GLOBAL FC hopes to spread goals – and not love - on Valentine’s Day against Pachanga-Diliman as it bids to register in the win column of the United Football League at the Rizal Memorial Stadium.
Held to a measly goal in a stunning 1-1 draw against Green Archers United last week, the defending league champions try to regain their high-scoring form to get their title-retention campaign going on Saturday.
Global coach Leigh Manson, though, expressed little worry of his team’s slow start after the club even lost its opening game last season, a 4-0 shutout against Loyola Meralco.
“We are a point ahead this year compared to last year,” said the Scottish mentor, who is counting on an Azkals-loaded roster led by Misagh Bahadoran, Mark Hartmann, Daisuke Sato, and Patrick Deyto, among others.Manson, however, hopes his team avoids missed chances like the ones it had against the Archers.
A victory by Global, which averaged 3.5 goals in its first two wins against Pachanga last year, will hike its point total to four.
Pachanga, though, seeks to recover from a 1-0 loss to Stallion FC the last time.
Kickoff is at 8 p.m. in a matchup preceded by another Division 1 skirmish between the Stallions and Socceroo at 5:15 p.m.
The Stallions hope to duplicate their opening win against Socceroo, which lost to Loyola Meralco, 1-0, last Sunday, to gain the provisional lead in the 10-team standings.
