Top Azkals out of SEAG due to ‘WC’ qualifiers

By Cedelf P. Tupas

With the Philippine Football Federation also focused on the World Cup Qualifiers, some of the country’s top Under-23 players could miss the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore next month.
The likes of Mark Hartmann, OJ Porteria, Daisuke Sato and Amani Aguinaldo all made the SEA Games age cutoff, but with coach Thomas Dooley expected to include them in the Azkals pool, they were left out of the SEA Games training camp squad.
The first game of World Cup Qualifying against Bahrain is slated on June 11, which is in conflict with the SEA Games schedule.
“The national team comes first,” said Philippine Football Federation general secretary Ed Gastanes said.
Azkals manager Dan Palami is targeting a May 28 start to training camp for the Azkals, who will be beefed up this time by several new recruits like Iain Ramsay, Luke Woodland, Stephen Palla and Kevin Ingresso.

  1. desame old story, pure alibi, it only shows that they are not professional when it come to handle to this matter.

  2. Lol nobody cares bout soccer ha ha

    1. Then what are you doing here. Stop wasting your life on things you dont care about

    2. soccer or football is the fastest growing sport in the country..dito sa Pilipinas...

everybody cares about football dito sa Pilipinas. at least filipino sport fans today have choices unlike noong mga previous sa basketball ba lang umiikot ang sport sa Pilipinas..

ngayon may billiards, boxing,MMA,football, american football,Rugby, frisbee, criccket, ice and field hockey and volleyball.

madagdagan pa ng panibagong sports sa Pilipinas like net ball floorball.

kaya doble ang kayod ng PBA sa promotion ng kanilang Pro league. marami na silang competitors

  3. @5:28 which are you referring to. Yes the PFF is not doing enough PR and marketing for example. No initial shortlist of squad for the World Cup is released to the public. this monday was the deadline for the submission of squad to FIFA.

The WQ match is on June 11. If you include these youth players to the SEAG team it would put too much fatigue on them plus the last match day for the group stage alone is one June 11.

World Cup Qualifiers should be given priority over the SEA Games. Ideally our U23 and senior team should be standalone. in fact individual sports like Athletics and swimming should be the prime priority over team sports such as football, basketball, etc which only gives one medal. That's why the FIFA World Cup is more prestigous than the Olympics.

    1. True..team sports only gives single medal sa event like SEAG,Asiad and Olympics...

mas magandang exposure and training experience kila Kanayama,Talaroc,Badelic and Selanga ang Sea games.

  4. At least the UAAP and other local players are given a chance to shine. Look at the brighter side.
