Kaya, Global, Loyola eye lead

Kaya FC and Global FC clash for the lead even as Loyola Meralco Sparks guns for a share of it against reigning League and Cup champion Air Force Phoenix in today’s resumption of the United Football League’s First Division at the University of Makati field in Makati City.

Tied with 18 points, Kaya and Global collide at 2 p.m. while the star-studded Loyola side tries to get back at Cup tormentor Air Force in their much-anticipated duel at 4 p.m.

It will be an explosive twinbill with the four teams, backstopped by members of the Azkals, all tipped to contend for the crown.

Loyola will be bannered by the prolific brothers Phil and James Younghusband, who combined for a league-leading 17 goals, while Air Force will be led by Chieffy Caligdong and Ian Araneta.

Kaya, for its part, has Jason Sabio and Lexton Moy aside from the injured Aly Borromeo while Global boasts of the combo of Misagh Bahadoran, Carlos de Murga and Fil-Spanish siblings Juani and Angel Guirado.

While Kaya, Global and Loyola are on top of the heap, Air Force is struggling at joint sixth with the Green Archers United with seven points behind Army Fritz & Macziol FC with eight points and No. 4 Stallion Gilligan’s FC with 13 points.

In the lone Second Division match, Cebu Queen City United meets Lions Meltque Beef FC at 6 p.m.

The Cebuanos are seeking to firm up their hold of No. 3 with 22 points and close the gap between them and the pacesetting Pachanga FC with 31 points and Diliman Victory Liner FC with 29 points while the Lions are looking to come out of a tie for No. 10 with Manila All-Japan FC with seven points apiece to a share of Dolphins United FC at No. 9 with 10 points.
