    1. Total ignorance on your part, as Pilipinas Azkals Futbol is the Philippine MNFT, just like Gilas Pilipinas is the Philippine MNBT. Since the idea came in mid-2000, it have been its battle cry as being under-dogs (because originally they use to call us the whipping boys of ASEAN football). When we started to rise in the World rankings, the moniker was not replace because the original & loyal fans of Philippine football(not a casual fan like u) and the national players have embrace the nickname already, there for it can no longer be replace.

    2. O Sol Nascente(Timor-Leste) & The Lions of Singapore has no other logo besides there federation logo or there own Flag, unlike the Azkals, the War Elephants ช้างศึก (Changsuek) of Thailand, Tim Garuda or Merah Putih of Indonesia, Harimau Malaya(Malayan Tigers), Rồng Vàng (The Golden Dragons) of Vietnam, etc. And there are stories behind each of those nicknames, some uses animal nicknames, others by colors, others from something of historic significance. The story behind the word azkals is dual. 1)The word askal is derived from asong kalye or "street dog", in which survival story(along with the pusang gala) reflects the society the filipinos are living, surviving each and everyday, which make it a very relevant nickname. 2) The name was coined when an online Philippine football community proposed the nickname Calle Azul (Spanish for Streets of Blue, referring to the color of their kit) which was modified to Azul Calle, shortened to AzCal, and finally became Azkal. Each Nat'l football has its own, because its a global trend in World football its not Club football(stupid!). The local press used to call the team as the "RP Booters" or the "RP XI". Brazil "Canarinho" ("Little Canary"), Mexico "El Tri", Cameroon "Les Lions Indomptables" ("The Indomitable Lions"), Croatia "Vatreni" ("The Blazers"), Spain "La Furia Roja" ("The Red Fury"), Netherlands "Clockwork Orange", Chile "La Roja" ("The Red One"), Australia "Socceroos", Colombia "Los Cafeteros" ("The Coffee Growers"), Greece "Piratiko" ("The Pirate Ship"), Ivory Coast "Les Elephants" ("The Elephants"), Japan "Blue Samurai", Uruguay “La Celeste" ("The Sky Blue One"), Costa Rica “Los Ticos”, England “Three Lions”, Italy "Gli Azzuri" (“The Blues”), Switzerland "The Schweizer Nati" ("The Swiss National Team"), Ecuador “La Tri”, France "Les Bleus" (“The Blues”), Honduras "Los Catrachos", Argentina "La Albicelestes" (“The White and Sky Blue”), Bosnia and Herzegovina "Zmajevi" ("Dragons"), Iran “Team Melli", Nigeria “Super Eagles", Germany “Nationalmannschaft" ("National Team"), Portugal “Selecção das Quinas" ("Team of the Five"), Ghana “Black Stars”, United States “The Yanks", Belgium “Red Devils”, Algeria “Les Fennecs" ("The Desert Foxes"), Russia "Sbornaya" ("National Team"), South Korea "Taeguk" ("Warriors"), etc. those where the monickers of World Cup teams.

    3. Pretty sure this guy knows this. Just found the nickname tacky.

The Azkals brand whether you like it or not has gained traction so ESPN decided to use it for recognizability.

    4. They should use the Philippine flag as this is an international event. Imagine if The Philippines makes it to the World Cup (which we wont) would you rather see the Philippine flag displayed and not the Azkals logo?

    5. I laugh at the comment about not being able to change the nickname!! You only say that because you don't want to!! There is a difference!! Also the fact that you and many others find the 'azkals' nickname amusing just shows the cheapness of many Filipinos!!

Trying to give the national team a nickname of 'callle azul' is stupid enough and then what's even worse is coming up with 'azkals' from that! And then using the logic of "because there is no love and support for the sport and the national team, therefore azkals". FUCKING RETARDED to say the least!! Only in the Philippines will you get that type of idiocy!! You people must be really proud of yourselves huh?!?

Nickname is tacky to put it politely! What's even more tacky is that logo!!

    6. I think it might have been a marketing decision to use that logo and in my opinion it is not working. Use the logo and nickname only to refer to the team when discussing it on Facebook and public forums. But in TV coverage just keep it simple - use our flag and refer to the team as The Philippines not Philippine Azkals.

    7. Anonymous17 November 2018 at 15:19 you always find ways to make mockery out of this small haven for the Filipino Football fans. I don't want to??? Is the monicker Azkals my idea?? Or do i have the power to change it?? Your talking to me like your ready for a fight, and your facing the head of the NSA or the president of the FA!!! Unfortunately im not, nor did i say that or have the power to change what you hate or do not like... I don't know your motivation or where you are heading, but i certainly don't care about your opinion... your just noisy chicken that is only one in a hundred million...

    8. ^^Where did I say that it was your duty to change it?! Part of my point is that people like you are part of the problem! You go around with this attitude of "well, it's been there for some time now therefore you can't change it". Now that is BS to say the least!

You use that as an excuse to not create change or at least try to create change. Typical Filipino mentality! It's embarrassing and frustrating to say the least.

It also goes in to another point, which is so many of you love to settle for mediocrity. Even if deep down you were for changing it, you'd rather sit around and say and do nothing and then spout excuses like "I don't have the power to change it". As an individual, of course you don't. But as a collective, then of course it can done. But again, you and other similar minded people would just take it up the ass and accept it. Pathetic!!

    9. Anonymous17 November 2018 at 16:29 i feel sleepy reading your lecturing.. so where the problem now heck!! Talking to me like you know who i am or what i think!!! so what is it about the change you are talking??? Let me hear it from since you have been doing all this talking stuff like you know everything. How do we change Philippine Football for the better??? Let us hear it from you!!!

    10. You getting sleepy?! Well I think Im getting dumber reading your poor English!!

You wanna know the problem?! Its your shit and lazy attitude!! Making pathetic excuses to not make and want any changes!

You go around accepting everything, in this case its the "street dogs" monicker/brand as if its ok because "its already there". Thats the problem!! Can you even comprehend that? Judging by your responses, probably not!

You want an idea for change? For starters a better monicker thus a better image for the national team since this is what we've been getting at! "Street dogs" along with that shit logo isnt cutting it thats for sure!!

    11. Anonymous17 November 2018 at 16:48 a better monicker will surely make us Suzuki Cup champ & lead us to the WC, something like "Pilipinas Donut" maybe cause it sound fucking delicious..

That comment just shows how fucking retarded you and most Filipinos are! It's embarrassing to have to say that you're my countrymen! You must so proud huh?!

  3. chooks to go Pilipinas *sarcasm. haha. tacky as chooks to go, I agree 100%, like chooks to go, you can't just rename it with kenny rogers or whatever were majority of Filipinos are already familiar with the brand/monicker.

    1. This is exactly the type of bullshit that I'm referring to!! "Filipinos are already familiar with it" aka "it's been there for some time" therefore you can't change it!! Typical Filipino mentality!! What a load of shit!!

That's your way of saying that you'd rather not change it. Of course it can be changed. The real question is, do you actually want to change it or you just gonna take it up the ass and accept it because "majority of Filipinos are already familiar with it"?

Look at Dunkin Donuts... they recently just rebranding to simply "Dunkin'". With you typical BS logic, then you're saying that Dunkin Donuts couldn't change it. Yet they did, for better or for worse. The same can be done with this idiotic "azkals". It's dated and has no relevance! You don't need some retarded monicker like "azkals" just to say the team are supposed underdogs or whatever else. It's cheap and lousy!

    2. Then go ahead do the Ultras Indonesia thing, boycott the Azkals and sabotage the Nat'l team. If there are many out there who believe what you believe, maybe you will succeed.. Your in the wrong office dude, were just ordinary team pilipinas supporters!!! Whether it is the Pilipinas Azkals Futbol that are playing, or Gilas Pilipinas, Perlas Pilipinas, Amihan Pilipinas, Bagwis Pilipinas, Philippine Aguilas, Philippine Volcanoes we support with all our heart. If you have some issues, then complain to the right office. Your just disrupting any potential healthy discussion here that is based solely of Football.

    3. You dont think Im a supporter?! More of a supporter than you are because I actually want better for the national team!! Go around with "street dogs" isnt anywhere good enough!! But clearly you and a majority are too blind and stupid to see it!

Just for your info, the issue of "street dogs/azkals" not being good enough should be a healthy discussion but you and a the majority brush it under the rug using the excuse that "its been there for a long time therefore it cant be changed".

    4. rebranding of dunkin donuts based on the first name basis, typical of American culture & still the core we know w/c is "Dunkin" remains. what is your basis of renaming the azkals? hhhmm. you hate the sound of it, tacky? then let's rename malditas, gilas, volcano then. they all sound tacky to me.

    5. Anonymous17 November 2018 at 20:13 you sound more Ultras Indonesia to me lol!! anyway any idea about a new nickname?? cause you keep bringin that up & that donut thing.. Why not make it Pilipinas Dunkin Donuts then huh?? doesnt sound tacky enough to me, im getting hungry actually. . .

    6. @ Anonymous 17 November 2018 at 20:45

Now you're just taking cake! Who said you gotta rename everything! Fucking stupid!

What's my basis for wanting to give the national team a new nickname instead of azkals?!? The fact you have to ask that just shows your level of stupidity!!

It's not just the sound of it but what it also means and stands for as well as why it was suggested to begin with! You really think "street dogs" is "cool" or even appropriate?!

From trying to give the team a nickname of "calle azul" which is stupid in itself, it became "azkals". Then the reasoning for that became, "because the team are underdogs and there is no support or love for the team or the sport in general therefore street dogs/azkals".

If you can't see the level to lunacy in that then you yourself are fucking stupid to no end!

At least with other nicknames there's some proper background or at least some logic and meaning behind it like the national rugby teams for example. There is nothing significant or relevant when it comes to "azkals"!!

  4. Azkals lacked the pace in the second half especially when schrock went out. Their defense was exposed in the second half when the young and small timor leste used quick counter. And run rugged on our aging backline.

Well you sound like Ultra Tarantado! Bringing up Dunkin Donuts was just to point out that change can still happened even if something has been there for some time. But of course you wouldn't see that because you as I said are ultra tarantado!

As for a new nickname, as of this point I don't have one to suggest. But as said before, this should be done as a collective. You can't just sit there and accept stupidity just because there supposedly isn't anything else or it's already been there for some time! That's lazy and cheap!!
