Cebu Football : B-Meg to join Thirsty Cup

By Mike Limpag

B-MEG will field two teams in the Thirsty Football Cup which kicks off tomorrow at the Cebu City Sports Center.

Inspired by the success of the Philippine Azkals and the growing popularity of football in the country, B-Meg will field men’s open and a 19-Under teams in the three-day football festival.

Aside from joining the Thirsty Cup, B-Meg is also committed to intensify its support to football by holding clinics, tournaments and the formation of its own team that will carry its corporate name to various competitions in the country.

“The Azkals’ popularity inspires us to form a team of neophyte players. Like the Azkals, the B-Meg team is an underdog but is determined to make history in the sports,” said B-Meg Vis-Min area sales manager Jojo Lindo said in a press release.

The B-Meg team is composed of players from Bohol, San Carlos City and Cebu and will be coached by University of the Visayas head coach Eddie Buot and managed by Alvin R. Mangubat.

For this year’s edition of the Thirsty Cup, Cebu City’s longest-running football festival, 242 teams have signed up.

The premier Men’s Open attracted the largest entries with 60 teams, with football powerhouse Don Bosco Alumni fielding four squads.

The Ladies Open also attracted 16 entries, including out-of-town entries Foundation University, Norfa and Xavier University.

In the age group divisions, the Boys 12 got the most entries with 23, while the Boys 17 division got 22. The Players 8 and 10 division also have 19 and 22 entries, respectively. (PR)
