Philippine football team arrives in Cebu

THE Philippine National Football Team arrived yesterday morning for their Cebu visit where they are set to have a series of team- building activities, and trainings.

Head Coach Hans Michael Weiss led the team together with the coaching staff and players, who just came from Iloilo after they played a practice game and drew with a Korean-led Central Philippines University squad, 1-0.

Among the players who arrived yesterday were team captain Aly Borromeo, Ian Araneta, Chieffy Caligdong, Ed Sacapaño and Cebuano Paolo Pascual. Some of the new recruits also came with the team.

Goal Keeper Neil Etheridge and Anton Del Rosario will arrive today to join the team in a commercial shoot, while Philipp and James Younghusband and Simon Greatwich and Jason Sabio will arrive later this week.

The Azkals will hold clinics for kids this Saturday and will also grace the awarding ceremony of the 11th Interclub Football Cup on Sunday.

Coach Weiss said the lineup for the Philippine team that will face Sri Lanka in the first round match of the World Cup Qualifiers will be released either by the end of the week or in the first week of June.

Weiss is expected to cut the training pool to 23 and those who make it will be flying to Germany for a two-week camp.

Among those hoping to join the squad is the comebacking Chad Gould, who’s suffering from an infected wound. However, Weiss said he will have to check once Gould has fully recovered if the striker is fit to play.
