THE struggling Seagull Football Club (FC) rose to life after beating the University of the Philippines (UP) Mindanao, 3-1, in the resumption of the DFA Women's Cup 2009 at the Tionko Football Grounds on Saturday afternoon.
UP-Min striker Ellen Cuizon scored the first goal in the eighth minute, but Seagull's Vanessa Leonar hit in the 28th to force a 1-1 deadlock.
Joy Rivera and Karen Paulino scored a goal each--in the 40th and 42nd, respectively, to lift Seagull only to its second win after six outings.
Seagull, having been at the bottom of the team standings for awhile, grabbed the fourth position while UP Mindanao dropped to the fifth spot with a one-win and four-loss card in the bootfest organized by the Davao Football Association (DFA).
Lady Knights led the league with a clean five-win, no-draw and no-loss record while Medvil (3-0-2) in second place and Philippine Women's College (PWC) (2-0-3) is in third spot.
The double elimination format meet will resume this weekend. (MLSA)
