Kaya faces Army in first game under Aussie boss

By Karlo Sacamos

KAYA FC hopes to begin its climb to the top half of the leaderboard with the arrival of new manager David Perkovic as it faces Philippine Army on Tuesday night in the United Football League at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig.

Kaya has managed to hold on to a place in the middle of the pack without an official head coach after the abrupt departure of Spanish-Uruguayan manager Maor Rozen last month.

Now with Perkovic, an Australian who holds an Asian Football Confederation license, Kaya hopes to move up from sixth place after getting just five points in five games.

Still far from the form that made it the 2012 League runner-up, Kaya showed flashes of its old form when it forced the usually high-scoring Loyola Meralco to a 1-1 draw last Tuesday.

The squad is hoping to build on that result in their 5:15 p.m. match against the Troopers, who are now on the scoreboard with a point to show in five games after salvaging a 1-1 draw against Green Archers United last Saturday.

Loyola Meralco targets at least a share of second place with Stallion-Sta. Lucia when it takes on fourth-running Nomads at 7:30 p.m.

The Sparks, still expected to be without injured leading scorer Freddy Gonzalez, are pinning their hopes on Phil Younghusband and Mark Hartmann as they try to increase their point total to 15 points.
