A SHORTHANDED Kaya side surrendered a late lead as it settled to a 2-2 draw against PSG on Thursday night at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig on the last playdate of the United Football League before heading into the Holy Week break.
Without six players, including Azkals OJ Porteria and Chris Greatwich, the 2012 League runners-up turned to former national team players Anton del Rosario and Nate Burkeyfor the goals in erasing an early deficit and building their own lead.
But their efforts went for naught as Emmanuel Mbata scored the equalizer and completed a brace for PSG, enough to gain for the squad a point that moved them to seventh place.
Kaya moved to a tie with the day’s early winner, Pachanga-Diliman, in fifth place with nine points in seven games.
“I think with this draw, it feels like a loss,” said Burkey, who followed up Del Rosario’s tying goal in first-half stoppage time with a strike three minutes into the second half.
But Mbata, who opened the scoring 19 minutes into the game, found the back of the net anew in the 78th minute that proved enough to force the stalemate.
“We gave away our first goal, but we came back so I thought it was a delightful game,” Mbata said. “Looking at our standing, it shows that we are improving. It shows we have the quality to survive the Division.”
