Teams eyeing a stint in the stellar cast of the 2011 edition of the Pine Cup Football tournaments are expected to increase amidst reports the national football team will train here later this year.
Squads from as far as Metro Manila and even Tugegarao are set to join the tournament tentatively scheduled for April 14 to 17 at the Melvin Jones football grounds.
Some 35 teams are expected to suit up in the competition being hatched by the Baguio United Football Club.
Based on reports, the Azkals will proceed to the Summer Capital to hike up their training after its game against Mongolia in Bacolod for the second game of their Asian Football Cup.
Organizers of this year's Pine Cup lauded the Azkals for choosing Baguio as one of their training camps because of the temperature and lesser distraction.
Registration for the Pine cup is now ongoing. Registration fee for the men's open and 18 under will be at P2,500 while other age group competitions will be P1,000.
Divisions in the tourney are as follows: boys 21 and under; boys 17 and under; boys and girls 14 and under; boys 11 and under; mixed nine and under; and mixed seven and under.
Also in the competition will be teams from the men's and ladies' open division.
Teams from Tarlac, Pangasinan, Laguna, and La Union suited up last year for the men's open division and boys 21 under category.
The tournament hopes to bring in more competitive level of football not only in the city but all over the country.
Interested teams who wish to join the tournament may send an e-mail to baguiounited@gmail.com for invitation packet.
