Sabio would have been a good CB to partner with Gier. And they should think about finding a replacement for the ageing Gier. And no, it is not Amani Aguinaldo. He is just too mediocre, a lot of missed tackles, gave a freekick vs Maldives and nearly gave another today with his double foot stomp I can't believe the ref missed that. He is always out of position and does not have the right skills to defend against a tricky forward like Ashfaq and that Palestinian guy.
I think it was a good result. Imagine a country with no football pedigree reaching the finals. I think by 2019 we can justify our entry to AFC Asian Cup coz we will have strong domestic league and grasroot and national squad. Not like now, which is all heritage players. Put things in perspective
ReplyDeleteWe only poached our way in. Hoping for a stronger domestic league and a real youth system.
DeleteIt will not be on 2019, coz our local pure blooded boys are not that good on laying football yes to grassroot but also believe in or half breed pedigree that's I u are rooting for 2019.
DeleteLucena and Juani were sorely missed in the defense. Although Palestine was the better team most of the times we will never know what will happen if we have gone to extra time just like when we played against Maldives. Wheeew, if not for that very bad decision making of de Jong which resulted to the free kick.
ReplyDeleteIMHO, we lost because of poor scouting by the Azkals staff to Palestine. The tactics where just crosses and long balls (which deemed ineffective against the tall Palestines) and the team lacks creativity in the midfield. The team were just content on sitting deep instead of a much aggressive mentality. But the game is over now , well just have to lick our wounds and see the bright side of tomorrow and correct our mistakes.
ReplyDeleteInjuries played a huge part in the loss. The better team with better strategy won fair and square. Learn our lesson and improve.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to Philippine team for reaching the semis in a difficult situation. The got the best result possible for this lineup. I am sure there are much better players for midfield such as Mike Ott (12 goals in 24 games of Regionalliga Bayern and 9 in 11 games of U 19 team Bundesliga. Better defense for example Ray Jonsson ( not like de Jong with record of missing long passes) or others will be needed to reach the next level to compete with top teams. Continue to support the coach, whoever it is, incule proposals in your critics and do something for a better system in the Philippines Football.
ReplyDeletesorry about the typing errors: They got...include instead incule and others. Good luck to the Azkals team
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with you people talking about wrong tactics and shit... In case you didn't realized (probably didn't even watched the game at all) Palestine scored through a freekick. It was a deadball, and had nothing to do with tactics... Sure, Juani's size and height could've have made the difference on that freekick, but he wasn't available... Overall, if Palestine didn't get the freekick, it would have still be 0-0 at fulltime... We lost by a a goal from a freagin' deadball. Tactics wise and player choices by the staff worked well enough to carry them to the finals and lost by a goal from a freekick... IT WAS FROM A DEADBALL!!! All in hindsight, and now these stupid people knowing nothing talking about wrong tactics, wrong players blah blah blah...
ReplyDeleteaccording to this idiot's retarded opinion, when a team wins by a freekick/cornerkick/pk goal, it has nothing to do with strategy/tactic/line-up things and the coach is not responsible at all. Whatta genius.
DeleteJust stick to fucking basketball idiot.
and here's an idiot that take things out of context. of course a coach has to pick the right people and right formation and walls etc.. who wouldn't? what the bloke is talking about is that given how the game went on, overall, tactical game plan was working for the azkals.. we are not talking about a deadball marksman like becks... it could have gone in or could have gone wide.
DeleteI agree. You all seem to take the credit away from Palestine. They have not been scored on throughout the tourney. It was a close game that was decided from an unfortunate mistake.
DeleteThank you, azkals.
