QCU extends streak in UFL, makes finals in Aboitiz

CEBU Queen City United bagged its fifth straight win, 4-1, against Union International Manila to stay at fourth place in the second division of the United Football League.

Cebu Queen City, the only non-Manila-based team in the league, has 19 points on a 6-1-2 record, two points behind third placer Agila FC.

The undefeated Pachanga is second with 27 points, while Diliman is first with 28. However, both Cebu and Pachanga have a game in hand.

Yesterday, Ivan Meilan scored first for Union, before Ryan Hemida got the equalizer off a pass from Rene Menchavez Jr. Menchavez also scored for a 2-1 lead at half time.

In the second half, Dan Villarico upped his tally to nine goals with an early strike for 3-1 before Bryan Eborda got on the score sheet for the full count.

Since losing to Pachanga, Cebu Queen City has now won five straight games and scored 33 goals in that span, while conceding four.

In the Aboitiz Cup, Queen City United-A ousted University of San Jose Recoletos Alumni, 3-1, in the semifinal of the men’s open, to arrange an April 1 finals with Crazy Horse, which routed Don Bosco United, 3-0.

Robert Mamac scored for USJ-R in the fifth but Benedict Arriola got the equalizer in the 68th minute, before adding the go-ahead goal in the 78th minute. Rommel Cuizon banged in the final tally in the 88th to seal Queen City’s final stint.

In the other semis, Hayato Ayabe, Mitsuo Tsunakiri and Bernard Rotich had a goal each in extra time to boot out Don Bosco United.

Last Saturday, Don Bosco had a strong showing as it bagged the Players 8 and Boys 12 titles, while Sacred Heart Ateneo de Cebu claimed the Girls 17 title.

Meanwhile, USJ-R, which is representing the Cebu Football Association in the Suzuki Cup under-23 qualifiers, routed Leyte FA, 4-1 in its opening match.

Rikko Cedric de Guzman had a hat trick, while Agapito Baclaan had one. CDG FA.
