If I'm a player making my choice between Ilocos United or Davao Aguilas, my choice hands down will be Ilocos United. 2 reasons: the terrorist activity in Mindanao will be a concern for me and my family, and Vigan is such a nice Spanish colonial town, it is hard to resist.
Whaat! Butig lanao, maguindanao n.cotobato, basilan and jolo, sulu are far flung place from davao region. Btw football in Ilocos region na nasa infancy stage pa and it keeps growing unlike sa mindanao ay established na much bigger ang following compare sa northern part ng luzon
Can you explain this please: "A bombing at a night market occurred in Davao City, Southern Philippines, on 2 September 2016, causing at least 14 deaths and 70 injuries.[1] On 13 September 2016, one of those injured, a pregnant woman, died, bringing the death toll up to 15."
Follow this logic. The terrorist always wanted a highly visible stage for their propaganda. Where else in "sleepy" Davao City can they get that, but in a well publicized football match.
that's being unreasonably fearful. if you're concerned about security, come up with better security measures. you can't base your decisions in life on the all-present "what if." you have that mentality, you won't really get anywhere.
Let's start from the beginning, this is a decision between two new clubs in the PFL, in two new cities. One with that looming "what-if" and the other without it. I believe I'm going somewhere in historically beautiful Vigan.
Well, there is nothing wrong for being fearful, NOT for oneself but for his family who, more than likely will be watching the game. Nobody wants to be foolishly brave if there is a better option without risking his family. Family comes first and my family will surely love Vigan hands down.
you probably haven't been to Davao City or Mindanao in general that you can easily say those things without having a 1st hand info. Davao is even safer than Manila in general but you are already insinuating that Davao is a dangerous place to go to. If it's not peaceful there a lot of Businessmen would not even invest in doing business there but that's not the case right now.
Correction the venue of the match ay sa tagum city. Wala pong reported terrorist sightings & activities sa tagum city and very far from metro davao..if you are worried about safety of players i davao what more sa Paris kung saan nagkaroon ng bombing incidents sa friendly match between host france and Germany.mas safe pa sa davao city kaysa sa France kaysa sa mga immigrants dun na sympathizer ng isis.
Unfortunately, the Abu Sayyaf Group is located in Mindanao, NOT Europe. I understand and appreciate the fact that the Davao Aguilas management put emphasis on players from Mindanao to join since they know the situation and can handle it. But for some players specially those with Spanish heritage like Latin players, Vigan's historical Spanish connection is something to admire and enjoy living in.
Wrong! ASG until now is incapable of establishing caliphate in entire mindanao kahit mismong ansar khalifa or maute group walang kakayahan kaya don't compare Isis-alquida alliance na mas may makinaryang mag carry out ng terror attack everyday in Europe..in terms of security of Davao Aguilas venue in tagum city walang dapat ikabahala because Mindanao is much safer than Europe masyado lang twisted ang reports ng international media about mindanao na Parang afghanistan at iraq raw.
I have to disagree with the first comment regarding football is in its infancy in Ilocos compared to Mindanao. Ilocos Sur and Vigan City in particular has been a football hotbed for the youth side of the game for sometime now. My Alma Mater, Immaculate Conception Minor Seminary is turning 200 years old in the next few years. And most of those years there have been football played in that school. They have represented Ilocos Sur and the Ilocos Region consistently in the Palarong Pambansa since its reintroduction of football in the mid seventies and at that time Mindanao was in the midst of war. ICMS has its own pitch for a long time. The latest when they had to rebuild it because of fire in the sixties. That pitched has seen young players from all over the Region play there since the seventies. Its not surprising to see young kids play football in front of the Parish Churches in the afternoons rain or shine. Since most of the priest played football themselves in the Minor, College and Major Seminaries. In fact, the Azkals played againts the Perth Glory last year. There was no tickets to be had if you are from out of town. Even I who is from there could not get a measly ticket despite knowing some people. The stadium was jam packed and there were people on rooftops just to watch the game. I would not be surprised if Ilocos United would be up there with Ceres in support and attendance eventually if not this year. So do not make such blanket statements when you do not know the facts. Just because you do not hear about it on TV it does not mean its not there.
I agree with Mr. Ramirez. I am personally in love with the Vigan area and is very biased in my opinion as seen with my previous comments. I have a Filipino friend who's related to an excellent young (19 y/o) Fil-Portuguese player. His name have been floated around the Filipino football discussions and I would personally recommend Ilocos United as the team to play for if he even decided to play in the Philippines. His name is Brandon Magpayo.
Other players that can identified ?
