Fil-Iranian midfield ace Omid Nazari willing to play for Azkals if given chance

By Karlo Sacamos
OMID Nazari wasted little time in showing his quality in Global FC’s 7-0 demolition of Pasargad in its United Football League Cup opener on Saturday night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
And the Filipino-Iranian Sweden-born standout is also quick to embrace the Azkals responsibility if ever he gets a call-up from national coach Thomas Dooley.
One thing that’s preventing Nazari is that he has already represented Iran in the senior level.
Even so, the 24-year-old Swedish League veteran is still eligible to switch allegiance since the matches he played in were not Fifa sanctioned.
“I’m willing to think about (making the switch),” Nazari said after the match against Pasargad. “Everyone wants to play big international games, so we’ll see.”
The 6-foot attacking midfielder immediately made an impact, assisting on Hikaru Minegish’s goal 15 minutes in before getting on the score sheet himself with a mid-range conversion off Misagh Bahadoran in the 39th minute.
He ended up with a hat-trick in his debut.
“Omid gives us a little extra dimension in that role we’ve asked him to play, so now it’s a case of making sure he can do that for ninety minutes,” Global coach Leigh Manson said.
“There’s no question his understanding and knowledge of the game is very high and his attitude in training and what we can show some of the younger boys,” he added.
The national team has seen an influx of new talent last year, but it definitely won’t hurt to have Nazari on board as well.
But for now, his focus is on Global.
“It’s a challenge for me. I have to adapt,” Nazari said. “But it’s a good start for me, so I feel confident now. I’ll keep training hard and do my best.”

Oligarchic talaga ang Metro Manila kaya Federalism is the answer for this.

    1. To be fair, the media is the one who is querying Filipino-foreigners regarding their possible stint with the national team, like one player who was touted as "Filipino Neymar".

There is really the problem regarding the marketing indeed. The PFF and UFL website lack statistics and other info football enthusiasts find. No position, historical fixtures. Even the lastest scores of the cup are not in the UFL website. This blog is better than the UFL website.

While I am a fan of some of the Filipino foreigners like Schrock, Muller, News especially in social media tend to be "showbizy" about fil-foreigners. Not much love for talented locals like Aguinaldo and Sato (although technically with foreign blood but he is not of a European heritage like the other more followed Fil-fors). If not for this blog, I won't know that he attempted to join a J-League 2 club.

The marketing is alienating potential new fans of football. News articles on the fixtures should at least include the goalscorers and on what minute they scored but this is not always followed.

The PFF could have also posted basics on football on its website. The rules of football is easy to understand except maybe the off-side rule.

Another is the attitude towards expressive fans, the ban against flags, drums, during the games of the azkals. They say its the commissioners's decision but they could coordinate days prior to the match to allow it. This a turn off to those who want to chant to the national team.
