MANILA, Philippines - Due to ‘logistical’ issues, the earlier announced home game of Global FC for the AFC Cup at the newly built Philippine Sports Stadium (PSS), will now be moved to the country’s national football stadium inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
According to the club’s chief executive Dan Palami, they opted to hold the first home game at the Rizal Memorial Football Stadium instead of the PSS because of time restrictions.
“The inspection could not be done on time because of the logistical requirements. We had to forgo the first game at the PSS. If the process was done earlier, I think we would have been able to get the permit to play in the PSS.”
The defending UFL champs are scheduled to play Hong Kong’s South China AA here in the country on February 25 for the continental club football tilt’s group stage.
Meanwhile, Palami revealed that he is still uneasy about their chances of emerging victorious in the tournament due to the slow start of Global’s campaign in the UFL.
“[I am] still worried because these are stronger teams that we have to face. We need to be more clinical on our finish to make sure that we don’t lose a lot of scoring opportunities. It’s a different level there.”
Aside from the match against South China, Global FC will be playing two more home games in the cup against Myanmar’s Yadanarbon FC and Malaysian club Pahang FA, venues of which are yet to be revealed.
