Despite the hype and reports claiming that several high profile foreign-based players have committed to suiting up for the flag and country against Iraq, only a few actually were included in the list. Which simply means, all the hype and the claims are nothing but hype and claims. In short, paasa, pabida, palpak. Committed is miles apart from actually showing up when it matters.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">The team, formerly known as the Azkals, will have the old reliable OGs, some returning and several new faces including a collegiate player from a school where a key official of the Philippine Football Federation also occupies a very important position. He must be mighty proud that his ward has made it to the squad set to leave tomorrow for the Dubai camp before the team faces Iraq on the 21st in Basra. The Designated Kit Man is hoping that this kid will make the best of his debut with the national team.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">Going back to the absence of notable names such as Gerritt Holtmann, Raphael Obermair, Sebastian Rasmussen and others, some say “availability” is one of the reasons why they won’t be in Iraq and Manila during the third week of March. What does “availability” mean? Is it because of injury? Is it because of club commitments? Is it because of personal reasons? Or is it because of the same old pabebe Azkal wannabe syndrome?
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">A source at the PFF, when asked about the exclusion of these players in the list, aptly summed it up when he responded: “I wish I knew.”
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">I wish I knew, too.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">But rather than harping on those who are not present, again, I would rather wish those who always heed the country’s call, the returning players and the rookies flying to Dubai, all the best. The games against the 59th FIFA-ranked Iraq will not be easy. The team is also coming from the Asian Cup so the odds are pretty stacked up against the Philippines.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">And for those who had so many things to say about the Azkals, players, coaches and management and know even more than your ordinary keyboard warriors and Monday morning strikers, make sure to be present on March 26 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. The team needs your presence. ‘Wag lang sa social media kayo pabibo at maingay!
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">Speaking of odds, what are the chances that so many job openings are available at the PFF? People who love football, have the necessary qualifications and would love to relocate to Carmona, Cavite now have several job opportunities to work with the PFF. From what I read, these openings include legal officer, marketing officer, program officer, accounting assistant, club licensing officer, international relations officer, production unit officer, media officer and multimedia designer. Is the PFF expanding its manpower to further boost football all over the country? The next logical question is: has so many people resigned from the PFF in such a short time since the new bosses took over? Perhaps the biggest question is ‘anyare’?
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">Speaking of moving on, two friends will officially end their stints at the PFF after several years. Cedelf Tupas and Icko De Guzman have tendered their resignations with the NSA and by April 1 will either be jobless or going on a much-deserved vacation. Whatever they intend to do, good hunting my friends!
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">Cedelf and Icko have done so much for the PFF and football in general during their stay. Much of these do not show on any statline or the usual stories about the national teams. They have worked mostly on the sidelines and even more behind the scenes.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">But there are three things I would like to thank them for: for helping and enabling the PFF to broadcast games of our national teams no matter where they play regardless of the time zones and circumstances. Especially when no mainstream media do not have the interest, the air-time and the nationalistic pride to air the games live. These two, including the many silent workers in the PFF, moved heaven and earth to ensure local fans have the opportunity to see the national teams – the Azkals, the Malditas and the youth teams – in action live.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">The second thing: Making the football press closer, updated, accessible and a beat apart from the usual sports press. Being part of the Philippine Football Press Corps GC has made life easier and bearable even when results are too depressing.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7 !important; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">The third thing is: Thank you for being real friends. That no matter how we argue, bash each other and have petty misunderstandings the whole time, at the end of the day, we are still friends. Go get them, Cedelf and Icko!

https://manilastandard.net/sports/sports-headlines/sports-columns/the-designated-kit-man-by-erel-cabatbat/314426015/paasa-pabida-palpak.html
jonnyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17721398772806838546noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4558039822687564906.post-39616624649798777092024-03-11T16:28:00.002+01:002024-03-11T16:28:17.029+01:00Philippines squad list against Iraq

jonnyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17721398772806838546noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4558039822687564906.post-12138332616269116292024-03-10T15:27:00.005+01:002024-03-10T15:27:46.384+01:00The best of luck Azkals
<span class="tdb-author-by" style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP" !important; font-size: 14px !important; font-weight: 900 !important; margin-right: 5px; vertical-align: middle;">By<span style="font-family: "Open Sans", "Open Sans Regular", sans-serif; font-size: 11px;"> <a class="tdb-author-name" href="https://manilastandard.net/author/erelcabatbat1" style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP" !important; font-size: 14px !important; font-weight: 900 !important; margin-right: 3px; outline: none; text-decoration-line: none !important; vertical-align: middle;">Erel Cabatbat

<span style="background-color: black; font-family: "Noto Sans JP"; font-size: 12px; letter-spacing: 0.5px;">March 7, 2024, 7:05 pm

<span style="background-color: black; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px;">

<span style="background-color: black; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px;">The Philippine Men’s National Football Team will fly to Dubai for a four-day training camp in the United Arab Emirates next weekend. font-size: 14px; font-weight: 900; margin-right: 5px; vertical-align: middle;">By<span face=""Open Sans", "Open Sans Regular", sans-serif" style="font-size: 11px;"> <a class="tdb-author-name" href="https://manilastandard.net/author/erelcabatbat" style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 14px; font-weight: 900; margin-right: 3px; outline: none; text-decoration-line: none; vertical-align: middle;">Erel Cabatbat

<span style="background-color: black; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px;">Some enterprising fans of the men’s national football team, or formerly known as the Azkals, have been going out of their way in finding answers to the pressing question of whether the current coach will still call the shots in next month’s resumption of the World and Asian Cup qualifiers

<span style="background-color: black; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px;">The Philippine Football Federation has remained mum on this matter and as expected, is also not helping. It only adds more to the anxiety and concerns of fans, who are eagerly awaiting developments on the team.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">But if The Designated Kit Man is made to believe, changes will be forthcoming soon in the team. Several sources have said that a new coach is coming to replace Hans Michael Weiss. In fact, this incoming coach is reportedly bringing with him some of his people from his previous spell from another national team. The sources added, too, that his team will be bolstered by local officials, who will complement and complete his coaching staff.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">According to the same sources, Weiss will not be completely out of Philippine football altogether, but he will be asked, instead, to handle one of the national youth teams.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">As of the moment, Weiss still has a valid contract with the national men’s football team until the end of the year. Another source said an official announcement will be made in the next few days to clarify the status of the head coach.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">But again, not until the PFF makes the official announcement then these pieces of information remain nothing but speculations.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">The Designated Kit Man tried to reach out to Weiss, but the German coach remained tight-lipped about his tenure. He, however, gave a short reply. “We will see a decision by February 29,” he replied.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">I guess a little bit more to know the real score on this nagging issue.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">Equally as anticipated is the composition of the squad that will see in an away-and-home series against Iraq next month. As of now, there’s no official announcement yet on who will be called to join the national training pool.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">Just like the status of the coach, the list of players coming back to the country or who are already here remains a matter of speculation, too. There were earlier reports that Santino Rublico will return to the team. The problem is, even if Rublico comes back, he can only play one game against Iraq. He has accumulated two yellow cards from his previous game, so he will serve an automatic one-game suspension.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">Just like other reports, Rublico’s coming is yet to be confirmed. There were also rumors that the PFF has reached out to Sebastian Ramussem, Raphael Obermair, several current and prospective Azkals in the past few weeks, but there is no way for me to confirm. Just like the rest, I will have to wait for the PFF to make the official announcement.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">On the upswing, the decision to let overseas-based players make the initial efforts in making themselves available for the national team is much welcome. Players, who have the potential to play for the national team are advised to come to the country first, try out and show what they are made of is intriguing and probably good in the long run. At least, on the bare minimum, there is the obvious and concrete manifestation of the desire to play for the national team, simply because they want to do so and not for anything else. This will also help in weeding out those “pabebe” Azkals wannabes, who think that playing for the three stars and the sun is the last resort in their careers.
<p style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: "Noto Serif JP"; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.7; margin: 0px auto 26px; overflow-wrap: break-word;">We can’t blame them actually, considering the state of football in the country, where it is desperate to gain popularity and support from Filipinos, who are so crazy with basketball and volleyball. Specifically, our first game is now set for April 7th at Rizal Stadium against Taguig United FC, a newly established club with a different approach from us. While we’ve focused on marketing and nurturing young local talent, Taguig FC has been more discreet in the media but has been actively recruiting experienced players. It’s bound to be an extremely challenging match for us, but also thrilling to face such seasoned opponents. We are anticipating an electric atmosphere and a large crowd in the stadium as both of these clubs are among the very few with the ability to attract large crowds and boast a significant fan base! We can expect a fantastic spectacle in the stands!
