The Philippine Men’s National team are set to face Malaysia in a FIFA International A match tonight, 7:30 PM at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
The friendly match will be the team’s first game back in action this year. The match serves as preparation for the AFC Asian Cup 2019 Qualifier match against Nepal on 28 March 2017.
It will be the fifth meeting between the Philippines and Malaysia since 2012. The past four games all ended in draws. The last Philippine win was in 1991 during the South East Asian Games held in Manila.
With a full squad available for the match, Philippines head coach Thomas Dooley is eager to finally record a win over Malaysia.
“(The last win over Malaysia) was a long time ago and we feel this is the right time,” said Dooley during the pre-match press conference.
Team captain Phil Younghusband echoed Dooley’s words.
“If we want to go further, we have to beat the teams that we have yet to beat in the past,” said Younghusband.
