In what could be a prelude to a championship showdown, Ceres and Dynamic Builders had a scoreless draw Sunday afternoon to keep their 1-2 position in the North Football League at the Ayala Northpoint LRY pitch in Talisay City.
The draw allowed Ceres squad to remain ahead in the team standings with a 7-1-1 win-loss-draw card, while Dynamic trails at No. with six wins, two losses and a draw.
In the second match, Trimaxi booters dealt Real Negrense its ninth loss in the tournament, with a dominating 3-0 performance.
With five wins, two losses, and two draws, Trimaxi poses a threat to both Ceres and Dynamic’s championship bid as competition is expected to intensify as the November 25 start of the semifinals looms.
Also eyeing a ticket to the NFL finals is the Silver Dragon squad, who demonstrated its winning form Sunday afternoon against Las Buenas FC.
Silver Dragon edged LBFC, 3-2, in a thriller that saw Las Buenas’ Marson Dela Torre scoring the first goal in the 48th minute after both teams failed to score in the first 45 minutes of the match.
Breaking away from the LBFC defenders, Raymund Goyon tied the score at 1-1 in the 56th minute and Dequilla made it 2-1 five minutes later.
Las Buenas tried to counter and even the score but Silver Dragon tightened their defense and managed to secure some breathing space in the 72nd minute as Philip Rebecca scored for the team’s third goal.
Racing against time, R. Pallerna booted in Las Buenas’ second goal in the 74th minute but further effort to get in another one and force a draw proved to be futile as Silver Dragon got away with a 3-2 win.
Silver Dragon is now perched at the No. 4 spot in the team standings with four wins, four losses, and a draw while LBFC slipped to the fifth spot with a 2-5-1 card.*NAB
