I know that rankings do not necessarily mean anything, but this makes us the highest ranking team in our to-be Challenge Cup qualifying group, now that Myanmar is no longer 149!
ReplyDeleteI would say rankings are important to identify where your football program is worldwide. You can see how far ahead Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia are against us but they couldnt beat us convincingly so it would seem their ranking is flattering. Especially since Thailand never made the semi finals even with a former English Premier League manager calling the shots . I believe it is competitions like the Suzuki Cup, Sea Games and Asian Games that can truly gauge how strong the national teams are. However in football development, Myanmar and Laos have decent leagues in place which will always be a huge advantage in terms of player development and sourcing. So it really is difficult to set up a true ranking system.
ReplyDelete"...it would seem their ranking is flattering."
ReplyDeleteAnd how convenient is that! You only base it from one tournament. Once again hype! Maybe to a certain extent you might be right, but it's more that the ranking of the Philippines that flatters to deceive.
^^^
ReplyDeleteLet me ask you...
What satisfaction do you get in pointing out the so-called hype that the Azkals are receiving?
Don't claim to be helping Philippine football or sports in general because you're not!
^^^
ReplyDeleteAnd you think you are?? Then let me ask you, what YOU have done (that is of significance) to help Philippine football??
I also point out the hype because people keep bringing up the 2010 Suzuki Cup in every other discussion even though it either isn't relevant or it's minimally relevant. Just as Jay has done above saying that some other SEA nations' rankings are flattering because of their poor showing in the Suzuki Cup against the Philippines. He's clearly still drowned in the hype. And that isn't healthy.
actually Philippine football team is better than the other country who ranks higher than us...
ReplyDeletewait for the AZKALS to go on top slowly but surely.. more practice and we can prove that we are strong..
