Bacolod beats Cebu

CERES - Bacolod took advantage of a defensive miscue in the 72nd minute to beat
Cebu Queen City United,
1-0, in the PFF Smart Club national championships Visayas qualifiers in San Carlos City yesterday.
Miguel Gonzales’s clearance in the 72nd minute had a bad bounce, allowing a Bacolod
player to beat keeper Charles Villarta in a one-on-one.
“This is a very good Cebu team, we had more chances, and possessions in the second half only to
surrender a goal on a defensive miscue,” said CQCU Manager Stanley Villacin.
Although both teams are already assured of the two seats in the round of 16, both played to win
as it revived a classic rivalry between these Visayan teams.
Bacolod got the top spot with six points, while Cebu is second with three.
Leyte, which lost both games, is eliminated.
The game was evenly matched in the first half even if the Ceres team
had six Korean players who were formerly from Central Philippine University in
Iloilo and played for Stallions FC.
