THE United Football League is letting PSG FC handle the case of booter Gerald Orcullo, who according to reports was arrested, along with two others, on Thursday for alleged drug pushing, although an official said the league's independent disciplinary committee may also look into the incident.
According to online reports on Saturday, the 30-year-old Orcullo, who also acts as a coach for University of the East, was nabbed, along with two others, in an undercover buy-bust operation in Sampaloc, Manila.
The story, which referenced the police report of Manila Police District (MPD) Station 4 chief superintendent James Afalla, also stated that “undetermined amount of marijuana leaves were seized from the suspects.”
The suspects are detained at MPD Station 4 in Sampaloc, the same precint where Far Eastern University American center Anthony Hargrove and reserve Adam Mohammed were held for three days until Friday night, also on a drug possession case.
UFL technical director Ritchie Gannaban told Spin.ph that the league will leave it to its independent disciplinary committee if its wants to look into the case.
“For now, it’s really the club who has to discipline the player. But for a serious offense like this, the disciplinary committee can also look into it,” Gannaban said during halftime of the Division 1 game between Nomads and Pachanga-Diliman on Saturday night.
Gannaban added the UFL has no specific rules on doping control yet, but is hoping the league would seriously consider setting them.
“It’s unfortunate, but as a community, it’s (drug case) just a minority. As far as the UFL is concerned, in fact, even international matches here in the Philippines, wala rin tayong doping control eh. But I think that is something that we should look into, that we should apply in the future.”
“But for now, we really don’t have the facilities yet. But it is something the UFL should look into, especially with the influx of foreign players and other players, hindi mawawala yan eh.”
“There is always that stigma of drugs in sports,” added Gannaban.

Sorry to say this, but too many addicts in the Philippines, and im not surprised if there are more than a handful of players who are abusing drugs in the UFL. And nothing will happen unless the UFL and the PFF will do something about it.
ReplyDeleteIt also seems like the UFL is taking the easy route with this issue by saying that PSG FC will handle this. Which is really a shame.
