  5. Prediction ? North Korea win 1-0 ?

  6. We don't have a natural defensive midfielder in this lineup. Marwin has good technique but is young and inexperienced(esp. professionally). Can he handle the level of opposition we will be facing tonight? Coach Weiss is taking a big risk in central midfield. Hope it works out okay.

  7. My prediction, 0-0 tie between NKorea and PHL.

  10. Maybe Weiss thought that Moy was being too distracted by the problems back at home. It's the only way I can explain Angeles in the midfield.

  11. LOL!!! That starting lineup coming from the "official" website?!? I'm not buying it! Well, OK, maybe a bit since some of the players listed are obvious first choice players but Angeles starting?!? That, I'm definitely not buying!

  15. Angeles = Clear weak link!!

He doesn't add anything in midfield and he's a big factor why we're getting overrun!

  17. 0-0 at HT is a kind of success especially with a squad like that.....but it will be just a matter of time till the N-Koreans score, their play is too dominant (like expected)

    ReplyDelete
  18. the parked bus is damaged now ....the logical 1-0 for N-Korea

    ReplyDelete
  19. a draw was possible .. BUT only with high concentration and not the 2 heavy errors which lead to the scores of N-Korea.

Nontheless it was a sort of success .. since N-Korea is a World Cup participant and the lost game was a small result.

BUT there are enough questions : Sample: Why Angeles was playing.. weak! Mulders went of the venue early.. why ?

    ReplyDelete

    1. i was wondering that as well....Angeles was total weak and always a rsik factor. When we have a pro from Europe then he has to play 90 mins. Probably they excuse it again with being tired from travelling. Maybe Mulders is not 100% in form? ...he gets almost no playtime in his club and they are far away from being a top team in the Dutch league......with all man on board (Schröck, Cagara, Lucena, De Jong etc.) there were even a small chance to win that match.........but nevertheless we can live with that result...but they must be aware: the India game is already do or die

      Delete
    2. Weiss said Mulders wasn't 100% because he arrived late... he hadn't acclimated yet. Based from his performance.... it makes sense.

  21. India lost to Tajikistan 0-2. So it will be a deciding match on Sunday....the loser has probably no chance anymore to advance. Seems like the Koreans and Tajiks will advance to the semis.....both were in the same group in World Cup qualifier and last match ended in a 1-1 draw....

    ReplyDelete

    1. Don't worry too much about the Tajiks for the fact that they competed in the WC qualifier 3rd round. They actually were murdered by Syria at previous round by 1-5 on agg., but luckily advanced thanks to Syria who got disqualified later for having fielded an arguably ineligible player.
And then Tajiks got gang banged in the 3rd round. Their first 5 matches were all scoreless defeats, with conceding 17 goals in total, and their last match against NoKor you mentioned were motiveless for both teams since the two were already eliminated.

I'm not saying we should underestimate the Tajiks. Of course not. But we don't need to be scared of em either. They're no better than ASEAN powerhouses like M'sia or S'pore, i'm sure for that, and therefore we have enough chance to get pass them if we can put the best possible effort on the pitch. I think it's gonna be a close fight.

  22. Sorry , you are right Angelo Marasigan replaced Nate Burkey . Dont know why they kept Dennis Cagara in the squad list . Maybe they were still expecting him ?

  23. Who is Marasigan? Weird to leave out Burkey when he is there with the team. Im positively surprised by the result today. I think they might have a good chance to go to the semis with a bit of luck, and the azkals always have alot of luck when playing tournaments.

    1. That's Angelo Verheye. Fil-Belgian who was part of the U-21's in the Bolkiah Trophy. He looks like a good player in the making.... like a right sided Jeffrey Christiaens. But is he even in Nepal?

      Anyway...

"Positively surprised"??? About the Philippines? If so that's weird because we lost yet you're "positively surprised". And how can you say that they always have a lot of luck??

      Delete
    2. Seems from his tweets that he is still in Philippines ? Dont know why Nate was removed from squad list , he is in Nepal?

Jason de Jong is arriving on Saturday according to Cedelf Tupas , he was also in the squad list.

  24. I was expecting 4 or 5-0. North Korea doesnt score alot of goals, but in all aspects, id expect a big score when a WC participant plays some stray dogs who doesnt have much to show for in the sport.

Did you see the Suzuki Cup? If football was fair, they wouldnt have done so well. Did you see the qualifying tournament for the Challenge cup? Lots of luck there. And ill say it again, if football was fair, they wouldnt have been in Challenge cup. They were only good against Bangladesh, and struggled in the other games. Myanmar for instance was pushing and pushing and they shouldve been up with 4-5 goal at HT. The azkals also got lucky against Laos when they managed a draw 2-2 on overtime and qualified for the Suzuki cup. Laos had a highway on the right side, and they came through like a hot knife on butter everytime they had a chance. Even a blind man wouldve seen that it was lucky.

So yes, the azkals has alot of goldielocks in the place where the sun never shines.

  25. The performance of our AZKALS Team today is much better compared to what the other people expect., a 5-0 or 4-0 , if you look the back at the first half 0-0 it means a lot the Philippine Azkals can depend and fight play against the depending champion or even a world cup qualifier.,

But anyway., for me., it was a great play..,of the AZKALS nothing to worried its just a beginning still nobody knew untill the end of the tournament

Believe that we had to learned a lot form the past experience., its not the end yet...

Next other remaining 2 games still had a big chance to reached at least in the semi-final.. championship is a big miracle for us...

We believe you guys,,kept on focus and play your best...Good luck ....God Bless All...- OFW MIDDLE EAST

    1. LOL!!! You clearly didn't watch the game did you? If you did, then you were probably watching a different game! The performance was crap!! Don't let the 0-0 half-time score blind you! We really should have lost that match 5-0 or so. The only thing we had going for us was Etheridge (even if he did cost us a second goal).

  27. In terms of the scoreline, 0-2 defeat to a team like North Korea is pretty decent i also think, which we would've never even imagined some years ago. Our defense did quite good job. That's for sure.
Other than that, however, i didn't see any positive point tonight. All we did throughout 90 minutes is defense, defense, and defense. I know we parked the bus as a strategy, but PTB is nothing but a loser's plan if you can't even occasionally give the opponent dangerous counter attack, and we couldn't do it at all easily losing ball by NoKor's pressure from up front to the midfield. The only chance, what you can actually call a chance, was Phil's shot at the very beginning, and that was all. What the hell did we do after we conceded a goal, and another one? We should have stepped up more offensively but we played like chickens until the end as if the only motive for us was not to be routed.

After all this, being satisfied with the scoreline just sounds stupid to me. NoKor is known for its poor finish anyway.
What seems to be the point is that tonight's game was just a typical extremely one-sided match between two teams on totally different level. I know NoKor is a strong team with or without their best players, but hey, they are just one of a stronger team, far from the top in Asia. Yes they grabbed one of 4 tickets to the 2010 WC but it was more like a surprise success of extremely defensive strategy like how Greece played in Euro 2004. They are usually considered as #10 to #15 in Asia. Though i'm not exactly a FIFA ranking believer, there is a reason why NoKor is ranked lower than #100. Compare that to real Asian top teams like Australia (20), South Korea (30) and Japan (33).

So, though i knew we would definitely lose, i thought we could show them some better performance than this, and now i know i was delusional.
BTW, don't say that we missed Schrock or Cagara blah blah if you don't bother to care about opponents' situation. NoKor missed even more decisive players including their best star Jong Tae-se. It's hard for any countries to collect the best squad for this kind of minor events so just get over it. That's why they say the player depth is so important.

Conclusion: A decent scoreline for a match where we couldn't even touch the counterpart's shadow. Let's stick to next matches.

    1. AGREED .... with you... during the game (NOKOR vs AZKALS ) for my observations what is the AZKALS wanted to show is to make it a draw as much as possible but they failed but if there is a chance to score its a bonus perhaps, but at least they've done the best job.,.Even the coach of NOKOR surprise for the great performance of our AZKALS...

    2. I've seen some positive things last night. They played much better when chiefy went in and yes chiefy may start on the next. We couldn't argue why we didn't start him last night for the obvious reason that he is still not 100% healthy. Bahadoran and Angeles were not yet ready but they really tried their hearts out. Our defense is going stronger each game. I'm very optimistic that we will have a much better game against India and Tajikistan.

    3. A lot of expert wannabe!!!!, hey guys let me remind you that NK is 45 higher than us and practice year round and a world cuper hehehe! it is just like putting a 6 grader vs a 4th year high school in a basketball game, just think who will win?... siguro sa example ko matatauhan kayo kong bakit tayo natalo....basketball na yan ha siguro maiintindihan na ninyo ok!!!

      Delete
    4. Of course we will, and we should, have better games in the next matches. Both India and Tajikistan in my opinion are less strong than our neighboring rivals. 6 pts would be ideal of course but i'm ready to be satisfied with just 4 pts, a win and a draw. Less than that, well, then i'd call it a big fail.

Anyway, win or lose, it's gonna be way much fun in the next two matches 'cos we don't have to watch such boring PARK THE DAMN BUS thing anymore.

    5. ^^Less than 4 pts. you'd call it a big fail? Talk about being over the top!

  28. Team like us is still young., just remember Basketball nation.., having qualified for such major tournament AFC CC 2012, among others.,

Emerging nations.,the only Team in the group B together with depending champion and the previous champions..

But at least still too early to judge to our team..but at least our team AZKALS neer surrender they can level those giant teams

WE BELIEVE.. to the next 2 games AZKAL will win and they can reached the semi-final of this year's AFC Challenge Cup 2012... just hope and pray...Thanks...

  29. limiting the scoreline 2-0 for the defending champions is massive already. North Koreans are better as to training, tactical organization (see how they man-marked Phil and Angel and played out James in midfield), passing game (caused troubles to Sabio and Jonsson). we weren't able to control our zones. don't forget they are defending champs, 2010 WC team and blanked Japan, 1-0 last Nov.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. agree.....North Korea are very hard to play...and the top teams in Asia always have a hard time vs. them and the matches are very close. So a 2-0 defeat is a success regarding that what kind of team we have and are a total underdog. it was clear that we focused on defending with trying to make a counter attack....as the team has not the possibilities to to play with them on a same level.....and besides of that all South East Asian teams would probably lose against them too (in the recent past no team from the SEA area was able to win vs. them except of Thailand).....so lets focus on India and Tadjikistan......

  30. Schröck won't be able to come over to join the team in Nepal as he got a knee injury on yesterdays match vs. Aachen and to be substituted. It's not yet clear how long he will be abscent...

  31. I got 2 English friends and they seriously said that the match is very biased. They reckoned 5-0 in favour of North Korea as they saw them played in 2010 Germany World Cup. However, when I told them the result of 2-0, one of them said "is that all?". They're very impressed.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hahaha!!! You're friends were impressed only because you told them that the score was 2-0 to the Koreans and not 5-0?!?! LOL!!!

Like I've said above, don't let the half-time or even the final score blind you!! Scores don't always reflect how the match went. In this case, it doesn't as the overall performance was shit!! The Koreans really should have won at least 5-0! It was only Etheridge that was our saving grace!

      Delete
    2. yep, if the Koreans wouldn't have sucked so badly in front of the goal and Neil didn't make some brillant saves (a penalty included - even he fumbled the ball before the 2-0) they really had swept us out of the stadium....the Azkals acted like wolves who want to hunt some sheeps but forget to put the dentures in their mouths....total harmless

      Delete
  32. NoKor won by only 1-0 over Nepal in last year's CC qualification, but it doesn't mean Nepal stands only one goal behind NoKor. It can easily be 5-0 next time if NoKor's finish goes better. Vietnam even took a scoreless draw with NoKor in 2010, but no, it doesn't mean Vietnam is on the same level with NoKor.
Football is not math people. A scoreline in a game doesn't really mean that much, especially when a team uses extremely defensive strategy.

Anyway, let's just move on. Our real enemies from the beginning were India and Tajikistan.
