AT least four new players will join the Philippine Azkals national football team.
Philippine Football Federation president Mariano “Nonong” Araneta said this as the Azkals get ready to join the FIFA World Cup pre-qualifying tournaments later this month.
Araneta said the new players will be known within the month.
“Hopefully, we will have new players. There are at least four players coming. And we’re finalizing everything,” said Araneta.
Following the resignation of veteran player Chieffy Caligdong, football officials and the coaching staff are scrambling to form the team.
Araneta said a new squad will be unveiled by the time the Azkals meet South China FC in a friendly on Mar. 25.
The Azkals are slated to play in eight home-and-away games of the World Cup pre-qualifiers.
Four of the games will be in the Philippines.
Officials of the Philippine Football Federations are looking at the possibility of having the home game held at the new grass turf in Bocaue, Bulacan.
These home games are expected to give the Philippines a better chance of making it to the qualifying competitions of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
