Title contenders Global FC and the Loyola Meralco Sparks clash in a crucial encounter in the United Football League on Tuesday at Emperador Stadium.
Global and Loyola tussle at 7:30 p.m. after the opening match between Green Archers United Globe and Pasargad FC at 5:15. Both matches will be aired live on AksyonTV.
Global and Loyola are in a heated race for the League crown as the final stretch of the season nears. Global is currently on top of the table with a 13-2-2 win-draw-loss record for 41 points.
The Sparks closely trail Global at second place, sporting a 12-3-3 card for 39 points.
“We’ll win. We have to win,” Loyola coach Vince Santos said. “We have to go for it. I don’t go to any match looking for less than a win.”
“There’s a lot at stake. We know what to do, we need to win that game. If we win that, we’ll go cruise control,” Global captain Jason De Jong said. “But we need to prepare for that really well.”
Loyola and Global split their first two encounters this season. The Sparks blanked Global, 4-nil, last January 14, while Global got back with a 3-2 win last March 8.
In the first match, Green Archers aim to move up in the team standings against cellar-dweller Pasargad.
Green Archers sit at sixth place with a 6-5-7 slate for 23 points, while Pasargad hopes to end its 11-match winless skid to improve its 1-3-14 record and stay away from relegation.
