IT was a draw that was more like a loss.
Global FC settled for a scoreless stalemate against Pahang FA anew on Wednesday night at the Philippine Stadium, leaving the host team falling short in its bid to advance to the Asian Football Confederation Cup knockout stage.
Needing no less than a win to progress to the Round of 32, the defending United Football League champions took the fight to the Malaysian side, but came up empty-handed as both teams duplicated the same result in their first meeting in Malaysia.
Misagh Bahadoran, Mark Harmtann, and Raul Martinez conjured the Philippine representatives’ chances that just missed their marks.
“We took a gamble, but we just couldn’t find the back of the net,” Global coach Leigh Manson said.
Global thus wound up third in the four-team Group G with five points, three behind its Malaysian tormentor, which qualified for the next round along with top seed South China.
