UFL turns down Queen City’s request for home games

Sunday, February 10, 2013
THE United Football League (UFL) Organizing Committee told
Cebu Queen City United that a home-and-away format at this time is still
not possible.
Cebu Queen City lost its first game by default after failing to show up for its
Feb. 8 match against the Dolphins.
CQCU president Stanley Villacin said they sent their letter last Jan. 25
but got a reply last Feb. 8, a day before the match.
Villacin also said they are asking UFL to help them look for a sponsor.
“I told them to help us find a sponsor and we could go on with
our participation basta naa ra silay ikahatag para namo,” said Villacin.
“They are in the better position to look for sponsors because
they take charge of banners and marketing materials that can be put in
 the field.”
Last season, CQCU spent P5 million on airfare alone for 25 games.
This year it is expected to spend P4 million.
VIllacin said that as much as the club wants to spend for its UFL stint,
they are more inclined to fund other projects, especially in the
 grassroots.
Their major project includes supporting a national team in the
 age-group level.
The club is willing to invest in the needs of the team and handle
 its expenses,
from its formation to its participation in tournaments.
Aside from that, Queen City also holds the annual Cebu Football
Club Invitational tournament every summer. The tournament has the
men’s open and age group divisions.
Villacin is not expecting for the entire P4 million to be shouldered
by the UFL but said that even P1 million in support would be enough for
them to play nine games in Manila.
“If they want more time to decide then they have to reschedule our
 games,” he added.

    2. Its not a regionalistic attitude. The poster is only telling it like it is. This article made me laugh. I wonder what Mike Limpag is going to say about this?

    1. Yeah good idea. Create your own league, and take your Visayan referees with you. They are so biased. Especially that Bermejo guy. What a douche. And dont forget to take the crappy Ilonggos in the PFF, you know the ones who are influential and decides who gets called up. The friends of Gener, Margarse, Araneta. The reason why the three idiots still get called up. Why these idiots embarrassed the national beach soccer team. Yeah take them with you now. The PFF needs to be cleansed of these demons.

    2. I like that Anonymous 9:22! Dont forget Carmona! The useless under 23 coach. Hes not doing anything at the moment, the under 23 team is in the kangkongan somewhere, instead of practicing. But I still see Carmona in the PFF House at Pasig. He still reports maybe to play cards or exchange pleasantries with his western visayan amigos at the PFF. But nowhere near the pitch. Wow. Take him too!

  5. Guys, UFL gives money to the clubs coming from the proceeds of tournament sponsorships. :-)

Maybe Cebu did not get their share being a Div2 team.

The clubs should be the one really looking for their own sponsor, a logical solution would be to seek out a Cebu based organization i.e Aboitiz (Power)or Lhuiller (Jewellery or M.L Padala Yung etc.. Marami naman siguro who I believe would like to take the opportunity to market/advertise their business in a broader spectrum. It'll be a good fit for the identity and origin of the team dahil sa iisang lugar lang sila.

  7. pinahiya ng cqcu ang sarili nila.

  8. If CQCU can find a sponsor, what can they offer in return? If you check the schedule there are no more televised games in division 2, I think UGL also does not allow to put up advertisement boards on the fiield, so the only the names of sponsors on their jersey is possible, and who can see that? Do you think that's worth the millions they will invest? I guess the point of CQCU is to ask the assistance of UFL in finding a sponsor since they are in sa better position to offer benefits in terms of exposure tI the sponsor. The difference between CQCU and the other division 2 teams, as stated in the newspaper is 5 million. CQCU will throw away that much just for travel expenses alone, so we have to also to respect CQCU since they are asking only a token sum compared to the real expense, I guess they just want to know how far is the commitment of UFL to CQCU and the other future provincial teams.

    1. Sabi nga ng coach ng Ceres. before daw sila sasali sa UFL kailagan talaga nila pag isipan ng mabuti. Kasi pag sumali na sila dapat pang matagalan na.

As a professional club. Ganito dapat magisip. Hindi yun pabigla bigla. Kahit sino pa ang may kasalanan sa nangyari . Sa pinakita ng CQC eh kakahiha talaga. Sila yun talo dito. Hindi naman inter color eto sa barangay. Kahit nga sa inter color yun mga nag proprotesta at nagwa walkout eh nakakahiya. Parang mga walang pinagaralan.

Sana konteng respeto naman kahit papano.

    2. Blame also the guys behind UFL. They had the whole season last year to know the financial health of CQCU. There were signs already but UFL turned a blind eye.

      What a shame UFL organizers!

      Delete
    3. Talaga UFL pa rin is to blame for CQCU financial woes? The UFL did not force CQCU to join. And the club knows better than the league organisers about their financial capability. It is CQCU's fault why they're in the situation they are in now.

Let me ask you had the UFL known their financial situation and decided to drop CQCU, would you say that it was the right decision? Or would you say that it's a pangaapi of promdis and probinsyano?

      Delete
    4. Blame UFL organizers. They are using Cebu to show a semblance of representation from Visayas. But they are not willing to help. One sided.

      Ceres, be careful.

      Delete
    5. I don't think it's QCU's lone fault. UFL organizers should also know the financial considerations when joining their league. The arrangement asked by QCU is for me fair enough. If they can spend P5.0M for airfare alone, why can't other clubs do the same? why can't UFL spend also?

The main problem is the organization. Maybe because the decision makers are not the stakeholders themselves but only a few who consider themselves football Gods of the Philippines.

    6. UFL organizers do not know football. They only want to do business.

    7. The UFL is doing everything they can to help football grow. It is not true what you say that they only want to do business. The games are for free.

    2. Just ask Stallions if they also spent P5.0M for airfare alone. Easily they would say NO and even No way! that's because most of their players are based in Manila, you dimwit! before you comment, know the story first!

  11. Cebu QCU could have showed up for the first game , further talks regarding their request could have been negotiated, that is the 9 games in Cebu 9 games in Manila. This 1 game could have been their share of the nine and there are 8 more. But it turned out they did not show up obviously as a form of Protest or Boycott. The method they use to get a result is a big issue , some may think of it as fair , democratic and legal , but i think of it is foul , dictatorial and illegal. The end result should not always justify the means. There is what we call " Ethics" in sports,UFL should not permit such actions without the necessary consequences.

The Visayan Clubs and Players are good if not the best , and belonging to a club , may it be on the 1st or 2nd and even the 3rd division , should foster that sense of responsibility and professionalism.

    3. What the hell are you talking about? If CQCU are really as professional as you say they are, then they should not be asking the UFL TO LOOK FOR SPONSORS FOR THEM, AND THEY SHOULD HAVE TURNED UP FOR THEIR OPENING GAME.

Stop pointing your fingers at the UFL. The UFL is trying to run a club and they are doing a great job. The CQCU should get their acts together, find a sponsor and get on with it.

They can start by asking Aboitiz to be their sponsor since they are Cebu based. Now that is only if they are as professional as you claim them to be.

    4. You are entitled to your own opinion, even if wrong.

UFL organizers really need to improve more on transparency, logistics, etc.

  12. Almost all the clubs have their own share of expenses to maintain a team. Some Clubs sold their shares or partner with big companies so as to keep up with ever rising cost for playing on a league or cup . Add on to the demands of salaries and high maintenance of the new generation players. Almost all the club owners have their own woes and torment, and asking UFL to help a club because they were not able to get their own sponsors is not fair for everybody.CQCU thinks and presume that people will blame UFL for their decision of not showing up.But the boat turned around against them because of this unprofessional act. They could have gotten more sympathy if they backed-out before the start of the league due to their financial standing. The point here is they demand UFL to act on their problem (which every has), and practically solved the problem by boycotting a scheduled game so that UFL will be forced to heed to what they want. In my opinion this is very unprofessional.

Yes, I believe that UFL needs room for improvement , but it takes one step at a time. They are not close to perfect like any other organizing body around the world, but for sure with the cooperation of the Clubs and a firm stand , they will get there.

For me UFL had contributed a lot for the promotion of football in the Philippines, and I highly commend them for that.

This is my opinion and you are entitled to your own

If CQFU have known their status from the very start , they could have done something

  13. "UFL should also show professionalism. The organizers still need to learn a lot"

ANY SUGGESTIONS , I THINK UFL IS OPEN FOR THAT. JUST BE SURE YOUR NOT FROM CQCU BAKA MAG-WALK-OUT KA RIN KUNG HINDI MASUNOD ANG GUSTO MO.

It seems they do not know football :-)

HINDI LANG PURO FOOTBALL YAN, YOU NEED ALL THE CONNECTION AND SPONSORS YOU CAN GET , TO ORGANIZE THE EVENT
IKAW KAYA ANG MAG-ORGANIZE NG UFL , AT MAG FOOTBALL KA MAG-ISA , EH BAKA SA KANGKUNGAN TAYO LAHAT PULUTIN .
SIYANGA PALA , ANONG DIVISION BA ANG TEAM MO , O BAKA NAMAN KASALI KA SA SUBTRACTION.
