Owing to its moniker as the "football capital" of the country, the local government unit of Barotac Nuevo is now gearing to submit to bidding the construction of its Php50-million football stadium
In an interview Tuesday, Mayor Braeden John Biron said that they already submitted the required documents to the Bids and Awards Committee (BAC). They hope to start with the construction anytime next month and complete it in 12 to 18 months.
Bulk of the fund will be sourced from the Php140-million savings of the town. Also, senator friends of his father, Iloilo Fourth District Representative Ferjenel Biron, donated Php5 million for the project, the mayor said.
He noted that the football stadium could accommodate around 5,000 spectators and when completed will serve as venue for international tournaments.
As the country’s football capital, Biron mentioned that their town is home for aspiring football players and through the stadium, athletes could further improve their skills.
Meanwhile, the mayor is also eyeing to construct other key infrastructures like market mall and improve their town plaza.
He said that he will also help the Department of Education (DepEd) by prioritizing the construction of Senior High School buildings in Barotac Nuevo.
Today, the town launched its “First Barotac Journey to Excellence,” a quiz bee conceptualized mainly to encourage pupils to strive hard in their studies.

Only 5000 seats and they expect to host international tournaments? And where are they going to build it? Next to the old church? I hope they plan this through.
