  1. This is BS!! Fuckers such as Gener and Margarse continue to get a call-up. Marwin has done fuck all for club and even the U23's from last year and all of a sudden in 2012 he's a regular?? Pretty much the same for his twin but out of nowhere gets a called up... Araneta who can't seem to hit a barn door also continues to get called up. Then you've got the idiotic experiments of trying to make De Jong a central defender and Christiaens a left back..... and now to top it all off, two of the country's best players are left out with no explanation.... Brilliant isn't it?!

Although to be slightly fair, it looks like he might have one hand tied behind his back. I mean, out a 20-man squad, 10, that's right TEN players are from Global FC...... hmmm....

I believed that Weiss has done enough to warrant a contract extension but now I've had it... Get rid of him now!!!!

    1. With NO explanation? Do u even read?! Haha
Maybe the brothers can explain it better why they were excluded. You're right, they are 2 of the best players in the country now that is why for me, there really must be a damning reason why they were dropped, and im sure it's not pretty.

    3. maybe u should be the coach of the national team. maybe we'll finally reach the world cup

  2. Official statement is out and its pure BS! Just because the YH have some other commitments and other priorities and that they cant be in all the camps, it means they arent committed enough for the azkals management.

  3. And its clear who calls the shots here when it comes to squad selection. Weiss? I think not. He is a puppet and Palami is the puppeteer.

  4. when i see that line-up i already have serious concerns for the Peace Cup. I mean mostly only Phil can score a goal and he will miss the matches like his brother as well....both are important players for the NT.....and now reinforcement from our Euro players as well (which was clear due to club duties).....I guess this team will already have some troubles vs. Guam....and vs. Chinese Taipeh the team hasn't won in the Long Teng Cup (pre-Peace Cup)....and our beloved "star" players Gener & Margarse are also back on track? What a BS!!!....

  5. it's time to make a cut..both managment and coach....we need some fresh ideas and concepts....and not a corruption line -up with 10 Global players...why not let Global FC play as NT? ....BS

  6. You all know nothing official happens in PHI without selfishness and favoritism.
The Azkals have become a private plaything of certain individuals and even a Jose Mourinho would struggle to buck the system.
Weiss was a nobody coach when he arrived in Manila courtesy of the German FA and only an optimist would say the NT has improved since McMenemy got the boot. Unfortunately nobody in the PFF has the integrity to ask for change and thefans will still have to suffer a few more years of more downs than ups.

  8. Weiss is preparing for the worst scenarios like both YH brothers not playing. I still believe that the YH brothers are out only for the Peace Cup, and I'm hoping that they'll be back come Suzuki Cup. Sana nga ganun.

  9. I think they are just sending a message to the Younghusbands to tell them to fully commit to the team. Although most of us would like to win the Peace Cup as well, they are using this relatively minor tournament to make sure that everyone is focused on the main goal and that is to win in the Suzuki cup. I find it hard to imagine that they won't call up the Younghusbands in the Middle Eastern trip where they will be facing really strong teams and we would need our full roster in order not to get embarrassed. I see this as a short term measure to improve the team for the long haul. We will see what happens afterwards.

I am not a big fan of Coach Weiss, as you all know, but when it comes to disciplinary issues, I tend to side with the coach. I have seen many instances in professional hockey and other sports where coaches bench their star players for a few games, to get them to focus and perform at their best. Scotty Bowman used this tactic a lot and all he has done is become the winningest coach in NHL history. Players don't like being benched so they usually play better afterwards. However sometimes this move occassionally backfires especially if the coach does not have the support of his employers or the outcry from the public becomes too loud, as they sometimes would side with the players. It is ther

"they are using this relatively minor tournament to make sure that everyone is focused on the main goal and that is to win in the Suzuki cup."

That's the problem right there! They're going about things as if we're genuine title contenders even though we're not!

In the PFF's statement, they even say that we should manage our expectations (which is true) but they contradict themselves by saying that they're in the most rigorous part of their preparations and all that BS and want everybody's unequivocal commitment... as if we're genuine title contenders. We're not!!!

who's to say that the likes of the YH bros aren't fully committed? Load of shit!

The fact that the PFF themselves we're the ones who came out with a statement also shows this decision wasn't Weiss' alone which makes all of this even worse!

      Delete
    3. Did u even read bthe statement? It says it comes from the management and coaching staff you moron! Meaning it is a collegial decision. Something not privy to us must have transpired for them to reach such decision. Anyhow, the YHs is NOT the team for crying out loud.

  10. We got 2nd place without phil, the last long teng cup. This is experimental and tend to shy away from relying too much on the brothers. A good move that could backfire but whatever works in the preparation for the suzuki cup.

    1. You clearly didn't watch last year's Long Teng Cup. The YH bros were there!! Phil even scored a penalty against Hong Kong!

Experimental? lol. Do you really believe that?! Doubtful. Them being omitted clearly has nothing to do from an experimental point of view.

  15. Why not included? Does the brothers JYH and PYH have attitude issues?
Between Wolf, Araneta and PYH, I pick on top PYH. That goes with JYH.
Etheridge, Schrock, Lucena, Johnson and other Pinoys playing abroad will not be probably called up even to the Suzuki Cup because they cannot commit. The case goes with the YH brothers. Although not abroad, but they have other commitments as well in some instance. But at the Peace Cup they are available so why not.
They are the best right now on our line up and they are available to play.
Sorry to say but part of the rise of the Azkals are due to the YH, though they may not admit it. Children, men, women and others are liking football because of the two.
Discipline. What about it? Are the two YH giving the team a hard time. Are they playing selfishly?
I and some don't think so.
I hope they change their mind.
We'll look at the Chicago Inferno and Phil NT experiment. We got clobbered.
I hope some guys in the management and coaching staff are not being personal.

  16. The hardest part in training is when the players in your list are not there.. This is a coach's nightmare, when we commit to represent especially our country we have to give our irrevocable commitment - Sacrifice they say for the love of country, cause no matter how good the program of a coach will be, it can never be implemented if the players are not there or if they are not complete. This is sometimes why coaches would prefer a team of dedicated players rather than a team of superstars who are not always there... But from an outsider looking in, we sometimes don't understand this because we cannot see the frustrations of the coach, whom we always blame if something goes wrong. May this be a lesson to those who want to play but whose priorities are somewhere else. You can still change your ATTITUDE. COMMIT and PRIORITIZE while there is still time before the real battle begins..

    1. That is so true. You nailed it! Right on the spot, man!

    2. "when we commit to represent especially our country we have to give our irrevocable commitment"

That's the thing though. They want that type of commitment as if it's a club team! At the same time they want that type of commitment as if we're going into a major tournament as favorites to win the title even though we're not!

This is also a national team! Therefore it is a transient team! You don't train and play with a national team week in week out. The players, such as the YH bros will have other commitments, be it with their club or non-footballing commitments! That can never be avoided more so in a country where football isn't anywhere near professional yet.

What's more frustrating about all of this is that the best domestic based national team wasn't even selected! If they're gonna omit two of the best players, you'd at least expect the next best to be in but that's not the case. In fact it has never been the case when it came to a largely domestic based national squad.

    3. "This is sometimes why coaches would prefer a team of dedicated players rather than a team of superstars who are not always there."

VERY UNTRUE!!! what happened to the training camp at bacolod? most of the players in the training pool did not even see action during the duration of the afc challenge cup and even most of the friendlies... those who were not there (players from abroad)were the ones who hog playing time! that just shows that TALENT TRUMPS your so-called dedication!

      Delete
    4. i would term our local players (both pure-blooded and fil-fors) in the training camps as dedicated and committed players and the fil- fors (esp. those based overseas) as "superstars who are not always there". how far does commitment and dedication in practice and training goes vis-a-vis talents that only come around at gameday?

      Delete
    5. Hello??? When this Fil Fors are not here, they are killing themselves in training with their respective European clubs. While when the YHs are not in training, they are busy with endorsements and other off field activities. These Fil Fors maybe superstars here but over there, in Europe they are as ordinary as you and me, so practice wise they work hard, doubly hard. This is what you need to see and realize. We have to go deeper and know the difference.

  17. I think that the Younghusbands have gotten a bit bigheaded. It's about time they learn their lesson. Or maybe, just maybe, it's their manager who's the problem.

    2. Excuse me, but Chieffy is very down to earth, phil and james are good, but hey should know their priorities, or maybe their manager should... They should contribute to football and not football contribute to them. The fact tnat they have a manager means a million things, they have made football a businees and a source of income, no big. Problem with that as long as thy guve back to football what football has given to them

      Delete
    3. phil and james have both talent and would have been ablt to make it somewhere in a euro based league.....but they didn't want to sacrifice and train hard and strict....and then they had other commitments....the point is: they have enough time to make their commitments and appointments (nothing against it) when they have free time (they don't train all the day and the season doesn't run 365 days without interruption)....so why they have always something else to do when the NT has some matches ?

    4. @ Anonymous24 September 2012 14:17

Caligdong down to earth?! He sure doesn't show that on the pitch. Pre-2011, he never saluted during the national anthem. 2011-present, he starts saluting as if to make people know "he's the man". lol! Look at how he celebrates a goal such as the one against Singapore. He's pretty much saying "come on show your appreciation, I know you all love me". lol!

As for the your comment about Phil & James not giving back... total horse shit!! They hold all sorts of clinics and all that every and now and again. They started the Younghusband Academy in January 2010, a time when there wasn't much going on in Philippine football. That has now become the academy which is in cooperation with Chelsea. You don't think that's not giving back?!? lmao!

  19. Read the interview done by Bob G. There you get all the details. And i fully understand that the YH didnt want to sign a contract, and they do have many valid points. They pointed out that international football is only for weeks at a time, not fulltime job like it is for the azkals. I was surprised to see that some of their teammates, azkals, went against them because they played for Meralco against the azkals in a tuneup game last weekend. The management even questioned their physical form, when they actually perform at a high level everytime they suit up for the azkals. Even a player like Denis Wolf, who has experience from german leagues, isnt even near of doing what Phil is doing.

The YH brothers have had different commitments since they decided to move to the Philippines, and that is years ago. Heck, i even believe that if Phil Y didnt give up on his career a few years ago because he moved to the Philippines, he wouldve been a professional footballer now in a decent league in Europe, in a league where the UFL is nowhere near in terms of professionality, quality and popularity.

The YH brothers has done alot for Philippine football. Theyre not seeking fame, they already have that, and from what i see, players envy them for what they have. Theyve always been upfront and ahead of other azkal players since they decided to suit up for the azkals.

What the brothers want is to live their own life, they have other commitments, they have to make a living. Why should they sign a contract for a national team when that is totally BS? They have other obligations, and the management should accept or work out something. The brothers arent loaded with money like Borromeo, they need to make a living for themselves and their family. Remember that theyre taking care of their little sister.

I still support the azkals, and will always support the azkals, but this incident really blows. This clearly shows that a national team is run like a CLUB. What is even worse that neither Weiss or Palami was present.

    ReplyDelete
  20. “There are certain economic and non-economic demands which we cannot meet,” said PFF communications head Ebong Joson, who added that the group cannot pay for even half the amount the brothers were asking for.”
Someone from the Federation who wants to remain anonymous disclosed that the female manager of the YH was demanding 75K a piece for the brothers for every TV appearance with the Azkals and about 30K a week during training camps.
First of all the Federation do not have the funds to meet the demands of the YH. Secondly it would be a big issue among the other national players who truly play for love of country and receive just allowances and at times win bonuses.
There have been rumors that the female manager’s top priority is making money for the brother as she profits likewise as she gets a cut in every business deal and yet she pretends to have no idea why the Federation had to take the hard decision to exclude the brothers from the roster for the good of the team.

This national team duties made them famous and popular. It is this popularity that gave them their income, isn't it just fair that you give back what football has done to your talents? Hello Miss Cathy $$$$$..

All a bunch of fat bastards who sit in the office talking about who had intercourse with Cristy Ramos. PFF are just upset that YH brothers refused to help them earn money through sponsors with off the field activities. As soon as the PFF changes the better!
