Global FC has turned to brothers Ray and Michael Jonsson to beef up the squad that will defend the United Football League title and also bid for a place in the knockout stage of the AFC Cup.
Ray, the older of the brothers at 36, already made his competitive debut last Saturday in the 1-1 draw with Green Archers United.
Having played almost his entire career at Iceland, Ray said the game in the Philippines has gotten quicker and more physical.
"The players tend to be more quicker, more physical and more tactical here (in the Philippines)," said Jonsson.
With brother Michael also moving to Global, Jonsson also relishes the opportunity to share the pitch with him. The Jonsson brothers have played for the same team years ago in Iceland.
"I always love playing with my brother," said Ray Jonsson. "He is just like me, (almost the) same position."
Ray was part of the Philippine Team that upset Vietnam in the 2010 Suzuki Cup - a win that propelled the popularity of the sport in the country.
Ray who spent his younger years in Cebu before his family moved to Iceland wants to make his mark in the domestic football scene.
"I'm really looking forward to it," said Jonsson. "It's good to play for Global."
