La Salle retains Ceres Cup titles

The winning streak continues for Ceres- La Salle football team as the squad beat Central Philippine University in Men's 22 and turned back the Rising Sun- Cebu in Men's Open to register back-to-back victories in the 2 nd Ceres Cup at the North Football Field in Talisay City over the weekend.
The La Sallians led the list of winners in the two-day 7-a-side football festival that drew a record of 406 participating teams from different areas of the country.
It was the same La Salle football team that scored a three-peat in the national PRISAA games in Iloilo last month and had successfully defended their crown in the University Games last year, their veteran and multi-titled coach Freddie “Nene” Lazarito said.
La Salle's Hanesin Prince Antony, who was named Most Valuable Player in Men's Open last year, bagged his second individual award from the tournament this year with his impressive performance for the La Salle team in Men's 22.
While this year's Ceres Cup proved to be a little difficult as foreign players beefed up the lineup of the other clubs, Lazarito said playing together for more than a year now worked to their advantage.
“We had a great team work and we've been practicing everyday. Our players are both mentally and physically prepared for the tournament,” Lazarito said.
He also attributed their series of victories to the all-out support of their benefactor, the Yanson family, who were there to provide for the needs of the players.
Sharing the limelight with the La Salle squad are the lady booters from Negros Occidental Fotoball Association, who beat Minuluan, 1-0, in Ladies' Open final match.
Similarly triumphant were the young footballers from Atletico de Bago, who beat Sportivo FC – Alabang in Boys' 18 championship, while Don Bosco - Cebu captured the title in Boys' 16 category yesterday by prevailing over San Carlos FC.
The loss in Boys' 16 did not dampen the spirit of the San Carlos FC, whose Ladies 19 team reigned against Tamasak FC from Barotac in the final, while their Girls' 13 squad edged Rizal Football Club to grab the title, and the Boys' 11 team taming Don Bosco Cebu for the top prize in Boys' 11.
The final match in Men's 38 saw veteran-laden Ceres FC team beating their counterparts from San Carlos FC with former national team campaigner Jesurel Tonog receving the MVP honors.
Ilaga FC took the title in Boys' 14 after beating Ateneo Cebu, while the Blue Brothers from Manila dominated the competition in Mix 9 category.
Earlier, Negros Occidental Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. along with Bacolod City Mayor Monico Puentevella and Talisay City Mayor Eric Saratan led the ceremonial kick along with Vice Governor Eugenio Lacson and tournament chairman Nicolas Golez during the opening ceremony.*NAB

  1. The only football festival whose organizers have their own team and referees. Teams shouldn't expect a championship trophy if your age categories have a 'Ceres-La Salle Team in your bracket.

    4. its time for you to give your best every time, no need drama.if you're not tough, you will remain the B-side. just like what fight of hte century did. simple as that. so? practice more, how many bad calls did you received last cup?

    5. Have you heard the word "Fair Play?"

ikanga sa vegas "the house always wins".

Kaya hindi basehan ang Championship trophy sa sa mga football festivals at palarong pambansa dahil individual merit is still the key to be in the upper echelon like the Men's National Team o Azkals. Teams from the grassroots will not continue for so long but talents and individual skills will survive and put you in the limelight. So stop bragging about team to beat because individual skills is still the top priority if we want to achieve great footballing heights in our country or in abroad.

    2. just like NOFA - palakasan. it's tougher to join the FA selection if you are not playing under Ceres.

  5. ang napa nood mo na pure visayan league filipino ay isang testament ng regional power ng nofa, kasi walang liga na para sa mga filipino, it means, without this reinforcement of fil-foriegns, we can say That visayan regions is the hotbed of football, but for now,i can say with fearless forecast, that negros occidental is the team to beat,.sana walang palakasan sa sports, at makaka pasok din ang mga local boys namin dyan sa philippine team, im just only a fan.hehehehehe

Ceres can win everything, but if the rest of Negros Occidental is rubbish then NOFA loses. remember that.

  10. here's another news! fc barcelona won the fc barcelona cup extending their reign to 236 years. although real madrid remains indifferent since they won their 219th real madrid cup a week later.
